...with what Compagno said: After two or three years, depending on where you start to count, The Surgical Wounds Which Would Not Heal have suddenly started healing.
That has the look of good news. On the other hand, today's medical mission went on way too long, robbing us of the chance to continue yesterday's offering.
Yesterday, when we left off, the gang at The Five were completely sure that no one has anything to worry about, Medicaid coverage-wise.
According to Perino, Gutfeld and (Johnny Joey) Jones, only two groups could lose their coverage under terms of the GOP megabill. As you may recall, Gutfeld and Perino started the messaging like this:
GUTFELD (7/2/25): [The Democrats] are the human version of hysterical tweets...They say, "Oh my God, you're cutting Medicaid! You're throwing, you're throwing the poor and needy"—
No, no, no! These are young, able-bodied people, and illegals. You know, this isn't a free buffet for people who could afford to pay for it. So enough with that.
[...]
PERINO: So on the health car front, Joey—every time a Democrat goes on TV, they add two to three million more to how many people are going to lose their health care. It's 7.8 million people that would be required to do these work requirements, and it's illegal immigrants.
Everybody seemed to agree about those hysterical Democrats. Young slackers might lose their Medicaid coverage—young slackers, plus illegal immigrants.
As we showed you yesterday, Perino, Gutfeld and Jones all completely agreed. And then, it was time for Emily Compagno to speak.
Tomorrow morning, we'll start by showing you what she said—and we'll continue to float this question:
With respect to this vital topic, Red Americans hear one thing, we Blues hear something different. The messaging is totally different:
How do you know what's right?
Trump is wrong.
ReplyDeleteHooray!
ReplyDeleteCecelia, I’m so glad to hear from you.

ReplyDelete"How can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won’t release the Epstein files?” Musk posted Tuesday afternoon."
Well the folks transponding the serial liars lies would not be the ones I trust. But today the Felon seemed to turn a corner on his perpetual lying. His tariff squeals are up and front market manipulation. No longer any doubt, it is all about insider trading. The cult thinks they are invited in the club. No, not you, you worthless little working stiffs.
ReplyDeleteThe right talks about Medicaid as if the beneficiaries were receiving checks in the mail. The way Medicaid works is that hospitals and other medical providers are reimbursed for the services they provide for patients on Medicaid. The money goes to the hospitals and medical providers, not the patients. That means that no young able bodied person sitting in their parents' basement is going to be receiving money to allow them to sit around.
ReplyDeleteSomerby has complained today about his "medical mission" even though he seems to be healing from wounds. He says it took way too much time. When a Medicaid patients receives services, they too have to go to a clinic or office or hospital and sit around waiting to receive care. Most people find that boring or painful depending on what is wrong with them. No one thinks it is fun. So they spend time and suffer in order to receive treatment that will restore them to normal health. That is what they get when they receive Medicaid. Not money.
If you take Medicaid funding away, what happens in that hospitals must still provide services but they receive no reimbursement. That makes it harder for hospitals and doctors and clinics to stay open for all. When hospitals must close, those who would use them must travel further, which can be life-threatening in an emergency but is a major inconvenience for all, including paying clients. It benefits no one when hospitals close or doctors move away.
Whoever is telling Republicans that young men and immigrants are sitting around basements living off Medicaid is lying and creating a bad situation for all, including Republicans, because we all have health needs that cannot necessarily be predicted in emergencies. Trump and Leavitt and others are telling voters lies in order to divert that Medicaid and Medicare money to other priorities, not because it is a good idea to weaken health care services, especially in rural areas. They are committing a fraud upon the public.
Somerby used to talk about health care funding. He hasn't done that in a long time, since before Trump at least.
"How do you know what's right? "
ReplyDeleteIf Republicans are saying it, it is almost certainly wrong.
If Democrats are saying it, it is most likely right, especially if they are quoting experts, as they frequently do.
This isn't rocket science.
What happens when people lose their health care:
ReplyDelete1. They get sick and can't get care so they die.
