The rewards are too great in the modern press corps. For starters, such rewards attract the wrong people.

Once there, such people will do and/or say many things to keep the rewards flowing in.

Brzezinski is hardly the only one. That said, she has always been a gender throwback. This made her a natural for MSNBC, which had always been the news channel with the throwback gender values.

As Pareene suggests, Scarborough also took part in the old-world gender relationship which helped define Morning Joe from the start. Presumably, he may have invented it!

Brzezinski is hardly the only one to govel, and this is only one way to err. There are many ways for a modern journo to chase those vastly outsized rewards.
