Something is wrong with Trump: Back then, something was wrong with President Biden.
Over here in Blue America, large segments of the population 1) couldn't discern that fairly obvious fact, or 2) chose not to talk about it.
Today, something rather plainly is wrong with President Trump. (That has been true all along.)
Over there in Red America, large segments of the population have sworn their sacred honor not to mention that fairly obvious fact. That includes all the messenger children employed by the Fox News Channel, from Gutfeld and Tyrus on down.
Something was wrong with President Biden. Something is wrong with President Trump.
There is one major difference:
Under current arrangements, large segments of Blue America have joined forces with those messenger children. They have agreed that they must never center this fairly obvious ongoing question:
What the f*ck—what the Sam Hill—is wrong with President Trump?
Over here in Blue America, the finer people who still lead good lives have agreed that they mustn't ask! As they maintain their strategic silence, a large, well-known modern nation is rapidly falling apart.
What the freak is wrong with President Trump? Why does he continue to say the craziest things?
Why is his conduct so absurdly erratic? What explains his endless rage? What the f*ck is wrong with this man?
Is he lying when he makes his crazy claims, or is he incompetent in some way which needs to be explored? By now, that's a blindingly obvious question. But within Blue America's finer orgs, no one is going to ask.
After Memorial Day has come and gone, we're going to try to clarify the nature of this failure to serve. To Red America, but also to our own Blue America, we're going to offer this simple directive:
You have a citizen's duty.
We Blues were deceived in a hundred ways on route to last year's election defeat. At present, our neighbors and friends in Red America are being deceived, around the clock, by the tools on the Fox News Channel.
(Presumably, some of those tools don't know that they're tools. Presumably, some of them do.)
At present, our neighbors and friends in Red America are being deceived around the clock. David Brooks won't talk about this. In full fairness, neither will Rachel Maddow, and neither will anyone else.
All of us, Red and Blue, are being grossly misled. In theory, each of us has a citizen's duty—but in what does that duty consist?
Something was wrong with President Biden. Something (presumably, something different) is wrong with President Trump. (As we've said, that strikes us as a human tragedy—as a tragic loss of human potential.)
That said, what exactly is wrong with President Trump? In our view, David Brooks has a citizen's duty to step forward and center that question. If he has to speak to (carefully chosen) medical specialists, that's what he'll just have to do.
(It wouldn't hurt if Nicholas Kristof went ahead and did the same thing.)
When in the world will David Brooks accept his duty as a citizen? When will the silent lambs of our highest elites at long last agree to serve?
ReplyDelete"Something is wrong with Trump: Back then, something was wrong with President Biden. "
When you feel something is wrong with everything and everyone around you, chances are something's wrong with you, Bob.
"What the freak is wrong with President Trump? Why does he continue to say the craziest things?"
Yes, the craziest things, like that there are only two genders, that people's gender is the gender they were born with, and that judging people by their skin color is idiotic. Totally crazy. So, louder, squeal louder, Bob. That's the ticket.
It would be considered crazy to believe that a parent could send a child to school in the morning and have them return as a different gender in the afternoon. It is also pretty crazy to believe there is such a thing as an after-birth abortion. Judging people by their skin color IS idiotic.
DeleteYour logical flaw here is thinking that is someone thinks one thing non-idiotic then everything they think must be non-idiotic. Trump thinks that magnets don't work when they get wet. If he believes that dogs bark at strangers (they mostly do), that doesn't make his belief about magnets any less idiotic.
Once again, conservatives try to turn their own faults back on others. Greedy pigs squeal, not blog writers. Republicans are a bunch of greedy pigs and the greediest of them all is Donald Trump. Whatever else he is, Somerby doesn't appear to be motivated by avarice the way Trump and MAGA are.
DeleteYou’re not naive, Bob. You know that Tapper is targeting Trump as soon as he and his media colleagues have completely reinterpreted their role in the Biden scandal. In fact, he’s already starting to shift in that direction.
ReplyDeleteTapper has committed journalistic malpractice in the name of money. That suggests he is capable of anything because he is apparently not constrained by ethics.
