WE BLUES: Disordered Republican solons gone wild!

THURSDAY, JULY 30, 2026

Then later, the "cable news" kidz: Last evening, on The Last Word, Lawrence O'Donnell very much did get it right.

He opened with the Fauci hearing, not with some bit of relative ephemera. He even said this, in passing, as he discussed the astonishing conduct put on display in the Senate hearing room:

No Republican senator mentioned today that, on his last day if officeon January 19, 2021Donald Trump gave Dr. Fauci the Presidential Commendation.

For the record, it was part of a set of Presidential Commendations given to several dozen members of the "Operation Warp Speed Team." General Milley was even commended by President Trump that day, just to refresh you on the way these things can change.

O'Donnell started with the astonishing hearing, exactly as he (and others) should have done. He was wise enough to name the madness on display in the hearing room. He played tape of Senator Blumenthal saying that yesterday's hearing was "one of the darkest days in Senate history," and he added such assessments as these:

Republican senators disgraced themselves today, attacking the man who saved lives, possibly millions of lives, during the Covid-19 outbreak.

[Dr. Fauci's opening statement] led Rand Paul to turn his hearing room into the most disgraceful Stalinist tribunal the United States Senate has ever seen.

Did Dr. Fauci save millions of lives? We can't answer that question.

Was this really the most disgraceful Stalinist tribunal the United States Senate has ever seen?  We can't assess that either!

That said, given the madness put on display by Republican senators, it's hard to believe that this wasn't "one of the darkest days in the history of the Senate"a day so gruesome that one of the mutts was even willing to showboat by saying this to the committee's lone witness:

Here I am sitting in front of you six years later saying, "Who the fuck do you think you were for doing that?"

Yes, that was actually said.

We're dealing with anthropology herewith the level to which tribal groups may descend when they've convinced themselves that it's time to engage in a vast tribal war. Yesterday, how bad did the madness get?

In the case of Moreno, Johnson, Tuberville, Hawley we'd say it got astoundingly bad. We thought again of Professor Knox's description of the mayhem which occurred when the Achaeans finally overran Troy, but that (fictional) exhibition of human fury involved acts we won't return to today.

We may attempt to memorialize yesterday's madness in a set of reports next week. For today, we want to give you one example of the lunacy put on display by the Republican solons gone wild, and one example of the madness put on display by The Five.

Example oneThe Wisconsin senator's tale

Yesterday afternoon, Wu and Engber produced an instant account of the mayhem for The Atlantic. Their overview reads like this:

What Anthony Fauci Didn’t Say

[...]

Senator Paul had said he called the hearing—billed simply as “Testimony of Anthony Fauci”—because “the American people deserve answers” about Fauci’s role in the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the American people got something absurd: a three-hour spectacle of unchallenged allegations and distorted facts.

To the extent that we the people still exist, we were exposed to a boatload of "distorted facts," Wu and Engber wrote.

"Distorted facts" is a strange construction. Here's one example of what they meant. It comes from Senator Johnson:

[T]he most obvious distortions at the hearing came from the Senate panel. Senator Ron Johnson, a Republican from Wisconsin, proposed that the pulmonary infarction Fauci experienced in 2021—the details of which were revealed in the pages from Fauci’s private diary that Paul released last weekend—may have resulted from COVID vaccination and booster shots. More than 39,000 deaths had resulted from COVID-19 vaccination, he said, and although Facebook had censored his supporters when they tried to share that fact, “this wasn’t disinformation, this was the truth.”

Fauci only sat there with his fingers clasped. He did not point out that this was not the truth at all, and that Johnson’s data—derived from unvetted, user-submitted information in the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System—are likely to overestimate the real total by about 1,000 times.

Senator Johnson has sometimes been described as the Senate's dumbest member. That was before Senator Tuberville came along and sought to wrestle that crown away.

However that contest might be judged, Wu and Engber estimate that Johnson's data were inaccurate by a factor of one thousand!

