Kellyanne Conway rules Chuck Todd!

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2016

Sunday, bloody Sunday:
We knew Kellyanne Fitzpatrick the tiniest tad back in the 1990s.

Today she's Kellyanne Conway. Yesterday, she massacred Chuck Todd on Meet the Press.

Based on clips from other shows, it seems it was one of the bloodiest Sundays, journalism-wise, since the advent of the Sunday shows back at the dawn of time. But at any rate, when Kellyanne met Chuck, the result was unvarnished slaughter.

We'll plan to discuss the encounter tomorrow. A generous person might want to say that our seven- and eight-figure corporate broadcasters have never dealt with this level of dissembling and misdirection before and for that reason haven't developed the requisite skills. But journalistic culture took a very deep dive on that particular program.

By the way:

In this piece for The Atlantic, Peter Beinart arrives at the scene of the crime some sixteen to twenty years late. The modus operandi for careerists seems rather clear in his piece:

Say nothing about the New York Times—until such time as you have something good to say.

  1. She ate Maher for lunch too. She is an effective liar, if you are not ready for her.

    1. I don't think she did that well, but what is this thing Maher has for conservative blondes?

To be an effective liar, people must believe the lies. I doubt anyone watching Maher's show believed anything she said.

She has demonstrated that she will say anything for her client, and that means nothing she says will be believed again (assuming she ever had any integrity).

  2. Those who favor women's advancement should be pleased that a woman is such an effective spokesperson. Reportedly, as Trump's campaign manager, she's the one who got him to tone it down and look (more) Presidential.

    1. Not surprising that an inveterate liar like David would characterize Conway's serial lie distribution on behalf of Trump to be advancing the cause of women. As for looking more presidential, that is intentional deception to the nth degree. Trump is still the same fraud he always was, but now this troll can shill for him even while admitting that Trump's current persona is fake.

    2. She is not an effective spokesperson, She is an effective bullshit artist. Are you voting for Trump, David?

    3. Everyone see what David the Troll did here?

Classis tactic of the alt-right/movement conservative community.

Take a positive issue that Democrats stand for, equal rights/equal pay for women, and flip it around to use against Democrats. this is a tried and true disingenuous tactic. DinC was probably snickering to himself when he wrote that. By his logic Phyllis Schlafly should also be admired by progressives since she's was a very high profile woman.

He comes to a progressive blog to be a troll provocateur. Nothing more.

Now he's outed himself as an alt-right racist homophobe also.

    4. Hillary pointed out two "baskets" of Trump supporters, Dave.

In one basket was racist, sexist homophomes. In the other were the people "left behind" by the new global economy, and they are angry about it.

She said you can't change the mind of a racist, sexist homophobe, but we MUST do something about the people left behind to give them opportunity again.

Now if you choose to identify with the racist, sexist homophobes, David, don't blame Hillary.

    5. 10:22 -- I've heard the term "alt-right", but I'm unfamiliar with anything about them. Could you provide links to some of these awful sites?
      Thanks

    7. "Hillary steeled my will to vote for Trump when she called me a racist sexist homophobe, [sic] irredemiably deplorable."

Are you completely incapable of the least little bit of honesty? Even a cursory review of this blog's comment archives establish that you have been pimping for Trump long before Hillary described you and your ilk to a T.

  4. Conway: The earth is flat.

Todd: No, it has been proven beyond any doubt that the earth is round.

Conway: No it's not. It's flat. Because I say so.

Somerby: Kellyanne Conway rules Chuck Todd!

    1. You left out Todd's reply.

      Todd: OK, let's move on...

    2. No, Todd's reply was to put on screen a long list of issues that Trump has done an absolute 180 on over the past few months. As a matter of fact, several flip-flops both ways depending on who he is trying to pander to that day.

And when asked to explain why the flip-flops, she replied "No he hasn't."

It's like that old Monty Python sketch about the guy who comes in for an argument, and all he gets is contradiction.

How do you argue with a person who won't concede a single objective truth?

You let them talk, and you trust the people watching aren't as dumb as Somerby.

  5. By the way, Bob. Still look like a "legitimate traffic study" to you?

    1. Easy to decide what something is when you have actual evidence at hand. Somerby just cautioned people not to jump to conclusions, especially Maddow who was saying things she had no evidence for.

    2. Right. There was no evidence four months after the event, and two months after the Port Authority's top people testified under oath that it wasn't a "legitimate traffic study" and after the smoking gun e-mail to figger out that it wasn't a "legitimate traffic study."

Glad you brought up Maddow, because that was all this was about for Somerby. Go back and read the things he was writing about her -- as late as January, when anybody with a lick of sense could see she was onto something.

      Delete
    3. No need to rehash this. At the point when Maddow attacked and Somerby cautioned, there was not definitive evidence about
Christie's involvement as there is now. Somerby's point was not to defend Christie but to point out that reporters aren't lynch mobs. That remains a valid point, no matter what Christie knew when. Maddow didn't know.

  6. You can argue someone to the point where they stop talking, especially if you yell and talk over them, but that doesn't mean you have convinced them or changed their mind.

Many people are saying they don't listen to cable any more because too many people are talking over each other and you cannot hear anyone clearly so it is just annoying noise. So they just turn off the station. Conservatives may believe they have accomplished something this way but they haven't changed anyone's thinking, much less their vote.

Maybe they think that behaving like Trump will make them appear strong and cause people to go their way. To many of us though, it just looks like bullying. Maher, when he let Conway have her way (with his sardonic smile), didn't have to comment on her behavior. It was obvious and I believe it made her look foolish and uncivil. Trump's people will no doubt think she did great because she was louder and her voice was the last echo in the room. No one else will be convinced by what she said.

  7. The captchas are using machine learning to train AI to recognize objects. We are providing the free labor to give the algorithm feedback about its guesses. I wish humans were moderating here instead of having to go through the annoying quiz at the end of each comment. I resent being used in someone's project this way.

  10. This is the most wonderful thing i have ever experienced. I visited a forum here on the internet on the 17 APRIL 2016, and i saw a marvelous testimony of Tracie Aldana from United States on the forum about the good works DR OSEMU. I never believed it, because have never heard anything about such miracle before. No body would have been able to convince me about it not until DR OSEMU did a marvelous work for me that restored my marriage of 4 years by getting back my divorced wife just as i read on the internet. Am Brooklyn Gray from USA. I was truly shocked when my wife knelt down pleading for forgiveness to accept her back. I am really short of words to use to show my appreciation to DR OSEMU. For his a God sent to me and my entire family for divine restoration of marriage.