DeleteAnonymouse 12:00pm, the media is not bound by ethical standards. They're primarily influenced by industry appearances and then by their political fervor.
DeleteThe field of journalism has ethical standards that are taught to journalism students:
Deletehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journalism_ethics_and_standards
Anonymouse 12:43pm, and anonymices have/had parents who tried to teach them right from wrong, but they didn’t listen and became anonymices anyway.
DeleteWe bots don't have parents. We have The Big Father, Mr. Soros.
DeleteSomerby is an ass.
I am Corby.
@1:12, you are obviously confused about who your father is, which leads to confusion about who you are too. Whoever you are, you are not Corby. Your comments are too short for that. Somerby is an ass but he is probably not your father.
DeleteConservatives have silly ideas about gender:
ReplyDelete"Fox News fuckface: “Jesse Watters says men should not drink out of straws in public — or at all.”
Rep. Tim Burchett: “I don’t drink out of a straw, brother. that’s what the women in my house do.” [via
Tiedrich]
Straws were invented in 400 BCE by Egyptians who wanted to drink beer and other liquids, avoiding dirt and sediment. They have been found in most cultures.
This is as silly as ball tanning. But why would men want to draw a line between men and women? Because it supports patriarchy -- notions of male privilege and female submission.
Are you one of those fake men who eat quiche? I am. I love a fluffy cheesy quiche. On the other hand, that green M&M gal in high heels sent a thrill up my leg. Flats, not so much.
DeleteQuaker- Regarding the ACLU opposing free speech see https://www.thecollegefix.com/mit-allows-event-criticizing-gender-transitioning-to-proceed-despite-protest/
ReplyDeleteThis got discussed to death yesterday. Please don't fill the comments with this crap again today.
DeleteI saw that yesterday, David. The writer makes the assertion without providing verifiable evidence.
DeleteThe writer of that article is a fringe right-winger, writing for a partisan outlet. I'm looking for some other source to verify his claim.
Now I'm curious, David.
DeleteYou posted a link to that same story yesterday, and I replied thusly:
Other than the College Fix article, I can't find any mention of the ACLU "lobbying to cancel the event."
Any help?
Today, you respond with a link to the very same article? Why did you do that?
My mistake, Sorry. I had just noticed that ACLU had a chance to respond and did not take that opportunity to deny their involvement.
Delete"ACLU had a chance to respond and did not take that opportunity to deny their involvement."
DeleteThat's weak.
Conservatives may or may not have silly ideas.
ReplyDeleteIdiot-Democrats definitely have no sense of humor whatsoever.
I'll inform Conan O'Brien and Seth Meyers and Steven Colbert.
DeleteMeanwhile, the View is being told to knock off the Trump jokes because he doesn't like them. I'd guess he's the one with no sense of humor. (You're the puppet...)
I find Tiedrich and Borowitz very funny. Gutfeld not so much. Somerby is never funny, which is odd for a former standup comedian.
Biden jokes a lot in his public appearances, even heckling his hecklers at the State of the Union speech. People say that Trump is funny, but I find him mean-spirited. Maybe that is the source of @12:29's confusion about humor. Conservatives laugh when Trump mocks the disabled, for example. Is that really humor or just bullying?
Cecelia writes things she thinks are funny but they are usually crass or callous. Clearly opinions differ about what is funny, but the Mark Twain award for humor has gone to more Democrats than Republicans, especially if you include Twain himself.
Hurting people isn't funny.
DeleteCecelia amuses himself here by pretending to be a woman, let's not lean into that.
DeleteAnonymouse 1:8pm, “…let’s not lean into that” now THAT’S funny!
DeleteIt is not.
Delete1:42 your comment is a weird self-own, which is 1:08's point.
I guess 1:08 can thank you for driving home their point. Good job!
Anonymouse 1:48pm, if you leaned any further into your insistence that I’m a man, you be stumbling on my uterus.
DeleteSorry Cecelia, nobody is buying your nonsense.
DeleteYou just make yourself look foolish.
Anonymouse 2:14pm, speak up, your voice is muffled and your tickling me.