Are Wu and Engber right about that? Given Johnson's long track record, we know of no obvious reason to disbelieve what they've said.

Example two: Compagno, one of The Five

Wu and Engber posted at 5 p.m., just as The Five was starting to air on the Fox News Channel. It's our flailing nation's most-watched "cable news" show.

Yesterday's edition was a debacle. The program opened with a segment about the Fauci hearing. The mutt Greg Gutfeld, going first, quickly offered this dispatch from a distant tribal reserve:

GUTFELD (7/29/26): There's one question, it's such an easy question, and he [Dr. Fauci] should answer it:

How did he know the origins of the Covid virus when he said it was a wet market?  It was one of those things where like, we knew that it was the lab leak. But how did he know?

This manifest nutcaseand we're sorry, but that's what he isdid stumble forward from there.  But in that passage, Gutfeld was assuring Fox News viewers that they and their tribe have brilliantly known all along that Covid-19 originated in the Wuhan lab

Out here in the actual world, no such thing can be said to be "known" today. Nor do we have any idea what this disturbed, disordered man meant when he seemed to say that Dr. Fauci has declared that the virus originated in the Wuhan wet market.

That isn't the position that Dr. Fauci has routinely voicedbut so what? Fox News viewers were now bring handed their angry tribe's reassuring scripture.

Assessed by any rational standard, a nation in which a nut-ball like Gutfeld is a leading figure in broadcast news has already become a failed state. Accordingly, the miserable performances continued from there, with recitations by Watters and Ford which we'll expect to assess next week.

Straining for coherence as always, Emily Compagno spoke last. In its embarrassing entirety, here's what the Fox savant said. We invite you to give it a look:

COMPAGNO: For a party that flies planes and launches campaigns based on "no kings," it's shocking to me that they worshiped this one man, and based on his unilateral recommendations threw in the towel for everything, followed him blindly, and now that's the reason they can't bear to acknowledge that behind the curtain the whole time was a little tiny man pretending to be Oz.

If the science had been correct, if his diary said, "Yes, all of my research shows that everything I've been saying on air is true, I stand behind it," then it would just be a shame. But now it is a sham. Now it is downright fraud and negligence and corruption and concealment of government records and obstruction of justice and so much more, and by the way, the standard for negligence, as you knew or should have known, he doesn't even have to have malintent to be on the hook for that at the state level, so what I see here is not that Operation Warp Speed was the result of a concerted effort in wartime from a country. I see that it was simply at the behest of one small, egomaniacal, sullen, hubris-infected individual that made everyone fall in line after him and those that dared to question him in any way, shape or form were vilified and ostracized.

And in addition to thosewe can never get them backmillion deaths, what about the hundreds of thousands of livelihoods and businesses? The weaponization of the administrative state, the multiple felonies that were booked because people dared to keep serving others in restaurants, and this guy dares to say in his opening statement that it was about embarrassing him or intimidating him and that he somehow had a right to privacy of his private diaries on a government computer?

No, Idiot! For someone that was a public servant for decades, he should know a pen he held was never his own personal pen, everything was actually owned by the American people and that we do, therefore, have an interest in reading it.

Thank God, in fact, he did write it on a government computer like an idiot, because now we can see that he was downright lying,

And for a scientist that people held him above that standard, they said with impunity we believe him because he should be above all politics and above all ego, instead we learn that he was simply lying for his own monetary and fame gain, which is the most tragic thing of all because it is so ephemeral, it is so gross.

And to see him today at the hearingjust final quick thought on this:

He did not even have the integrity to look those lawmakers in the eyes when they were detailing the lies that he ruined while he contrasted the death toll of that day on the same page with his Vanity Fair cover story, for example. He makes me sick. and I know that despite this limited pardon, there will be accountability, legally, for him, and likely criminally, moving forward.

Yes, that's what she said.  The name-calling was general over her high-speed, garbled remarks.

According to the perpetually furious Compagno, Dr. Fauci is an "idiot." He's "a little tiny man pretending to be Oz," she said. He's "a small, egomaniacal, sullen, hubris-infected individual" who makes Compagno sick.

