More better high school. Mucho mejor math.

I suggest, instead of a nine and growing part series, an earlier, non-silly BOB technique (not involving any Gail Collins Butch-Ottereque name play on Ripley) is in order.

We should take Ripley's work with the unforgettable sage advice given by Dandy Dan Daniel, one of the WMCA good guys:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peeQC8JeXw8

Of course you could "stand by me" and 'yakety yak" about the need for piss poor teachers and ever greater high school laxity. But to do that requires back channel access to fuzzy facts and dodgy data.

KZ (On Broadway, Not Doom this day)

If you dislike the Dandy Dan version, there is this one. Of course they had to disappear the version by a black American singer, Leslie Uggams, to make this one the signature version.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCRZZC-DH7M

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8611810694571930415.post-65495090421655663372013-10-03T12:18:33.416-04:002013-10-03T12:18:33.416-04:00If the Sandia Report were written today, thanks to...If the Sandia Report were written today, thanks to Anonymous and heroes like Julian Assange,
Private Lizzy Manning, Glenn Greenwald, and Edward Snowden, it would have been instantly available to all the world and the terrible reforms resulting from "A Nation At Risk" would have been stopped in their tracks.

Thanks, Al Gore for taking the initiative in creating the internet.

KZAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8611810694571930415.post-82445897503106065902013-10-03T10:12:11.208-04:002013-10-03T10:12:11.208-04:00Sorry, Bob...but the "talented," privile...Sorry, Bob...but the "talented," privileged Amanda Ripley can hardly be called "centrist." She repeats the same flawed arguments as the corporate-style "reformers."

She blames teachers (and now sports too) for the "mediocre" test performance of students (and she's apparently never heard of The Sandia Report). She's in favor of merit pay. She wants more "rigorous" standards. She ties (falsely) American student test scores to "economic competitiveness."

Okay, Ripley is not as bad as, say, Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin.

But she's very much as masterful in creating straw man propositions.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
