...is helped by our lack of language: The dumbest person who ever lived has succumbed to his latest brainstorm:
Trump Calls Officials Handling Los Angeles Wildfires ‘Incompetent’
President-elect Donald J. Trump offered fresh criticism early Sunday of the officials in charge of fighting the Los Angeles wildfires, calling them “incompetent” and asking why the blazes were not yet extinguished.
“The fires are still raging in L.A.,” Mr. Trump wrote on his Truth Social site. “The incompetent pols have no idea how to put them out.”
You could always call it a papal bull. But there he has gone again!
The New York Times news report continues along from there. That said:
The dumbest person who ever lived is about to become commander again. Journalistically, we continue to lack an established language for describing this disordered person's endless array of new clothes.
Important note:
"Liar" may not be an accurate term, and it hasn't worked all that well.
"Disordered": is unlikely to work either
ReplyDeleteWe need stronger, more explicit language. Donald Trump is a Republican.
Delete7:14 is right. Trump is using the GOP playbook: always blame Democrats. Always attack Democrats. It’s been their playbook since newt Gingrich.
DeleteIt’s propaganda, and it seems to work, to some degree. They have identified Newsom as a potential presidential candidate, so they are starting in early on attacking him.
Asshole? Bullshitter?
DeleteThe problem is not the strength of the language used to describe Trump. It is that way too many voters don't care how awful Trump is and voted for him. The voters are the problem, not the words.
DeleteUnless and until we start educating students about civics and poltical science, and start making sure our news and information sources provide reliable info, and engage in concerted efforts to re-educate Republican in particular, and stop thinking that what Trump does is cute, interesting or cool, we aren't going to have sound leadership in our country.
Instead, people are busy pointing fingers at Kamala (whose crime was to assume people are better than they are) and Biden, one of our best presidents ever, and humoring the right wing in its delusions.
Somerby is wrong. He thinks we haven't accommodated the right enough. I think we have gone to far and never defend anything that is correct, accurate, rational, informed or beneficial to our populace. Everyone seems to be chasing their own self-interest without a clear picture of what that consists of.
For example, look at Somerby stupid word play about papal bull. How does that help anything? It isn't even clever, just embarrassing (to him).
Somerby has not written a single word in defense of Gavin Newsom, who has done nothing justifying the attacks on him. He isn't even in charge of fighting the fire, being Gov instead of Mayor or Fire Chief.
When one finds themselves considering 'reeducation' of their political opponents, then maybe it’s time to reflect on whether they are truly listening.
DeleteWe should round up Republicans and put them in reeducation camps to teach them about the dangers of authoritarianism!
Delete@8:25 complains that "Everyone seems to be chasing their own self-interest." IMO the opposite is true. People are not chasing the own self-interest as much as they should. Look at places where CA spends large amounts of money:
DeleteDEI - which doesn't help the ordinary citizen
The High Speed Rail - which will not help us in our lifetimes, if ever
Homelessness - the spending is supposed to reduce homelessness. Instead, it's increasing.
Climate change. Any reduction in California's emissions will have an utterly negligible impact on California.
Without people educating themselves they will be unequipped to function in society without hurting themselves or others. I’m not talking about authoritarian brainwashing but reading, writing and a high school education in how our system works. Pretending I said anything else is trolling.
DeleteThere are a lot of right wing trolls at this blog nowadays. Nice job, Somerby.
DeleteDiC at 9:22: What is the gop solution to homelessness? More tax cuts for the wealthy? Cutting government services? Debtors’ prisons? Do they actually want to solve the problem?
Delete"DEI - which doesn't help the ordinary citizen"
DeleteThat ordinary citizen wouldn't happen to be a straight, white male, would it?
Any reduction in the number of illegal immigrants coming into this country will have an utterly negligible impact on the USA.
DeleteNow that you've read that statement on the internet, you can rest assured it's true.
DeleteIs LAFD chief really a dyke?