As to what this idiot has done wrongas to the offenses for which he faces criminal liability moving forwardthe picture was much less clear.

Most strikingly, Compagno said Dr. Fauci was "downright lying" about something at some point in time. But she never got around to saying what the "downright lies" actually were, or how she feels so sure that Fauci's statements were wrong.

Most clearly, Compagno complains that Dr. Fauci thought he could assume future privacy when he recorded his daily experiences on a government computer. Also, he wouldn't look Republican statesmen in the eye when they were saying things like this:

Here I am sitting in front of you six years later saying, "Who the fuck do you think you were for doing that?"

In the face of such obvious greatness, the small man with all the hubris refused to make eye contact!

It's madness to have people like Gutfeld and Compagno on the air at our nation's most watched news channel. But then again, We Blues!

We Blues! At our largest news orgs, our tribunes refuse to report and discuss the daily madness being created at the channel in question.

People like Gutfeld, Compagno and Watters offer manifest lunacyremarkable imitations of lifeevery day of the week. But then again, We Blues!

When Compagno offers garbled furywhen Gutfeld slimes and cons the nationour "journalists" all know what to do:

They agree to look away!

we’re bogged down in an unwinnable war. our allies hate our guts. armed federal thugs roam our streets. the price of everything continues to skyrocket ever higher. we even have explosive ass mayhem, for fuck’s sake, with people being turned into human shit-geysers.

Republicans of course, don’t have any solutions to the problems they’ve created — but what they do have is spectacle, and performative wankery.

which is why, out of the clear blue, they chose to put 85-year-old Dr. Anthony Fauci — of all people! — under the hot lights of a Senate hearing and spent an entire day persecuting him." [Tiedrich]

  2. "Did Dr. Fauci save millions of lives? We can't answer that question."

Why cannot Somerby answer this question? Especially if his work on AIDS is considered along with his covid response. Just use a little AI, Somerby you asshole. Even a robot can answer this:

"Yes, Dr. Anthony Fauci helped save tens of millions of lives through his leadership in global health programs and infectious disease research spanning over five decades.

Global HIV/AIDS and PEPFARPEPFAR Architect: He was a principal architect of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), launched in 2003.Millions Saved: This program is credited with saving over 20 to 25 million lives from HIV/AIDS in developing nations.Early Treatment: His early research and clinical trials at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) helped develop life-prolonging treatments for AIDS patients in the 1980s and 1990s.

Pandemic Response and Vaccine DevelopmentCOVID-19 Mitigation: As the longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), his agency's foundational scientific investments enabled the rapid creation of COVID-19 vaccines, which saved millions of global lives.Public Health Measures: Guidance supported by public health officials during the pandemic aimed to slow viral spread, reduce strain on hospitals, and protect vulnerable populations until treatments and vaccines became widely available."

This is why the attacks on Fauci are so despicable. Even a trained monkey knows that Fauci saved lives. But Somerby doesn't want to oppose Dear Leader and the right's political targeting of a man who deserved the medal Trump himself gave him.

Shame on you, Somerby, you spineless waste of humanity.

    1. This comment appears to misunderstand the specific claim Somerby was making.

The key sentence in Somerby's piece is:

      > "Did Dr. Fauci save millions of lives? We can't answer that question."

Taken in context, Somerby is not arguing that Fauci accomplished nothing or that he did not save lives. Rather, he is making a narrower epistemic point: he is declining to state as a fact the specific quantitative claim that Fauci "saved millions of lives."

The commenter responds as though Somerby had asked:

      > "Did Fauci ever save any lives?"

      or

      > "Was Fauci beneficial overall?"

      Those are different questions.

      Where the comment may misunderstand

      1. It changes the scope of the question.

Somerby's question concerns a specific numerical claim ("millions of lives").

      The commenter answers by combining:

Fauci's HIV/AIDS work over several decades,

      PEPFAR,

      NIH research,

      COVID vaccines,

      public-health guidance.

