He puts a smile on your face: Every night, at the end of the 9 o'clock hour, Sea Hannity signs off in the way he did last night:
That's all the time we have left. In the meantime, let not your heart be troubled. Greg Gutfeld is standing by to put a smile on your face.
Last night, Gutfeld opened with a string of his typical jokes.
His third joke dealt with President Biden wetting his pants. His fourth joke pictured President Biden mispronouncing the name of the country Niger.
His fifth joke concerned the topic of how annoying women are when men try to watch TV. Soon, though, he got to the kicker:
GUTFELD (3/18/24): A woman who identifies as a dog made headlines after appearing on an Australian radio show.
[PHOTO OF VERY YOUNG WOMAN WITH CAPTION, "I identify as a dog."]
That's nothing, though! In America, we have five dogs who identify as women on a TV show!
Up popped a picture of the five co-hosts of The View, producing [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE].
Get it? The five co-hosts are the dogs who identify as women!
This is the way this 59-year-old "poor immigrant" puts a smile on viewers' faces every weekday evening. He grew up in San Mateo and attended Serra High, right down the Alameda from our own Aragon High.
We've asked our question before:
How does someone from such a sunny land end up with such a crabbed, angry soul? We're only noting a tiny portion of the way Gutfeld and Watters behave on their weeknight programs, which are marketed as part of primetime "cable news."
How does a person get that way? Dylan recommended pity for such "poor immigrants," and we second that assessment.
How did Gutfeld get that way? Also, why is he on the air?
"How did Gutfeld get that way? Also, why is he on the air?"
ReplyDeleteIt's very simple. Mr. Murdoch pays him well to act this way on the air.
Somerby, just asking stupid questions.
DeleteBecause it’s a day of the week.
DeleteBased on a very few minutes watching The View, I thought it was a parody show mocking women.
ReplyDeleteWe think you're a parody show mocking actuaries.
DeleteDic thinks criticizing Netanyahu is anti Semitic.
DeleteDavid is trying to make Jewish people look hateful, but it’s not working.
Delete@7:58 wrote, "Dic thinks criticizing Netanyahu is anti Semitic." I sure do. Here's why
Delete1. Criticism of Netanyahu is really criticism of Israel. There is overwhelming support among Israelis for totally defeating Hamas. Netanyahu's policy is simply Israel's policy. If Netanyahu were gone, the policy would not change.
2. Criticism of Israel is based on a big double standard. Israel's efforts to protect Palestinian civilians are remarkable, as compared with other wars. Critics of Netanyahu should be praising him for his efforts to protect civilians. See "Israel believes that it has killed two Palestinian civilians for every Hamas militant in its intense campaign to eliminate the armed group from the Gaza Strip, a ratio an IDF spokesperson described to CNN Monday as “tremendously positive.”" https://edition.cnn.com/2023/12/05/middleeast/israel-hamas-military-civilian-ratio-killed-intl-hnk/index.html
3. Critics of Israel, including President Biden, repeat Hamas statistics as if they were credible. Past Hamas data has never been reliable, as Israel's critics well know. Why do they repeat anti-Israel allegations they know are unreliable?
4. A double standard is bigotry. I recall when the women's movement made that point: the standards for women in the workplace were more onerous than the standards for men. We all understood that this double standard constituted discrimination against women.
5. Thus, the double standard against the Jewish Homeland constitutes discrimination against Jews.
If Joy Behar wore as much makeup and hair spray as Donald Trump you might find her attractive.
DeleteUnamused, yes.
DeleteDIC nothing you wrote substantiates your unproven claim that criticism of Netanyahu/Israel is anti semitic.
DeleteIt seems you do not know what that term even means.
Netanyahu is criticized for helping put Hamas in place and propping them up, so that when the militant wing attacks Israel, Netanyahu can than respond by murdering tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians, half of whom are children.
Only a psychotic person supports Netanyahu.
"Criticism of Netanyahu is really criticism of Israel." Why those self - loathing Iraelis, the majority of whom would vote him out of office.
DeleteUnamused -- Two responses:
Delete1. It's fact that the Israelis elected Netanyahu. It's speculation or guess that they would vote him out of office if another election were held now.