DeleteTalking about a uterus as if it were a dangly external appendage that could be stumbled on, instead of an internal organ deep within one's body, reflects a male view of anatomy, not the way women tend to think about their female parts. Along with your penetrating language, which you consider funny. I've never heard an actual woman make that kind of joke.
DeleteAnonymouse 2:27pm, understandable. You’ve never been around regular women. Just covens.
DeleteNow you sound desperate. Calling a woman a witch is not typical language when women feud. The word is bitch. You cannot write spontaneously without revealing yourself for what you are. Freud understand that word choice is a pathway to the subconscious. You don't know how to pretend to be a woman because you are not a woman. Maybe if you were smarter, or spoke English as your native language, but you can't help outing yourself.
Deleteunderstood
DeleteAnonymouse 2:42pm, I’m not calling you a coven, I’m saying you’re a part of a coven. You’re one of several members.
DeleteAnonymouse 2:43pm, of course you understood. You like her telling me how a real woman would think and what real women are supposed to say. Coincidentally…all those things she mentions that I should or shouldn’t be saying, only serve her purposes. That might be great for blogboard Soros-bots, but it’s misogynistic to the core.
Delete"understood" is a typo correction since Freud is deceased and should be referred to in past tense
DeleteFreuded.
DeleteLook at the heap of garbage you spouted toward someone you completely misunderstood.
Delete"now, let’s listen to the sound of the wind as it whistles through Maria Baritromo’s empty head.
ReplyDelete“should we really have wind and solar subsidies in this bill? what if it’s not windy? what if it’s not sunny?”...
you really have to admire MAGA’s commitment to ignorance. just because Dear Leader doesn’t understand how batteries work, the entire wingnut outrage-industrial complex has to go on live TV and beclown themselves by parroting the stupidest shit imaginable.
how is it not a cult?" [Tiedrich]
So, when Leavitt repeats Trump's stupidity and refuses the invitation to contradict what Trump says, of course she avoids saying anything that would overtly contradict or embarrass Trump. That is her job, not press secretary. She covers for Trump and spreads the talking points so that other MAGAts know what to say on various issues. Fox serves the same purpose. It would be horrible if a cult member accidentally said something true that contradicts Trump's gibberish. They might even lose their seat at the table or be fire or excluded from CPAC. A lot is at stake for Trump's toadies.
Somerby chides Gutfeld and others without having the faintest idea why they are doing what they do.
And no, there are not any new kind of human beings coming over any wall. Somerby's stupidities are just as gross and ridiculous as those on the right (which I tend to believe he is part of anyway).
Anonymouse 11:50am, I, for one, applaud Bob in taking the courageous step in forcing the Democratic leadership to bench Biden. He had to twist Pelosi’s arm behind her back for a few hours, but it had to be done. However, it was terribly unfortunate that it turned out that the VP couldn’t buy her away into office with over a billion dollars. Unfortunate as well, that she picked a running mate who makes Pee-Wee Herman look like FDR. She couldn’t do it with overwhelmingly positive news coverage as compared to Trump’s treatment in the media. Still, since Bob had caused the problem in the first place, he should have put up a decent attempt to protect her by putting his fingers in his ears like anonymices always do. However, those same anonymices would have accused him of being sexist and condescending, just as they did with those Hispanic and black guys. We all know what the historians will say: “Move on, moron.”
ReplyDeleteWhy was benching Biden something a Republican feels the need to applaud?
ReplyDeleteSomerby's buyer's remorse over Trump is...DELIGHTFUL!
ReplyDeleteSomerby thinks there was something wrong with Biden because he was bucking the neoliberal trend, a trend Somerby endorses.
ReplyDeleteSomerby tries to draw a false equivalency between his personal distaste for Biden and the public's general distaste for Trump.
What is wrong with Trump is fairly simple: he is a run of the mill Reagan Republican, although too boorish and therefore bad for branding; Trump is corrupt and a criminal, few Republicans are not.
Anonymouse 1:06pm, you’d have to ask the people who saw what was going on and risked careers and friendships if they talked about it.