Those are all separate contributions involving thousands of scientists, physicians, administrators, elected officials, and institutions.

      2. It attributes collective accomplishments to one individual.

      For example:

PEPFAR was created by the Bush administration and Congress, with contributions from many officials, scientists, diplomats, NGOs, and health workers.

COVID vaccines resulted from work by pharmaceutical companies, university researchers, NIH scientists, regulators, Operation Warp Speed, manufacturing networks, and healthcare providers.

Fauci played an important leadership role, but saying he "saved 20–25 million lives" compresses an enormous collaborative effort into a single person.

      3. It substitutes plausibility for proof.

The AI-generated passage says things like:

      > "PEPFAR is credited with saving over 20–25 million lives."

That is a statement about the program, not a direct measurement of Fauci's personal causal contribution.

      Likewise:

      > "his agency's investments enabled rapid vaccine creation"

      is different from proving

      > "Fauci saved millions."

Those are related but not logically identical claims.

The AI answer also overstates certainty

      The AI says:

      > "Yes, Dr. Anthony Fauci helped save tens of millions of lives..."

That conclusion depends on assigning substantial credit to Fauci for:

      decades of HIV/AIDS research,

      leadership of NIAID,

      influence on PEPFAR,

      COVID vaccine development,

      pandemic guidance.

Many historians and public-health experts would agree he deserves significant credit.

But precisely how many lives are attributable to Fauci personally cannot be measured with precision.

      The emotional conclusion

      The final paragraph—

      > "Even a trained monkey knows..."

      > "you spineless waste of humanity"

adds rhetorical force but no additional evidence.

It also attributes motives to Somerby:

      > "doesn't want to oppose Dear Leader"

without supporting evidence. That is speculative. Somerby's reluctance to affirm a precise numerical claim could simply reflect a preference for epistemic caution rather than political sympathy for Trump's criticisms of Fauci.

      Bottom line

The strongest criticism of the comment is that it answers a different question than the one Somerby posed. Somerby questioned whether one can confidently assert the precise claim that Fauci "saved millions of lives." The commenter responds by arguing that Fauci made enormous contributions to public health and therefore deserves credit for saving millions. Those positions are not necessarily inconsistent. One can believe Fauci was an extraordinarily important public-health leader while also recognizing that assigning an exact number of lives saved to a single individual is inherently difficult.

    5. Of course, saving lives required coordinated action by thousands of others. Duh! Fauci was the guy in charge, which is why he is now being targeted. The buck stops at the top. So does the credit. Imagine if Trump had been in charge, in Fauci's job, instead of Fauci himself. What would have happened? Could we repeat the pandemic response today with Trump as president? Absolutely not. Obviously not. Fauci got his medal for his leadership, not his lab work, much less the nursing done by invaluable hospital workers everywhere.

Any child could refute the stupid AI "logical" complaints above. Because we think like people not machines. The goal of this analysis is to attack a specific commenter's content. It has not successfully refuted any of it, much as the ongoing comments by DG and AC/MA and David in Cal fail to convince despite their persistence.

He knows that, which is why his deliberate behavior here is called trolling.

Somerby could moderate his comments. That is how other blogs get rid of noxious elements like DG. I think that shows that he neither respects his readers nor the quality of discussion here. That is yet another reason why I suspect that Somerby is being paid to push content (right wing talking points, sites like Fox and Mediaite). A person who was interested in the exchange of ideas would do something to improve the quality of the comment section, not ignore it.

    16. The AI tries to pretend that a non-specific number such as "millions of lives" is a specific number that cannot be determined. When there are already millions saved by Dr. Fauci's AIDS research, there must surely be more than the preexisting millions when he started saving covid lives. So why then cannot Somerby agree with the nonspecific estimate of millions?

When someone refuses to sign on to a nonspecific but clearly justified number such as millions, he implies that Dr. Fauci was not responsible for saving any lives, not quibbling over the specificity of the number, as the AI mistakenly assumes.