2. Specific criticism looks very different when done by someone within or without the group. If a black person criticized MLK for, say, infidelity. That would be one thing. But, if a white person criticized MLK, even for a valid flaw, that would be interpreted as racism.
Netanyahu will end up in prison. Where deserves to be. Where he deserves to die. He was already headed there before all this happened.
Delete"Criticism of Biden is really criticism of the United States." What an ignorant statement that would be. Your other argument that criticism of Netanyahu from within Israel is to be construed as different than that levied by outsiders is interesting. You appear to have the inside track on the thought processes of people you know nothing about. Your MLK reference is bizarre. The analogy here is that it is valid to call an outsider who is anti-Netanyahu anti-Israel, just as one would call a Caucasian referencing MLK's infidelities racist. Since this is not the first time you have used MLK's infidelities as a theme in comments, let me ask two questions: 1) are you white, and 2) if so, where does your argument place you?
DeleteAnd if you want to next argue that it would be wrong to label a white guy referencing MLK's infidelities as a racist, well that is checkmate against your original argument.
DeleteUnamused — Touché!
DeleteDIC is a racist DIC
DeleteDavid in Cal,
DeleteGod bless the Jewish people.
Also, fuck Israel.
@8:04 Suppose you amend your comment to replace the word “Jewish” with “black” and “Israel” with “Africa”. Would it not be racist?
DeleteAfrica is a continent. Has the government of the continent of Africa committed war crimes? The Prime Minister of Israel has.
DeleteOTOH, I do see how saying "God bless the black people" would look racist to the American Right. Point taken.
David in Cal is not a racist. That's why he was such a big supporter of the Idi Amin regime.
DeleteA comparison to cats is more apt.
ReplyDeleteDo they catch mice?
DeleteNo. They just run off the token conservative panelists.
DeleteUsually doesn't take much to run them off.
DeleteThere is no greater snowflake than a right winger.
DeleteAnonymouse 7:13pm, it’s four panelists to one.
DeleteHell yeah, you are undoubtedly correct. They’ve gotten some weak conservatives.
“Weak conservatives”… there’s no other kind, dipshit.
DeleteAnonymouse 9:23pm, you’re only making your chest sore.
DeleteLet the eagle soar!
DeleteRepublicans are so fucking creepy.
In America, if you make a Yakov Smirnoff-style joke, you're a poor immigrant. In Australia, if you're a poor immigrant, you're a joke.
ReplyDeleteBest fake Yakov Smirnoff joke:
Delete"In Soviet Russia, government owns banks. In America, banks own government."
It's funny, because it's true.
The compromise used to be conservatives could complain as much as they wanted on Fox as long as the Simpsons could make fun of them. Now Fox treats their in-house political commentary as the balance.
ReplyDeleteI doubt Gutfeld writes his own jokes.
ReplyDeleteThis is what passes for humor among conservatives.
Has Somerby stopped calling such jokes "misogyny-adjacent"? There is nothing adjacent about this stuff -- it is pure misogyny. Perhaps Somerby doesn't want to admit that misogyny exists?
From IndieWire, "Gutfeld’s writing staff is smaller than most traditional late-night talk shows. He’s got some known comedians, including Nick DiPaolo and Joe DeVito, as well as longtime producer Tom O’Connor. Senior producer is Arash Mosaleh; Joe Machi is also on the writing staff."
Delete"He grew up in San Mateo and attended Serra High, right down the Alameda from our own Aragon High."
ReplyDeleteWhy does it matter where he grew up? Everyone has to go to high school somewhere.
Bob was an inhabitant and familiar to the culture of the area.
DeleteDo anonymices find it salient that for all Bob’s love of the San Fran Bay Area, he stayed in Baltimore with his students?
Edgar Allan Poe went there.
DeleteHe abandoned his students for the glamorous life of a stand up comedian, you dumbass.
DeleteSomerby didn’t live in the bay area. He lived in silicon valley before high tech. There is no evidence he liked it much.
DeleteAnonymouse 9:22pm, you mean he took over his father’s business.
DeleteSomerby pretended to be a comedian, not dissimilar from how you pretend to be a woman.