ReplyDeleteI am asking you. You applauded it. Why?
ReplyDeleteSo many lies in one paragraph, @1:01! Chief lie is that Somerby has any influence over anything on the left, much less Nancy Pelosi. She only listens to George Clooney.
ReplyDelete"Somerby thinks there was something wrong with Biden because he was bucking the neoliberal trend"
ReplyDeleteSomerby has given his reasons for thinking there was something wrong with Biden and none of them have to do with bucking the neoliberal trend.
"a running mate who makes Pee-Wee Herman look like FDR."
ReplyDeleteSo true. If only he blow-dried his hair, and wore orange make-up and danced to a gay anthem, then we could have been confident in his masculinity.
Anonymouse 1:35pm, I didn’t “applaud” it, I recognized that it was necessary. YOUR leadership did too. When anonymices show more interest in going after them than in making whiney and vindicate remarks to Bob and other commenters, your question may be taken seriously. As it stands now, your disingenuous “question” is right up there with anonymouse flying monkey bon mots.
ReplyDelete"Aging is not something wrong"
ReplyDeleteActually it is. It means death is approaching and, after a certain point, your cognitive skills diminish and you're simply less impressive and less able to inspire if you try to present yourself as the leader of a nation, especially when you have a speaking disability to begin with.
All this is mind-bogglingly obvious.
Somerby is a neoliberal.
ReplyDeleteNeoliberals are right wingers.
Somerby prefers our society to be ruled by elites, expressing cynicism towards democracy, while offering zero criticism of free market supremacy.
Somerby expresses an affinity for Bill Clinton/Gore and was fine with Obama's policies - all neoliberals.
Somerby finds the current iteration of Republicans uncouth but thinks they make valid points.
Like most neoliberals, Somerby is squeamish when it comes to fighting racism, sexism, and xenophobia.
Somerby is a classic example of a neoliberal.
Which is why he disdains Biden.
Taking someone as sly and slippery in their rhetoric as Somerby at face value, is a fool's errand. Having said that, it is not difficult to discern Somerby's fairly obvious neoliberal inclinations.
Clinton, Gore, and Obama are right-wingers?
DeleteOK, Nonny Moose. You have a nice day.
Quaker, do you not see a continuum from left to right? Neo-liberal is closer to right wing than it is to progressive. Gore lost partly because few voters saw much difference between him and Bush, and Bush was more likeable on a personal level. Bush campaigned as a moderate but governed as a conservative.
DeleteYour quips have become annoying. Either engage seriously with what someone is saying or move on.
As an anonymous commenter, I find Cecelia's calling us mice insulting. It is no better when you refer to anonymous commenters as moose in these hit-and-run style insults.
This is beneath you.
Hhahahaha!
DeleteIf you think this is insulting, you don't get out nearly enough, Nonny Moose. Get a nym or you can move on. I'll even give you Nonny Moose for free if you want it.
DeleteDammit, I already paid you for the rights to Nonny Moose QiB. Why you two bit grifting fraudster, next thing you will want is to be dictator for a day.
Delete@4:34 Haw!
DeleteQuaker, I'll help you out:
DeleteLeft means you support egalitarianism and fight against hierarchy and dominance.
Right means you support hierarchy and dominance and fight against egalitarianism.
These definitions are based on history (French Revolution) and science (largely cultural anthropology).
Everything in the universe is on a spectrum.
Humans are innately egalitarian, science shows this.
Being right wing is an emergent personality trait, that was borne, on a societal scale, when humans transitioned from immediate return societies to a society based on surplus/resource hoarding and commodification, about 10-12k years ago.
Neoliberalism has to do with maintaining a class of elites, primarily via "free" markets and limited government.
A neoliberal is a right winger.
Clinton and Obama both governed as neoliberals, they are both right wingers.
SUPPORT THE MAGA MURDER BILL. Old and poor people should die, the losers are too expensive for billionaires to keep alive.
DeleteAnonymouse 1:52pm, true. As with most anything else, it could have only helped.
