Mrs. Obama, please tell me a story!

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2012

A photo that’s well worth viewing: Page A2 of this morning’s Washington Post is topped by a photo that’s well worth viewing.

The photo was worth the price of the paper—and then some. To view the photo, just click here—though in truth, the photo is better in black and white, the way it appears in the hard-copy Post.

Regarding that photo:

Jordyn Akuoko is 5—or so it says in the caption which appears in our hard-copy Post. Mrs. Obama encountered her “during an annual event at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington,” the caption reports.

Judging from that photo, this five-year-old didn’t want to miss a single word of the story Mrs. Obama was reading. Story-telling is powerful! We’ll take that photo over some of the standardized columns appearing elsewhere in this morning’s Post.

"This will be the only thing we talk about for a very long time?" We've asked before how some young people can get so faux so fast.

As always, your results may differ. But even in color, we’d have to say that photo is well worth viewing, on this or any day.

The rest of the story: For a brief report on Mrs Obama's trip to the medical center, just click here. According to this brief report, "her visit was part of a tradition by first ladies dating back to Bess Truman."

In all, four photos are offered there by the Post. For our money, they picked the best one for the hard-copy paper, though any one of the other three would have been valuable too.

  1. Thanks for the link - I didn't see that photo online. It is a great photo, and an uplifting one after so much horrible news.

  2. The distance between the tragedy in Newtown and the nurturing love of Michelle Obama is a universe of damaging experiences that destroyed a young man's mind, but for now we can find peace in the knowledge that there are many more First Ladies than there are damaged young men.
