Baying hounds seek justice: At the Fox News Channel, the knives are out for Dr. Fauci. The knives are out again.
The ghouls are running in the streets. On today's Outnumbered program, the increasingly arrogant Harris Faulkner can almost seem to be holding the rope in her hands, as recorded by Mediaite in this news report.
It's Dr. Fauci she wants to hunt down. He's scheduled to appear before a Senate committee tomorrow, and the hounds have been baying:
FAULKNER (7/28/26): I want to get to this point. I think we have been in our own sort of "republic evolution" long enough to figure out how to best punish officials when they hurt the public.
Do we all have to join a class-action lawsuit? Or is there a mechanism rather than a shamefest on Capitol Hill?
Because if nothing comes about, if we only elevate his status in the public even more, his ego is fed either way. He doesn’t care if you love him or hate him. He’s known. He’s "the most famous man in the world at one point."
He wasn’t saying people loved him. He said he was famous. I’m concerned that that’s what we’ll do.
We’ll cover it from stem to stern. Everybody wants to see the hearing. There’s going to be a lot of facts that are checked in that, and I love that.
But this man literally lied to us. Caused those of us who are responsible to the public to say what he was saying was true.
I take it professionally and personally that now we know more detail about that. It’s not enough to shame him on Capitol Hill for me. I want more. I want justice with this guy. I don’t know what that looks like.
That is astounding conduct on an increasingly dangerous "cable news" messaging entity. It's not enough for her!
Within the world of the Fox News Channel, the hunt for Fauci has become increasingly unhinged in the post-Covid years. For the record, the flyweight panel which accompanied Faulkner on today's program has little chance of being able to sift the science involved in this dangerous manhunt.
What they can do is read the clips in their producer's notes. Read, ingest, repeat!
Earlier today, Tom Durante posted a report about the manhunt chasing Fauci as it materialized on this morning's Fox & Friends. Durante's report started like this:
Fox Host Brian Kilmeade Tears into ‘Maniac’ Fauci: ‘We Knew He Was Lying’
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade ripped into Dr. Anthony Fauci on Tuesday, calling the former NIAID chief a “maniac” after the release of journal entries from the days of Covid-19 ravaging the world.
Kilmeade spoke out during Tuesday morning’s Fox & Friends, as the curvy couch reported on the 2020 journal entries revealed by Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), in which Fauci called himself “the most famous and talked about person” in America.
As F&F co-host Steve Doocy noted that “a lot of the stuff he wrote down was different than what he was telling us,” Kilmeade was ticked off.
“This guy’s a maniac,” Kilmeade said. “We knew he was lying. We knew he was changing his opinions and the statements and his policies per interview.”
As the report continues, Ainsley Earnhardt makes a groaning logical error about the alleged "lie" this trio of bloodhounds was chasing. Adding to the difficulty, Durante makes an additional error in his description of some typically truncated Fox News Channel video clips.
Given the multiple errors, the issues involved are too complex for simple examination in this format. But the hounds are baying at the Fox News Channel, and many of the hounds in question have no business being on any kind of national news program.
The so-called "democratization of media" has created this sprawling tribal nightmare. ("Every flyweight a king!") We've separated into warring tribes, and it looks like certain members of one of the tribes wouldn't necessarily mind seeing a bit of blood.
Faulkner is an increasingly arrogant mess. She wants some justice with this guy! She isn't quite sure what that looks like!

On balance, these matters are too complex to explain. The yahoos take over from there!

DeleteI remember when Somerby explained that a lie entailed knowledge of the truth and intent to deceive. Fauci did his best with incomplete knowledge in the face of a pandemic where action was urgently required. That is nothing at all like a lie. The people upset about Fauci are the same ones who fed their infected loved ones horse dewormer (ivermectin) and a quack cure touted by Republicans (hydrochloroquinine), neither of which was effective against the virus. People died because the right followed its quack scammers. If they are out for blood, they have the wrong target.
ReplyDeleteBut this is happening because the right is desperately trying to mobilize its base before the midterms and Fauci is a reliable target for right-wing hate. It has nothing to do with Fauci himself or Rand Paul of what Fauci said in his diary or anything else relevant to today's politics. This is Trump deflecting attention from himself to Democrats. The whole thing is very ugly, and very orchestrated.
Even Somerby is following those right wing talking points. He too is talking about Fauci, not to defend him but to throw his arms in the air and claim it is all too complicated and maybe the right has a point but who can figure it out -- democracy is to blame, according to Somerby. So, there is no point in any of us lefties protecting our right to vote when stinking democratization is BAD, Bad I tells you, and no one knows what's right or true (even though the science at this point supports Fauci).
This is yet another reason why I dislike Somerby! Fauci did an important job and no one cares whether he wrote something about being famous back then, he stepped up and helped the nation deal with covid. It was much more than Trump did. He was a good samaritan and doesn't deserve a lynch mob. Other doctors and nurses and technicians who sacrificed during covid became burned out and left the field of medicine. And who can blame them, when their patients were needlessly dying and their relatives were attacking and spitting on the hospital staff because they wouldn't provide those quack cures. It was an ugly time that no one wants to relive now.
Somerby is an asshole if this is the best defense he can offer Fauci and the truth. The problem isn't democratization but weak sisters like Somerby who have sold out to the right.
There has been some discussion that Lindsey Graham was being blackmailed by threats to reveal his sexual orientation. Perhaps Somerby is being blackmailed by his own past proclivities. It seems to be how the right rolls these days.

Fauci did heroic things to fight AIDS in the US and worldwide. He is justifiably lauded.
ReplyDeleteHowever he did sometimes put out public information about the source of Covid that was not fully accurate. He is a hero, but nobody’s perfect.
It would be more valuable for Bob to explain which Fauci statements were accurate and which were not, rather than just blast Fsuci’s critics.
The info Fauci put out about the source of covid is what most experts now agree upon. Fauci did not support right wing conspiracy theories but went with the science. Blaming someone who is a scientist for not going along with right wing conspiracy theories is unfair.