DeleteIt’s a performance to mask the emptiness felt by wounded souls.
You’re not misogyny adjacent, you are misogyny personified.
Bob likes it when you say that.
DeleteGood. Then it will be repeated.
Delete"How does a person get that way? Dylan recommended pity for such "poor immigrants," and we second that assessment."
ReplyDeleteGutfeld is not an immigrant. I get tired of Somerby using the word "immigrant" to besmirch the reputations of people who have actually immigrated to our country by choice, instead of being born into clueless Republican families.
You can bet that Bob Dylan was not referring to Greg Gutfeld when he wrote his song lyrics. Some of us used to like that song before Somerby ruined it by giving it tainted political allusions.
If Somerby thought of this song whenever he felt antsy about the border, he wouldn't be so frightened by right wing propaganda and Katie Britt's 20-year old sex trafficking stories. Does Somerby understand that men in those stories are the "Johns" whereas it is the women who are being forced to have sex? It is almost as if he thinks some cartel is coming to force him into slavery.
Actually, in an interview in Songwriter Magazine last fall, Dylan said that he was referring to Greg Gutfeld when he wrote those song lyrics.
DeleteGutfeld wasn't born yet when Dylan wrote those lyrics.
DeleteGutfeld was born in 1964. Dylan released Poor Immigrant in 1967.
DeleteDylan is a Nobel laureate.
DeleteHe also sold his catalogue for $300,000,000.
DeleteDylan is a born again Christian.
DeleteObjectively, his music is underwhelming; those that appreciate Dylan, do so mostly for nostalgia and cultural reasons.
Which is fine, more power to them, but Lordy, there’s way better music to listen to.
Anonymouse 10:15pm, agreed. Ive never been one to be deterred by $300,000,000 via liberal idiots either.
DeleteTony Bobulinski said the same thing this week.
DeleteLord knows the same for Hunter Biden.
DeleteBobulinski's uncle played 24 string bass on an album with David Bromberg and Bob Dylan.
Delete10:15 Since you are into this hierarchical appreciation of music, i.e. Bob Dylan vs the world here, I would agree that there is better music than some of his, as can be said for virtually any popular songwriter. His contemporaries considered his songwriting great. His place in American music was not nostalgic in the 70's. "Like a Rolling Stone" is considered one of the best rock and roll songs ever written and placed number one on a Rolling Stone survey of music critics. You are entitled to your opinion, but not to categorize those who don't share it.
DeleteOh Cecilia, your breaking my heart: Trump's son in law, mideast peace dude, with Security Clearance not from normal channels but approved by his corrupt FIL pocketed $2B from KSA, about a billion from Qatar to cover the note on his 666 Manhattan disaster investment (paid under duress while the commander in chief dissed Qatar who was fighting a proxy war against KSA and UAE while we had about 14,000 troops stationed in Qatar FFS), and about $300M from UAE. I mean now seriously, WTF you talking about how horrible Biden's boy pocketing a few ten's of millions from them foreigners?
DeleteEven a discussion of Dylan makes Cecelia think of Hunter Biden. It’s a sickness.
DeleteThe Kushner money was an investment that has to be repaid. The Hunter and James Biden money was a bribe. Straight, free cash money to buy crack etc.with.
DeleteInvestments have to be repaid? I need to have a talk with my stock broker. Jackass.
DeleteNot to mention the fact that Jared collects 100's of millions $$$ as "management fees" every fucking year. Who the fuck do you think you're fooling, magat?
The difference between the Kushner moneyn and the Jim and Hunter money is the Kushner money was for an investment. The Biden money was for a foreign influence peddling operation— for shady operators from China to Ukraine and elsewhere—who were seeking to gain influence and access to Joe Biden and the United States government. One was legit and the other was Insanely unethical and corrupt. That's why they're lying about it.
DeleteDo you understand now the difference, freedom loving American??
8:00 Biden is a very unethical and corrupt politician and a sleazy, horrible human. Did Rawstory not tell you?
DeleteThat mf sponsored the 1994 crime bill, causing mass incarceration of blacks. That's just the start.