It is like saying to Carl Sagan, there are not millions of stars. No one expects that anyone has counted the exact number of stars. It implies a belief that whatever is visible in the sky may not be stars at all, and that is a very different matter, perhaps someone who takes the Biblical description of the firmament literally, for example.

The AI has chosen the wrong argument, but it can be forgiven because it isn't human and is in its infancy in terms of usefulness.

      Delete
    22. 12:57 may be misunderstanding the distinction between declining to affirm a specific proposition and denying the broader proposition.

      Somerby's statement was:

      > "Did Dr. Fauci save millions of lives? We can't answer that question."

      The commenter interprets this as:

      > "Somerby is implying Fauci wasn't responsible for saving any lives."

But that inference does not necessarily follow.

There are at least three distinct propositions:

      1. Fauci saved lives.
      2. Fauci saved millions of lives.
      3. We can confidently state that Fauci saved millions of lives.

One can accept (1) while being uncertain about (2) or (3).

      For example, someone might say:

      > "I think Fauci undoubtedly saved many lives, but I don't know how anyone could confidently quantify his personal contribution as 'millions.'"

That person is not implying Fauci saved zero lives. They are expressing caution about a numerical attribution.

The commenter appears to assume that refusing to endorse the higher claim automatically rejects the lower claim. Logically, that is not required.

The comment also assumes an implication that may not exist

      The commenter writes:

      > "When someone refuses to sign on to a nonspecific but clearly justified number such as millions, he implies that Dr. Fauci was not responsible for saving any lives."
This rests on an assumption about what Somerby intended to imply.

It's possible Somerby did intend to cast doubt on Fauci's accomplishments—but the quoted sentence alone does not establish that. It could equally reflect a general reluctance to make precise historical or causal claims that are difficult to prove.

"Millions" is not as nonspecific as the commenter suggests

The commenter calls "millions" a "nonspecific" number.

In ordinary language, "millions" is broad, but it is still a substantial quantitative claim. It asserts at least two million lives, and potentially many more. Supporting such a claim requires judgments about causation, counterfactuals ("What would have happened otherwise?"), and the degree of credit attributable to Fauci personally versus institutions, other scientists, policymakers, and healthcare workers.

Someone can reasonably think Fauci deserves enormous credit while hesitating to assign that specific magnitude to one individual.

The AI response did not necessarily make the mistake alleged

The commenter says the AI "mistakenly assumes" Somerby was merely quibbling over specificity.

The AI's interpretation was actually more modest: it pointed out that Somerby's sentence is compatible with epistemic caution. Unless there is additional context showing that Somerby intended to deny Fauci saved any lives, the AI's reading is a plausible one.

In short, the commenter may be reading an unstated implication into Somerby's words. Whether that implication is warranted depends on broader context, not on the quoted sentence itself. Based on the quote alone, "We can't answer that question" does not logically entail "Fauci didn't save any lives."

Republicans did it, and they deserve to be called the shitweasels Tiedrich calls them. "Dr. Anthony Fauci maintained that the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases did not fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Critics and political opponents argued that sub-grants given to the Wuhan lab through EcoHealth Alliance did constitute gain-of-function work.

How is the hearing yesterday nothing at all like anything in the Illiad? Even AI could answer this question. First, the Greeks thought they had a grievance against Troy. Where is the grievance against a man who saved lives. Second, it was customary to sack a city after winning a siege. It is not customary to mistreat heroes who sacrifice and are awarded medals afterward, just for political gain. Third, although Somerby is too dainty to list what the Greeks did in Troy, there are people calling for Fauci to be lynched and those who want to put him in jail for being heroic and saving millions (Somerby won't agree it was a lot of people who lived instead of dying because of Fauci). Blame is a bit murky in both situations. It was not the Trojans who took Helen but Gods meddling in human affairs who awarded Helen to Paris as a reward after after he judged a beauty contest. Paris acted in good faith and the attacks by the Greeks were his longer-term reward. In that sense there is a slight similarity between the two situations. Somerby never discusses that, preferring to believe that humans just fight each other a lot, for no reason.

