McGraw-Hill.

http://www.amazon.com/Human-Universals-Donald-Brown/dp/007008209X

That a cultural behavior seems to be everywhere suggests it may be innate to human perception and thinking, to human relations. However, just because something is innate or universals, doesn't mean it is right. We humans have the ability to transcend our natures through the same culture that enacts the unfairness of racial discrimination. To our credit, we are trying to do that in the US.

As W.E.B. DuBois described, the preference for light skin exists even within the African American subculture -- although he ascribes this to white influence. The same preference has been found in African tribes uninfluenced by outside contact. This does not excuse racism, but it does mean that race is a concern for everyone and we all share the same human tendencies, the same nature.

I think the current blame game is an obstacle to progress. It permits groups to use race to achieve a variety of unrelated ends without actually improving conditions for people in our society. It needs to stop. I don't see current events as helping to achieve racial justice because there is no common cause. To achieve common cause we need to stop this blame game, whether aimed at police, political parties or people like Michael Richards and Donald Sterling.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8611810694571930415.post-88640319454690467672015-07-24T13:59:37.516-04:002015-07-24T13:59:37.516-04:00Following up on Bob's point, the Obama Adminis...Following up on Bob's point, the Obama Administration played a major role in presenting exaggerated and misleading versions of the deaths of Brown and Martin. I mean, I can...I can't understand you, troll.

I mean, I can understand what you're *attempting* -- a parody, a satire. You do a poor job of it, because you imagine such work amounts to little more than stringing together some grammar that apes your target.

But a parody or a satire has work to do. Yours doesn't do it. The reason is clear: for the work to be done, you'd have to do the work yourself of figuring out what you wish to refute in your target. That you haven't done that work is embarrassingly clear.

What needs refuting (if it's disagreeable!) is Somerby's point. You'd have to know what that is, for a start.