Ha-ha! Can any of you retarded Soros-bots deny that the Democrat party is quintessential shithead buffoonery?
7:33,
DeleteYes.
It's still not as mind-boggling as hiring a luggage-stealing freak-pervert the federal chief (deputy? same thing) of nuclear waste disposal.
DeleteAre the Democrats really brain-dead, or do they hate humanity? Or both?
8:02,Matt Gaetz called. He wants to know if you want the other 11-year old.
Delete8:02 Boebert has an extra theater ticket and if you bring the vape you’re welcome to it.
DeleteThe only thing that expresses the facts accurately is making a "bub-bub-bub-bub" sound by dragging your index finger over your lips.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that the dumbass hasn't suggested disrupting the fires by bombing the place.
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't be surprised that the NY Times lied or exaggerated. On Truth Social, Trump posted, "The fires are still raging in L.A. The incompetent pols have no idea how to put them out....They just can’t put out the fires. What’s wrong with them?" The Times mischaracterized this statement as "asking why the blazes were not yet extinguished." That would indeed be ridiculous, but it's not what Trump wrote.

Oh for Pete’s sake.
DeleteYour whole essence is wrapped up in defending this turd of a man, DiC, even to the point that f questioning a perfectly accurate paraphrase? You make yourself a turd when you do this. Shame on you.
Delete"The fires are still raging in L.A. The incompetent pols have no idea how to put them out...What’s wrong with them?"
DeleteWhat do you think Trump was asking, David?
Quaker- I don’t think Trump was asking. I think he was asserting that the pols are incompetent. But, claiming that they don’t know how to put the fires out is different from claiming they should have put the fires out already.
DeleteOf course Trump’s claim may have been false. The pols probably do know how to put the fires out. If the Times had merely questioned that statement’s accuracy they would’ve been on solid ground.
Trump's claim is ridiculous and beneath the dignity of a leader. Your reading of his statement is so tortured it should be considered a crime against words.
DeleteLet's take it a step at a time:
Delete1) The fires are still burning
2) The pols are incompetent
3) They don't know how to put them out
How do you not interpret this as saying that competent pols would know how to put the fires out and the fires would no longer be burning?
Or is this just more of Trump's rhetorical genius?
It is rhetorical exaggeration used to emphasize frustration. It's not a genuine question.
DeleteTrump makes statements like these because they resonate with audiences by offering a clear narrative (incompetence leads to failure). Whether you view this as "genius" depends on whether you prioritize rhetorical impact over factual nuance.
If anyone wants to know the outer boundaries of twisted logic of a MAGA, they need look no further. Jordan Peterson would marvel at this bizarre word parsing.
DeleteRhetoric, even hyperbolic, is a tool to focus public attention on urgent problems. Framing this as "twisted logic" depends on the political lens through which one views the statements. Trump benefits when his opponents spend time on subjective critiques of his rhetoric. It's a double win for him.
DeleteHave you tried calling Trump a Soros-bot after each of his statements? Perhaps that will work better.
DeleteAlternatively, we could just ignore the fool.
Trump is saying there is a border problem as a tool to focus on the problem of what he feels is the lack of bigotry against foreigners in our political campaigns.
DeleteCalling all Republican voters "bigots" is a tool used to focus public attention on the problem of Republican voters trying to overthrow the country when black people's votes count in elections.
DeleteThat those denying it can't identify even one Republican voter who isn't a bigot is the icing on the cake.
Don't forget Republicans also lost the House.
DeleteExtinguish and put out are synonymous.
DeleteQuaker — possible interpretations:
Delete1. If they knew how to put out the fire they would have made more progress
2. If they knew how to put out the fire, they would have explained their method and plan.
3. It could be a criticism made with no justification.
4. It could be true, but not just about the CA authorities. It’s sadly possible that nobody knows how to put out the fire, given the high winds, the dryness, and the available fuel. The fire might just continue uutil it burns itself out.
