MONDAY: Who will win those Senate seats?

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2026

There's a chance we might even find out: Who will win the (thirty-five) Senate seats at stake in tomorrow's elections? A new report by the New York Times reports the numbers from a final set of NYT/Siena polls:

Democrats Show Strength in Final Days of Race for the Senate, New Polls Find

Democrats are ahead of Republicans in almost all of the seven battleground states that will determine which party controls the Senate, according to the final set of polls from The New York Times and Siena University before the midterm elections.

The surveys found that Democrats hold sizable leads in Texas, which has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1988, and Kansas, which has not elected one since 1932.

To win a Senate majority, Democrats need to defend all the seats they currently hold and flip at least four seats that are currently held by Republicans. It has been seen as an uphill battle because many of the seats they need to win are in Republican strongholds.

But the new polls found Democratic candidates ahead in five states that now have Republican senators and effectively tied in a sixth. They hold leads in Kansas, Maine, Ohio and Texas and a narrow edge in Alaska. They are effectively tied in Iowa.

And so on from there.

Happy Days are here again! But only if the actual voting turns out that way tomorrow!

We humans! Endless time is being burned today with endless prognostication.  Of course, even the most recent polls are already out of date!

Meanwhile, who's gonna win those thirty-five seats?  If we can wait for one more day, there's a chance we might even find out!

  1. "Happy Days are here again!"

Are they actually paying you, when they control USAIDS slush fund, to call them "good decent persons"?

Nah. Say it ain't so Joe! I mean: Bob.
    ...never mind, just kidding...

  2. We Californians will not know our election results tomorrow night. Our election counts are routinely delayed in order to provide time to finagle results if that proves necessary.

We can see the effects when a delayed count yields a sudden spurt of Democratic votes, as happened in the LA Mayoral primary election.

    1. Yup. There is no way that can happen fucksticks. You live in a very blue state so unless the Dem candidate is very gross, they will win statewide elections. Also use 100% paper ballots that are used to confirm machine counts. Remember when Trump had the guy who surrendered to the Taliban investigate the 3M votes he lost to Hillary in CA? After a couple months they slinked away with nothing. Give it up bitch. Also I didn't miss your dum ass, dumass.

    3. David in California has Zero critical thinking skills. "In Los Angeles County, 51.06% of registered voters are Democrats, 18.69% are Republicans, 23.39% are independents (No Party Preference), and the remaining 6.86% are split among minor parties like American Independent, Green, Libertarian, and Peace & Freedom." Dems have to cheat to win and n LA, sure Jan.

    4. @4:07 - The Republican was not trying to win. He was trying to come in second in an open primary, so as to be a part of the final election. He was running against 2 Dems who split the Dem vote.

Also, the incumbent Dem Mayor had done a particularly bad job of governing. Also the Rep won the debates.

    5. D in C - you've swallowed the Kool Aid in one big gulp. I, personally, don't care for it when anyone makes a claim like California (or anywhere else) "finagles the votes" without any evidence. Speculation isn't evidence, especially from someone who is utterly partisan, and your speculation here is at a conspiracy theory level.

      You've convinced me, David!

    11. David is lying. While he writes this tripe he is laughing like the cartoon dog Muttley. He doesn’t believe there is any finagling going on. He doesn’t believe this because he knows that if it were true the evidence would be ringing in his ears it would be repeated so frequently by his limited, biased news sources. He knows that these people have left no stone unturned trying to find this evidence and have failed. He knows that he and his ilk are a significant minority in the state where he resides. He is lying because he is aping his morbidly obese orange hero who has lied in his face with great success over 50,000 times. And he is lying because, sadly, he has allowed all decency and morals to be drained from him by the degenerate scoundrels he follows.

    12. Somerby says: "If we can wait for one more day, there's a chance we might even find out!"

Why say something that way? It gives support to David's complaint that when it takes time to count ballots it is because of finagling, and not because the mail-in ballots of servicemen overseas need time to be counted, or because signatures are being checked -- security precautions not "finagling."

Somerby pretends he would have voted for El-Sayed then he joins David's campaign to invalidate the legitimate ballots cast in California and other blue states.

Why disparage the efforts of hard-working poll workers and other election staff? Unless Somerby has some reason for being snide, his tone is beyond annoying, damaging to the integrity and faith in our election system,.

    13. Somerby has to know that the press announces projections of winners based on statistics long before the actual ballots are fully counted. Those states that are called for one candidate or another are never changed once called, not in my lifetime. If there is uncertainty, they wait to project a winner. The only thing we wait for are the occasional too-close-to-call results and the final totals.

    14. David says: "Also, the incumbent Dem Mayor had done a particularly bad job of governing. "

She is now tied with a local LA activist who is a Democratic Socialist. I supposed David is badmouthing Bass because he hopes the progressive will win instead?

The Republican who ran is a MAGA nutcase with no chance given CA demographics. But it surprises me that David thinks the person least deserving is the more moderate incumbent. Another reason to suspect he doesn't actually live anywhere in CA.

    15. Today in front of the reflecting pool: “… tremendous algae problems. Do you have that picture with the algae?” Please show me the photo, Mr. President so I can say with confidence that you have all the right priorities on the eve of the midterms. You fixed the algae problem! Possibly the most courageous leader in my lifetime.

    16. “…finagle results…” says the MAGAt who voted for Trump after January 5, the false electors, Trump’s call to Raffenberger, etc.,etc.,etc. And of course 0 evidence that voter fraud has turned any election. Fucking loser.

  3. Trump has fucked the GOP for many years to come.

The only hope Republicans have is to pass something big that people like, like Medicare For All.

Otherwise, they will be stuck in the doghouse for quite a while.

  4. "Happy Days are here again! But only if the actual voting turns out that way tomorrow!"

Somerby is perhaps stating this a bit too partisanly to fit the reality in the face of defections from Trump's own party. The tide is turning within the Republican party, not just in terms of which party is likely to win tomorrow.

And the real work begins after the election. There will be no happy days while Trump remains in office. Job #1 is to impeach and remove Trump. There is a lot of damage to undo, which remains in place until Congress acts. The mere letters D after an electee's name isn't going to change anything without a lot of work by the new members. And don't forget that these people will not take office until next January. A lot can still happen between tomorrow and the new year.

Dancing in the street will be premature.

  5. Somerby deserves no credit for any Democratic victories tomorrow. He has done nothing to advance the various candidates who might win, especially the ones he denigrated here by posting right wing propaganda (without rebuttal), including Amy Acton, Josh Turek, Mohammed El-Sayed, Mary Peltola, Jon Ossoff, James Talarico.

Obviously, Somerby will not be voting for any of them. But neither did he urge people to get out and vote Democratic anywhere else. So he can tell any lie he wants about who he might have voted for, if he had lived in a different state.

      Other than that, great comment.

  6. Somerby asks about the Senate seats, but the House seats are just as important because the House must indict the president by voting on articles of impeachment before the Senate can vote to remove Trump. It may seem like the House has nothing to do with anything, but that is only because the Republicans stalled all constructive activity to prevent Congress from reining in Trump. It will be different with a Democratic House majority.