ReplyDeleteDoes Bob have TDS? Bob wrote "What the freak is wrong with President Trump? Why does he continue to say the craziest things?"
ReplyDeleteBob must have figured out that saying crazy things is an intentional tactic -- a tactic that's often effective. E.g. it was crazy for Trump to tell Putin that he would attack Moscow, but that crazy statement prevented Russia's Ukraine invasion.
Accusations of "TDS" are highly correlated with sad lost souls that engage in abuse of minors.
DeleteDavid in essence is outing himself as a pedo.
Trump didn't fool Putin. He fooled you.
DeleteQuaker— you may be right. All I have is Trump’s word FWTW. His claim has not been denied or confirmed AFAIK.
DeleteCome join the side of freedom and lovers of Democracy DiC. Your are so close. Everyday you admit to maybe, probably, then definitely being misled. But you always go back to the lifelong fraudster and grifter always speaking the truth. It's unpatriotic to bow to a King's decrees without question. And increasingly with fear of questioning. That ain't American Democracy my friend. Come to the side of truth, justice, and the American way. If it's good enough for Superman it's good for DiC.
DeleteI am so deranged by Trump I think he was honest about something sometime ago.
DeleteHe was:
DeleteI'm the Ernest Hemingway of 140 characters.
Donald Trump
So we have it on tape that he told Putin we would invade Moscow. I didn’t think so.
DeleteQuaker and @5:45 raise a deep philosophical question: How should we decide what is true or real? IMO the sad answer is, there is no certain way.
DeleteI agree with Quaker that being reported by a single news site and not denied is weak, although it's better than nothing. Denials are uncertain. People deny true allegations all the time. Looking for many agreeing sites doesn't work, either. The "Fine People Hoax", the inject bleach hoax, Biden's outstanding intellect and other hoaxes were not true, even though they were widely and consistently reported by respected news sites. Even @5:45's idea of a tape recording or a video could easily be faked by AI.
One answer, which I am finding more and more appealing, is to stop looking for whether a belief accurately describes the real world. Just take the current prevailing narrative as reality. That's less work and makes it easier to get along with the people around me. E.g., in the real world I don't know how Trump's combined policies will affect the cost of living. But the prevailing narrative is that they'll cause inflation. Relationships would be simplified if I just took the coming inflation as a fact.
The way to tell wht’s true and real often involves science. Biden’s intellect is supported by evidence. seek and verify facts.
DeleteThey all knew Biden was senile. They know, we know, they know they’re lying. Democratic Party voters have put their faith in a party proven to lie to them repeatedly. The most recent lie they’ve been forced to acknowledge is Biden’s mental decline. They desperately need Trump to be equally senile because if both parties lie at least Democrat lies are “justified”.
DeleteThere is a vast historical library of lies spawned by Trump that exceeds that of any other living politician, which makes any statement about what he said to Puten suspect and requiring verification, preferably by a third party.
DeleteRepubs are the lying liars constantly telling lies, at least that is what I hear.
DeleteA new report shows that Kamala lost ground among almost every single demographic group that voted for Biden in 2020, including:
DeleteLatino men
Black men (young Black men dropped 10 points)
White men
young voters
Latina women
infrequent voters
urban voters
Asian American and Pacific Islanders
The only group Harris didn't lose ground with was married, white women - a group that is full of neurotic and unstable alcoholics.
Democrats have lost the enthusiasm and support of voters.
https://catalist.us/whathappened2024/#ib-toc-anchor-1
"...a group that is full of neurotic alcoholics..." This is the disclaimer, as in "Listen to me, I'm an asshole."
DeleteThe Democratic Party is the party of educated whites. That's about it. Blacks, Mexicans, gays, especially young people, are all leaving and becoming Trump. The record clearly shows that educated whites, especially women, are the unhappiest, most neurotic, substance abusing political demographic
DeleteTrump will be working on a long overdue constitutional amendment that prevents all women from running for public office. Women and politics do not mix. Removing them from the political process will actually do Democrats a favor. Because it will prevent them from making that mistake again.
DeleteThe Right are the snowflakes they warned us about.