9:15 Also when Trump asks “What’s wrong with them?” He may be inquiring about what’s wrong with the fires. It is speculation that he is referring to the pols. He may also be saying, what’s wrong with the fires that they can’t be put out. You know, to use DiC’s razor sharp logic.
Delete5. It could be that the Times was correct.
DeleteLying to morons, like David in Cal, is political genius on Trump's part.
DeleteDemocrats need to rethink how they appeal to voters. It doesn't work to tell voters who are economically anxious that the economy is great and they are just racists.
ReplyDelete"Biden Leaves Office Less Popular Than Trump After January 6"
Deletehttps://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/biden-approval-rating-trump.html
Why do people dislike Biden so much?
1:51
Delete1) Four years of constant Benghazi style Republican hearings that went nowhere except to accomplish their goal.
2) Some, if not many Democrats view his actions as contributing to their loss and part of a scheme to shield them of his debility,.
3) Trump's base was unwavering in 2021 despite the many thousands of deaths his COVID lying resulted in.
That doesn't make as much sense as economic concerns, immigration policies and concerns about age and leadership abilities but perhaps.
Delete1:51 The outgoing president’s approval ratings are comparable to Richard Nixon, who resigned amid the Watergate scandal.
Delete1:51 Biden spent around 20 weeks out of the year lounging around on fancy vacations. This couldn't have helped him even though some of those vacation days could have been spent dealing with his age-related cognitive decline.
DeleteTrump tried to gaslight a global pandemic, like it was some New York Times political reporter.
DeleteLet's face it. Trump is a fucking moron, and no one would have ever heard of him, if it wasn't for the bigotry he gives Republican voters who crave it.
1:33,
DeleteHow will lying about who Republican voters are work better for Democrats?
You can tell Republican voters are economically anxious, because they tried to overthrow the government when Trump gave that huge tax break to the rich and corporations. Or am I confusing that with the time black people's votes counted in a presidential election?
DeleteIt's kind of surprising Biden is less popular now than Trump was after January 6. But Biden has been wildly unpopular most of his presidency.
DeleteWhy would January 6 make Trump less popular?
DeleteIt was a repellent event that offended Americans. And here is Biden being less popular than Trump at that timelllll; I can't answer why. People just didn't like him or Democrats I guess.
DeletePeople hate low Unemployment rates.
DeleteIt will be an interesting topic for Civil War historians like Heather Cox Richardson to explore. She may have some ideas why Biden was historically unpopular.
DeleteRepellent? And "offended"? Jeez. You're a pencil-pushing liberal, aren't you? Most of the ordinary people hate politicians, along with lawyer, bankers, bureaucrats. And they like rebels. It's not obvious to me how most people reacted to that event.
DeleteIt was very unpopular although some saw it as a worthy political statement. Mostly it was viewed as a repellent event that offended Americans. People may hate bankers but having unemployed redneck larpers overthrow their offices and act like jackasses in a way that yields no meaningful change would also be offensive.
DeleteIf they spent more time trying to make a living, and less time trying to overthrow an election because black people's votes were counted in it, they might not be so economically anxious.
Delete@9:03 AM, so say you, a liberal. Only 20-25% of the people are self-identified liberals. The election results contradict your story.
DeleteIncidentally, Bonnie and Clyde were unemployed rednecks, and they were criminals, and yet they were also American heroes. Go figure.
9:38 Yes, of course, draw your own conclusions about the matter. Neither of our opinions matter.

ReplyDeleteTDS is a serious mental illness. You need to see a specialist, Bob. Please find the "goodest" one, as you Democrats say, and hurry... Ah, never mind, forget it. Too late. Enjoy your brainlessness.
Yes, I did suspect that Donald Trump's landslide victory last November would destroy what little -- hardly anything! -- left of Democrat brain. And sure enough.
Sad.
Thermal Dynamic Sensors are killing us slowly.
DeleteIs David in Cal now the head of the Libertarian Party, or does it just seem like that due to all his crying out for Daddy Government to save him?
