...for being compared to a cow: Last night, during Segment 3, Greg Gutfeld once again recited the dumbest, phoniest rationalization in all of human history.
Once again, he was explaining why it didn't matter! Why it didn't matter in the good old days when he was pleasuring himself, night after night, by comparing the women of The Five to elephants, cattle, horses and whales, and occasionally just to "livestock."
He used to do it pretty much every night. Now it's very rare. We're guessing that his corporate owner, for whatever reason, called this little nut into her office and told him he had to stop.
(The cattle comparisons are now. Women still get insulted for allegedly being ugly, or for being displeasing in various ways to this freakish, demented sex god.)
Why was it OK for this corporate tool to express his loathing of women in that pitiful, broken-souled manner? In the midst of one of the dumbest segments ever aired on TV, the termagant offered this theoretic, as he's done several times in the past:
GUTFELD (8/31/26): Not to make this a left-right thing, but I will.
Like, the left calls us horrible names that get us killed—like "Nazi," or they add "phobe" to everything. They put targets on our backs. But they call us "mean" if we will, like, trash talk.
But trash talking doesn't get anyone hurt. Joy Behar isn't going to get killed because I called her fat.
We semi-agree with one part of that.
We don't see a lot of people getting called "Nazis" in our daily rounds. But like many others in Blue America, we think that we Blues have tended to engage in too much name-calling of the type Gutfeld is constantly crying about.
We think it's bad politics for the left, and we think such characterizations routinely tend to be not especially bright. Some such characterizations do strike us as dangerous. That includes the way JD Vance just called a Senate candidate "very evil," and it includes the very dangerous way Gutfeld and his irresponsible guests sometimes enjoy characterizing Dr. Fauci.
Let's be clear about one additional point. People don't typically call this little creep "mean." They much more typically call him "misogynist." It's hard to see why they wouldn't.
Meanwhile, sad! In the course of that foolishness, he pretends that he's simply been calling Joy Behar "fat." That's his way of refusing to describe the actual way he has gone about the daily rounds of insulting Behar and her colleagues.
(Meanwhile, Behar is 83. Does this sick little freak ever stop?)
In closing, yes—he actually said it! This is what he said:
Joy Behar isn't going to get killed because I called her fat.
That's almost surely correct! Almost surely, no one is going to murder someone because someone else called that person fat.
Astoundingly, that has been this little creep's self-justification in recent years. If they don't get killed, it's OK!
For reasons everyone except his bonehead guests understands, his behavior isn't OK. And of course, the ridiculous way he tries to excuse himself makes it clear that he knows that, just like everyone else.

Kat Timpf had nothing to say about this bullshit last night. Then again, she never does.
Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott puts this swill on the air. The corporation is making money off this atavistic plea to viewers who don't know better yet.
Sadly, teen-age boys watch this show. So do teenage girls. Young people deserve much better from creepy boys like Gutfeld.

ReplyDeleteThose 13 deaths include the high-profile ones, such as Charlie Kirk, not just random people. This makes Gutfeld's concern about being targeted just for being a Republican seem very unrealistic.
On the other hand, even excluding police violence aimed at black people (often in traffic stops), the people most likely to be killed just for being themselves are black people, going about their daily lives. They are targeted by white supremacists and by extremists hoping to start a race war (civil war).
When you think about violence against women as politically motivated there are different statistics:

Somerby narrow definition of political violence as only Republicans or Democrats being killed for belonging to a political party, neglects the violence associated with strongly held views in one or the other party.
Democrats target racism and sexism and homophobia and xenophobia because these are the biases behind strong views that result in violence against identified targets. We call these hate crimes. Democrats annoy bigots by charging them with racism and sexism etc. in order to reduce the incidence of such bigotry in our society. Democratic anti-racism efforts had succeed in reducing hate crimes against people of color, before Trump's arrival on the scene and his election to office. Now that DEI and civil rights efforts are being rolled back by Republicans, expect such crimes to increase again.
It annoys Republicans and Somerby when Democrats and other activists call out their bigotry by identifying them as racist or misogynist or whatever, because that means they will not be permitted to freely express their hate in public spaces without repercussions. Trump has set back the attempts to make this a kinder country to encouraging bigoted violence and crimes, but also by heightening the ugly lack of civility that is much worse on the right than the left. He has also been increasing the availability of guns, even by domestic abuse perpetrators and mentally ill people.
DeleteSo, there is a huge amount of hypocrisy on Somerby's part and by Gutfeld, when either of them claim that this is a both-sides problem and that it should be considered a good thing when hate crimes increase.
Somerby is not innocent here. If he were serious about caring about name-calling Behar and other women on TV, he would address the threat posed by the manosphere and the right's emphasis on toxic masculinity, not by making jokes about Illiad sexual politics and not knowing what toxic masculinity is, but by recognizing the subjugation of women already happening, enforced by violence, and most prevalent on the extreme right, including by Nazis and white supremacist, fundamentalist religious nuts, and women haters like the Tates and Trump himself.
A sign that times are getting better will be when the Epstein crimes are finally investigated and prosecuted. Until then, these are increasingly dangerous times for women, but not for Republicans.

The characters attend NRA fundraisers and anti-abortion meetings while having (queer) affairs and covering up murder. While the overdramatized and satirical portrayal of Maple Brook, Texas makes for an entertaining television show, it sometimes touches on painful realities.

However, threats of violence discourage women from participating in civic life by threatening their lives if they continue serving as poll workers and election officials.
Women have spent decades building their political power. Since 1980, women have outnumbered men at the polls. Women are breaking barriers by running for office, taking seats on the judicial bench, and serving on the front lines of ensuring voters can exercise their freedom to vote...
"During the 2016 election, after a poll showed Hillary Clinton winning the election by a landslide if only women could vote, a spate of “repeal the 19th” tweets appeared on Twitter. In 2024, these “jokes” made a reappearance, amplified by former Trump White House officials. While the posters dismiss them as being “locker room talk,” they are emblematic of a troubling trend on social media that encourages women to submit to their husbands (and vote like them, if they vote at all).
In the first episode of The Hunting Wives, when asked what they do for work, one character laughingly responds, “We don’t work. We wife.”

And yet that is just what Somerby is doing today. He is dismissing the threats by pretend that there is danger on both sides, and pretending that a joke against Behar for being fat is nothing concerning to anyone, not even Behar.
This idea that Democrats engage in as much political violence as Republicans is as silly as claiming that women engage in violence against men just as often as men direct violence toward women.