2. They become disabled and cannot work so they become a burden on others, family or public services.
3. They are removed from the work force so that has a negative impact on the economy, especially in areas where there are labor shortages.
4. Whatever they have is contagious, so it infects other people and we have a lot more people to treat.
5. They cannot care for their kids or other dependents, so those people suffer to, or become dependent on public services instead of their former breadwinner.
6. If they are detained, then their health care must be provided by the govt anyway, under worse and more expensive conditions.
Usually, providing health care is cheaper than not providing it, both to the individual but especially to wider society. That makes this cut a false economy.
The reality is that these aren't cuts for eliminating waste etc., but ways to find the money to reduce taxes on the rich, so greedy wealthy people can keep more of their cash. Is that a boon to society? No, it is just another drain on the common good and rich people especially don't need to feed at the public trough like that. They need to pay their fair share, not foist it off onto other taxpayers.
Even cheaper than providing health care to illegal immigrants is not having them in the country at all, which is what our law requires.
DeleteDo you understand that a tourist who overstays a visa is an illegal immigrant? Are you suggesting we bar all tourists? Most illegals arrive here by plane.
DeleteI am suggesting that we not give free medical care to tourists who overstay their visa. One problem with giving illegal immigrants Medicaid is that the practice encourages illegal immigration. That causes all kinds of problems, including the raids in MacArthur Park. Things are a lot better if people don't come into the country illegally in the first place.
DeleteMedicaid is not free medical care. Hospitals are required to treat emergencies regardless of ability to pay. Medicaid reimburses that. Illegals are not eligible for Medicaid.
DeleteIf you want people to stay in their countries go back and fund USAID again. People migrate because they are desperate.
Why do you keep repeating lies about illegals receiving Medicaid?
I listed the criteria for Medicaid eligibility. Read them.
Delete@11:57 - As you say, many illegal immigrants are desperate. But USAID cannot solve that problem. It could only help a relatively tiny number of people. There are many reasons why people are desperate. They may be starving. Or they may live under a tyrannical government. Or cartels in their area murder people with impunity. Etc. USAID couldn't possibly solve all these problems.
DeleteIn fact, we have evidence that USAID doesn't reduce illegal immigration. During the Biden Administration USAID hadn't been cut, but illegal immigration spiked up. Many millions of immigrants came to the US. OTOH Trump cut or eliminated foreign aid and illegal immigration slowed to a trickle.
Hospitals that accept Medicare reimbursement are required to treat all who enter their ERs, irrespective of insurance coverage, as per law written under Reagan. It is theoretically possible , and I know of one hospital system that adopted this policy, for a hospital to bill Medicare patients directly, and not be on par with Medicare. As much as private insurers deserve to be criticized, if hospitals relied exclusively on Medicare and Medicaid for their income, they would go out of business. It is the margins they make on the private side that keep them afloat.
DeleteAs much as the Republicans would like to take a stand against the individuals they think are bilking the system, it is fact that the majority of fraud perpetrated under the auspices of these programs is by providers and third parties. Ask Rick Scott. No one goes after the profitable businesses whose employees are Medicaid and food stamp beneficiaries. Wal-Mart and McDonald are two prime examples. They are the two largest employers of Medicaid recipients. Ask why taxpayers are fronting the healthcare of individuals employed by these highly profitable large businesses. The packet given to new Wal-Mart employees contains information on how to enroll in Medicaid and food stamp programs. The public healthcare subsidy of employees for large profitable companies is a joke that is foisted upon taxpayers out every single day.
12:20. Who argued that USAID had a role in preventing illegal immigration? Look, we get it that you don't have a problem with US taxpayer billions going annually to Israel, a country with universal healthcare and free secondary education. But god forbid that life saving soft diplomacy be doled out to third world inhabitants. You don't like that any more than I, a taxpayer, like subsidizing the inhabitants of a first world country indiscriminately dropping 2,000 lb bombs on women and children and engaging in sniper killing of starving Palestinians at food distribution points.

Simple, Bob. If idiot-Democrats hate it, it's right.
This has been another installment of simple answers to simple questions.