Hey magat, do you understand that there is no evidence of influence peddling? Hunter never worked in the government. Kushner was given the mideast portfolio when he was rammed down our throats. Do you understand that investments can lose as well as earn. Do you undertand that besides SA and Qatar, noboby else invested in Kushner's startup company? Do you understand that Kushner gets hundreds of millions management fees every fucking year, magat. Whether the investments go up or down, Kushner gets his fucking money. Year after year after year.
DeleteTrump's regime was so corrupt with nepotism that when the bone saw Saudi prince gifted his fledgling hedge fund a 2 billion dollar investment against the advice of his financial advisors, not a single MAGA eye blinked.
DeleteThank you for all of that insight about Kushner and management fees.
DeleteIf Trump's regime and/or Kushner did something unkosher vis-Ã -vis Qatar and/or Saudi Arabia, surely there would've been 10,000 active lawsuits against them already?
DeleteBut if you DNC bots think you know something, call the cops, by all means.
10:17 - what you don't seem to fathom is that Kushner is collecting management fees.
DeleteThe crime bill was necessary. Incarceration was necessary. The crime rate was high then because of leaded gasoline. There’s now less crime because lead was phased out in the 1970s.
Delete8:20: why didn’t you mention that the mf was against busing in the 1970’s. What a racist, amirite?
DeleteCrime also came down in the 90's because the social insurance system working, things like food stamps being held a bit more constant than before.
DeleteThey don't teach this at Harvard.
. "Each additional year of Food Stamp Program availability in early childhood reduces the likelihood of a criminal conviction in young adulthood by 2.5 percent, with stronger effects for violent and felony convictions."
jhr.uwpress.org/content/early/2021/04/05/jhr.58.3.0619-10276R2.abstract
10:47 So what is your point?
DeleteSorry about my post above. I misread your intent about discussing the management fees.
DeleteManagement fees are why the hedge fund industry exists. The turnover of hedge funds due to failure is impressive, they have less than 10% viabilty. Felix Salmon (economist) did a study of the hedge fund industry as a whole a number of years ago and found that investors paid out much more in management fees than they made in profits. For the time span he studied, which was over a decade, hedge fund cost to investors was circa 440 billion dollars more than their investments paid out. With a few notable exceptions like Ray Dalio and the like, hedge funds are generally a scam on rich people, and the American public for their tax rates.
DeleteKushner gets management fees year after year. Therefore the tens of millions of free cash Jim and Hunter Biden took in from China wasn't sleazy influence peddling. It was for their hard work and expertise.
DeleteBobulinski, who is (again) next up to bat after the star witness/Russian colluder fell out of the line up for Comer, should have completed his 15 minutes of stardom in 2020 after a reporter for Fox News, of all places, went through all of the emails he said were evidence against Biden and summarized that there was nothing there. Later on Bubo told the authorities that he had three cell phones worth of text messages that bore out his accusations, but when he was ask to supply them to copy the texts he of course refused. So stepping up to the plate is a player who has struck out twice. And this is their cleanup hitter?
DeleteHas Somerby delved into Gutfeld’s home life? Maybe his mother was distant, or something. Apparently, Somerby can’t imagine anyone simply being Gutfeld. (Somerby is disingenuous).
ReplyDeleteA small check on big and unaccountable government:
ReplyDeletehttps://jabberwocking.com/no-fly-victim-wins-limited-victory-in-the-supreme-court/
It’s more a check on right wingers who have infiltrated government and engage in corrupt behavior.
DeleteDonald Trump says Jews who vote for Democrats hate their religion.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of us say that Americans voting for Republicans hate the USA (and themselves, obviously).
Keep the goy calling himself an ally away from Palestine
DeleteBiden and Trump are happy to watch Jews become murderers then apologize to "Muslim Americans" for 30k murdered Palestinians.
DeleteWhen AIPAC plays tough with its voters thats called "being pro-Israel" and when people vote against Democrats who support the genocide of Palestinians that's called "being against Israel."
DeleteVote for Republicans who support the genocide of Palestinians.
DeleteBiden is a Christian Nationalist who is killing people in Palestine
DeleteThe genocide is being carried out by the US and Israel regardless of who is elected. That's the rule. Just don't gloat about it too much to the goys.
