Observing some splendid behavior:
We're pleased to give credit where credit is due regarding President Donald J. Trump's latest spectacular brainstorm.

The Washington Post has published this instant dispatch. We were pleased to see these reactions by major Republican solons:
DEBONIS AND O'KEEFE (7/26/17): Lawmakers in both parties slammed President Trump’s decision on Wednesday to bar transgender Americans from serving in the military, while many of his allies on Capitol Hill remained largely perplexed or silent.

[...]

Rep. Thomas J. Rooney (R-Fla.), a former Army officer,
said “it throws us off” when Trump issues surprise tweets that distract from other GOP priorities. “Based on what we’re doing in here this week, I don’t know what the connection is,” he said.

Capitol Hill’s most prominent Republican voice on national security matters, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.), also criticized Trump’s announcement, calling it “unclear” and “yet another example of why major policy announcements should not be made via Twitter.”

McCain added, “There is no reason to force service members who are able to fight, train, and deploy to leave the military—regardless of their gender identity.” He said there should be no change in policy until the Pentagon completes an ongoing review of the issue.

Other conservative senators offered criticism of the move. A spokeswoman for Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), an Army veteran and member of the Armed Services Committee, said that the senator believes “Americans who are qualified and can meet the standards to serve in the military should be afforded that opportunity,” though the military should not fund gender-reassignment surgery.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), a Trump ally on most issues, said he wanted “more information and clarity” on Trump’s policy. “I don’t think we should be discriminating against anyone,” he said, adding that transgender people “deserve the best we can do for them.”

And Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of an Appropriations subcommittee that sets Pentagon spending levels, said he expected Congress to call hearings exploring Trump’s policy change.

“You ought to treat everybody fairly and give everybody a chance to serve,” he told CNN.
We'll quote Woodrow Call from Lonesome Dove:

"Splendid behavior," he said.

  1. “I don’t think we should be discriminating against anyone,” he [Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah)] said.

Sadly Mr Hatch got carried away quite a bit, in this grandstanding frenzy. We are discriminating every day of our lives, as indeed we should.

Specifically, in the military, I don't think any 70 year old diabetes sufferer (for example), or a blind person would be allowed to enlist. Discrimination!

Therefore, in respect to "transgender Americans" (what does it mean, anyway?), Mr Hatch, if he really believes that they should be allowed to enlist, needs to stop bullshitting and provide a meaningful argument.

    1. A soldier needs to be able-bodied and combat ready. Being transgender does not affect that in any way, whereas being 70, diabetic, and blind prevents the person from carrying out the duties of a soldier. Why do you hold such an illogical belief?

Really? All hail Mr Anonymous, the world's famous expert on everything 'transgender'. Yes Sir, if you say so, it's case closed.

    3. Remember when republicans gave a shit about soldiers and veterans?
      Me neither.

    4. Yeah, it really doesn't. Spent alot of time working with and knowing transgender people have ya?

    5. I don't think I've met a single 'transgendered' person in my life, which is why I don't have any opinion whatsoever on their fitness to be in the military.

And you - you sound like another world-class expert?

But just as a general consideration: someone in a male body who believes himself to be female certainly does sound like a person with a very serious problem...

So should you. And if you need a definition of transgender, google would be your friend. What an asshole you are.

    1. You sound emotional for no apparent reason - sorry, are you a "transgender American" by chance? What does 'transgender' mean, in your case? Are you 'Rosalie' with a dick?

  3. What I like about Trump's statement is that it focuses on the military's mission.

    1. Oh, I know! Their first and most important mission is to protect Trump from Hillary, Rosie O'Donnell and Robert Mueller! Trump: he understands the military's mission better than anyone else, which includes discriminating against transgender people. Brilliant!

    2. WW2 is an example of why the military's mission is overwhelmingly important. Imagine what the US and the world would have been like if we had lost. Or, look at the horrible lives lived by generations of North Koreans, because we couldn't win that war. Not to mention the ongoing risk to other countries posed by N. Korea.

BTW one asset someone from private industry brings to the job is the knowledge that costs matter. Trump knows that money spent on military sex change operations means that much less money available for things that directly affect winning or losing a war.

    3. Trump knows nothing about anything.
He is scum. Lower than scum. His soul is broken. God help us.

    4. People with bad teeth shouldn't be allowed to enlist because the government might be expected to fix them.

    5. David in Cal,
Yet Trump wants to lower taxes and starve our military, to give billionaires more.
      He's a businessman, for sure.

    6. I shouldn't waste my time responding to people like david in cal so this is for the benefit of those with open minds. First, I doubt anybody with a brain doesn't know the military is important. The better example instead of WWII is that because of our military there isn't a WWIII. Knowing some history is so helpful to those who want to learn or debate. For instance we need look no further than Alan Turing who I think single handes saved more allied lives in WWII than any other human. He was gay and perhaps would have become trans in today's world. I need say no more.I don't write this in hope David will get it but maybe to help reinforce those who understand and to encourage the learning of history.

  4. Quoting from Lonesome Dove tells me yet another reason why I have liked Bob and a reminder to check back in more often. Larry McMurtry should knows how to write. I still can't believe the guy who wrote Comanche Moon also wrote Terms of Endearment. Wow, talk about range.