It is hard to see the reason why Republicans are attacking Fauci, but a tiny bit of thought suggests answers, such as a desire to deflect MAGA ire away from Trump and toward a target that already elicits their hate, tuning them up to vote in the midterms. And it prevents anyone from thinking that this is a useless do-nothing Congress with no achievements. Are MAGAs really this stupid? Apparently.

  8. Gutfeld asks: "How did he know the origins of the Covid virus when he said it was a wet market? It was one of those things where like, we knew that it was the lab leak. But how did he know? "

Because that is where previous mutated viruses have come from that led to other pandemics. These viruses mutate within animals who pass it from species to species until they come into contact with humans in a place where animals and humans interact, such as a wet market. The clusters of cases around that Wujan market suggest that is where the mutation originated. Fauci based his statement on that evidence, coupled with knowledge about how past pandemics have happened.

Where did the plague come from, long before there were bio-research labs anywhere? Where did the Spanish flu come from? Where did the recent Hanta virus outbreak come from? Where does measles come from? Not leaky research labs, nor motivated bio-attacks by Chinese. From mutations and animals that eventually come into contact with unwary humans (those without masks or gloves).

Dr. Fauci did not create covid, nor did he spread it, nor did he lie about where it came from (to the extent that anyone knows for sure). Republicans need to read a book and stop being so stupid. A good one is the book about Spanish flu that just came out about 10 years ago. It explains how viruses change and how epidemics start, stop and become pandemics.

We Blues do not run Fox News. We cannot prevent them from saying any damned thing they want. We ARE discussing this Fauci nonsense elsewhere in the media we have access to. It is not true that Blue America ignores the lies told by Rand Paul and others. No one should be watching Fox News, especially not Somerby (who seems too impressionable to be trusted watching garbage) and not Blue America. The MAGAs and right wingers shouldn't be presented with this either, but this is a free country. Freedom of the press means freedom for the press you don't like, not just your own preferred sources. We on the left understand that. Somerby, with his anti-democratic leanings and his belief that fascism would be an improvement, seems more than willing to abandon the protections of our Constitution in order to curb Fox excesses. Look at the way Somerby adeptly shifts responsibility for right wing idiocy onto "journalists" (not even blue ones) instead of accepting his own contribution to Gutfeld's mess. Somerby promotes the Gutfeld show nearly every day, even urging blues to watch it for the buried truth, then he wants to blame us for not watching, while Gutfeld sows confusion among his right wing viewers with daily propaganda. How did that become our problem, much less our fault?

This is all on the right, which uses the undereducated audience's stupidity against them to further their own grifting. It is ugly, but that is what is happening. Not any Blue failure to monitor idiots like Compagno or Gutfeld.

In academia, there is peer review to ensure that only honest and truthful info becomes part of the scientific literature. There is no such fact-checking in the press because saying whatever one wants is a Constitutional right held by publishers. If Somerby wants more truth and less garbage, he should try doing some fact-checking here with his blog. Instead of shrugging and claiming he cannot say how many lives Fauci saved, when it is demonstrably on the order of millions. Somerby can be part of the solution or part of the problem. “I had a million doses of hydroxychloroquine in warehouses as the defense policy coordinator for the EPA that I was trying to distribute to hospitals. and he got the FDA stop me from doing that.”

oh my god, are we really going to have to relitigate the whole fucking pandemic? seriously?

hydroxychloroquine, in case you’ve mercifully forgotten, is an antimalarial drug that has no effect whatsoever on covid.

Hydroxychloroquine is not recommended as a treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Also, hydroxychloroquine doesn’t prevent infection with the virus that causes COVID-19.

that not me saying this. that’s the Mayo Clinic. I hear they’re experts on that sort of thing.

if Dr. Fauci indeed put the brakes on Jailbird Pete’s dumb-ass scheme to make us all gobble some ineffective drug, he did him a fucking favor."