DeleteToday’s Republicans are much worse than Bush.
DeleteIf you're not aware that Biden is a psychopath who for asking for 14 billion dollars in weapons then I can't help you.
DeleteStop electing Democrats who let people make money off genocide.
DeleteBeing against genocide is a human value, not a feisty left-wing issue.
DeleteYou should be against the genocide of Palestinians regardless of whether the Republican party exists. Are you insane?
Delete11:12: The Republican Party is all in on Palestinian genocide. Haven’t you heard?
DeleteThe genocide is happening under a Democrat already, haven't you heard?
DeleteIt’s happening under Netanyahu.
DeletePresidents have to maintain a delicate balance. Israel is still an ally, but public support here has dropped. Just witness Schumer’s speech. Schumer was one of the most outspoken supporters of Israel in the senate. It’s a major shift. A major change in policy takes time and persuasion.
DeleteIsrael is operating siege warfare tactics like the US did in Afghanistan, both resulting in famines.
DeleteHere is AIPAC tearing up photographs of the genocide, literally:
https://www.instagram.com/middleeasteye/reel/C4ddxJLPie5/
That’s why Schumer and Biden, among others, are speaking out.
DeleteWhy do Democrats only elect people who can speak out against genocide "delicately"?
DeleteI dunno. Ask them. At least they are speaking out on behalf of the Palestinians. Meanwhile, Republicans and Trump express 100% support for Netanyahu. Deal with that how you will.
Delete"It has become a macabre ritual for Blinken to feign sorrow for the dead children of Gaza while simultaneously circumventing Congress to expedite the “emergency” shipment of weapons to a government whose public officials and lawmakers have spent the past three months openly declaring their intent to annihilate Gaza as a Palestinian territory. "
DeleteIsn't it past Biden's jail time?
DeleteThe lawsuit, filed in November in the Northern District of California, asks the court to enjoin President Biden, Secretary of State Blinken, and Secretary of Defense Austin from providing weapons and other forms of support for Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. The administration has sent more than one hundred arms shipments to Israel since October 7 and continues to provide weapons without conditions, even as an emerging famine kills even more children in Gaza.
https://ccrjustice.org/home/press-center/press-releases/biden-gaza-genocide-case-constitutional-and-international-law
I still maintain that the Democrats are the best hope for the Palestinians. You may disagree and continue to post this stuff.
DeleteI also believe there are a lot of other compelling reasons to prefer Biden over Trump.
DeleteBiden is giving up support for Israel's genocide of Palestinians at the pace that meth heads give up the pipe.
DeleteTrump is actually more humble in his corruption than Biden. He wants to win the election to have impunity. Biden wants impunity over Gaza before the election.
DeleteA liberal is someone who watches Hotel Rwanda but doesn't know that the bullets were manufactured by Israel.
DeleteBiden hates Palestinians with the jealousy of Sarah and is no friend of any synagogue's true worship of the truth of Hashem.
DeleteThou shalt not kill
DeleteThou shalt not steal
Do not return like a wall
If Jews and Muslims created a socialist third party, white middle class people would say they'd join it in 50 years but now's not the time.
DeleteWhy is Trump the Republican nominee?
ReplyDeleteJust sayin, I love the John Westley Harding Album too but Bob's illusion to the Dylan song doesn't make much sense and never has.
ReplyDeleteWishing Fox's sad sins away will not make them vanish. They will be there until they stop making money, and that will only happen when Bob's good friends and neighbors don't want to buy them anymore.
he's on the air because there are a ton of americans out there that are jerks and find his low class humor funny
ReplyDeleteWhy are annoying white Catholics the only people with media degrees in America? Hmm it's a big mystery. Maybe someone with a professional history degree could explain it. But beats me.
ReplyDeleteWhite Catholicism is a mysterious faith.
DeleteIn a Communist country you would take this media/managerial class of people and give them roles of promoting the party line. In America they are this fake edgy political shit.
DeleteI think the commenter who said that the Kushner money was an investment that will need to be repaid may be closer to the truth than even he knows.
ReplyDelete