After the controlled medical studies were conducted by researchers, these quack treatments were proven scientifically to have no value and some potential for harming those taking them. Arguably, Fauci saved more lives by refusing to allow quack remedies to flood the market, pushed by Republicans seeking to profit off desperate people.

Or is that what you’re saying? “He’s ruining this country and making your lives worse.” It sounds ridiculous to add “ but he’s mentally ill, and I pity him”. Anyone listening to that would take you for a gigantic fool. Which you wouid be.

    12. We should be pitying ourselves. We are the ones suffering.

    13. You know what handicapped people say, DG? They say don’t pity me, support me.

    14. Fuck 'em DG. They are a lost cause. Can't fix stupid, as evidenced on these here pages on the daily.

    15. Good point, 1:42. Somerby wants to make this all about pitying, Donald fucking Trump, and not the victims of his corruption and incompetence. Which is all of us.

    16. In my opinion, this “Fuck ‘em!” attitude is not conducive to persuading those few Others who might be persuadable. But, obviously, opinions differ.

    17. Ok, DG. No Democratic politician is going around saying fuck Trump voters. What they are saying to Trump voters is you are being fucked by Trump. Do you see the difference? What does it matter what somebody says here at an obscure political blog? It’s just so obtuse to equate these random anonymous comments here with what the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates are actually doing and saying in public.

    18. I don't see one single shred of evidence that any right winger is persuadable when it comes to Trump. DG sees a few Others who might be persuadable. Has anyone asked him whether those Others are in the room with him now?

There are studies showing that the more money and time someone has invested in something the less willing they are to abandon it. That means that the more merch (hats, gold shoes, broken watches) and rallies a person has gone to, the less likely they will change their minds about Trump. They would have to live down all the enthusiastic speeches they made to their brothers-in law and employees, at a minimum. Too embarrassing. So recruiting Others is a no-go.

There is also the difficulty that many Dems are conflicted about whether we really want such stupid people, stubborn annoying graceless morons, in our party. It is bad enough with the current divisions but this would make our own party intolerable. It isn't like they are going to grow their own college degrees just by renouncing Tuberville. The Rand Paul Libertarians are the worst. So who needs them? We are going to win on the strength of our AI-driven logic machines, doncha know?

    19. @1:53 has it right. But so did Hillary. Too many deplorables are not fit for polite company. They think it is funny to roll coal at Teslas in Elon's memory, while plastering their own vehicles with too many flags to be good for their mileage. These are silly stupid people who deserve what they will get in life, especially after trying to kill so many by not wearing a mask during covid.

What I don't get is why they will believe anything told to them by the world's biggest liar but are impervious to reality otherwise. How many times must they be told that Fauci did a good job and saved a bunch of people, before they will believe it? If they cannot be convinced of something so obvious, it is a waste of time telling them Mamdani is good for NYC or anything else about Democratic candidates.

    20. DG never offers evidence for his claims, because there is none to offer.

DG is a right wing troll just like David and AC/MA, best to ignore them.

  19. It’s a very simple matter for Somerby to turn off the ability to comment anonymously here at this blog. The sad fact is, however, that if he were to do that, the number of comments would drop to around approximately zero.

  20. Has the committee released the Fauci dic*pics yet? This is no different than what the right did to Hunter.

    1. The difference is Fauci is very old so they are hoping to kill him with stress. Hunter is a younger recovering drug addict and they want to stress him back to the Oxy. Bottom line, jaggoffs and weirdos, the whole lot of them.

  21. “Did Dr. Fauci save millions of lives? We can't answer that question.”

    Why not?

“ Was this really the most disgraceful Stalinist tribunal the United States Senate has ever seen? We can't assess that either! “

    Why not?

  23. Trump has on occasion taken credit for Operation Warp Speed.

To be clear, Trump had nothing to do with Operation Warp Speed, it was conceived and implemented by the FDA, with no input from Trump, and was funded by Congress.