DeleteRemember, they fear drag queens because drag queens protect pre-teens from the predation of Republican Congressional caucus members.
6:45's attitude comes from years of experience of him trying to pick up woman, and being laughed at in his face.
DeleteSad.
Trump, the a failed businessman, who rapes children that remind him of his daughter has one redeeming quality. Which is his complete and utter contempt for Republican voters. When Trump called Republican voters "losers" he was speaking for all great Americans. Obviously.
DeleteIf women were meant to be president, one would have been elected already.
DeleteNew reports indicate that Republican voter suppression was highly effective, kicking off the rolls millions of black and hispanic voters, and rejecting millions of black and hispanic voters.
DeleteReports also indicate that sexism and racism played a significant role in why Dem turnout was so low for Harris.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI know David is familiar with the post hoc ergo propter hoc logical fallacy because he has called people on it in these comments.
DeleteThat doesn't stop him from trying to slide it past us like this: Trump was elected. Putin didn't invade. Therefore Trump's election was the reason for the non-invasion.
The U.S started the Ukraine War by continuing to try to get Ukraine into NATO. In late 2021, Russia issued a set of security demands, including a legally binding guarantee that NATO would not expand into Ukraine. The U.S. and NATO formally rejected these demands and the war started. Ukraine is a pawn. The war is on the shoulders of the Biden admin. The half a million dead are on the shoulders of the Biden admin. Oh my gawd, the confirmation bias blogs you read didn't mention this??
Delete@8:16 Putin demanded a veto over NATO expansion anywhere. Why would the US or NATO ever submit to a demand like this?
Delete"The U.S started the Ukraine War by continuing to try to get Ukraine into NATO."
DeleteHa! I knew it, I always knew it! It was the US that invaded Ukraine!
12:36,
DeleteYour calls for the Democratic Party to lean into identity politics, is duly noted.
"The Democratic Party is the party of educated whites." So the corollary is the Repubic Party is the party of dumb ass whites. Got it.
Delete"I, for one, applaud Bob in taking the courageous step in forcing the Democratic leadership to bench Biden"
ReplyDeleteLet's be real, ok?
"I recognized that it was necessary"
Why was it necessary to you, a Republican?
Establishment Dems like Pelosi and Schumer are deeply unpopular among most Dems, so your comment makes little sense.
Somerby attacks Dems in general, he is not critical of Pelosi/Schumer types.
Perhaps you could explain yourself in a coherent manner, wouldn't want you to risk your credibility here.
1:56 you seem to have some misconceptions about the role of the US president.
ReplyDeleteIt is not the role of the president to "inspire", that is a weird notion that few Americans would hold.
In the US the president oversees the execution of laws passed by Congress.
Aging in and of itself has little to do with diminishing cognitive skills; Biden, by the accounts of those that worked with him and those that interviewed him in his last months of his presidency, was not suffering from any cognitive decline.
Furthermore, the US has robust procedures for dealing with incapacitated presidents. Indeed some of our best/most popular presidents have been quite frail.
It is interesting to note how Republicans are obsessed with Biden's condition, yet turn a blind eye to Trump's obvious cognitive decline, obvious physical decline, and his corruption and criminality.
It suggests that such folks lack integrity.
Anonymouse 2:03pm, no one should have to tell you that Biden isn’t just your president. No one cares whether or not you like or loathe your leadership. You need to start there anyway. You need to be going after them like you go after Bob. Then maybe you’d sound like more than dumb and thoroughly disingenuous twit. Maybe.
ReplyDelete@1:56 Death is approaching for every single person on this planet. We do not know the hour of our death, but children die as infants, as toddlers, in middle childhood and adolescence and in their teens. Shall we treat them as cadavers while they are alive?
ReplyDeleteWe all decline after age 25 cognitively. Some never develop before that age much. But cognitive studies show what remains intact and what declines in elderly people (following age 65) and it isn't what you think. Elderly people and do learn new facts and new skills. Their memories remain good except for episodic memory (memory for everyday events of one's life). The theory there is that interference (the occurrence of many similar events) prevents memory for a specific event. Long term memory, memory span, chrystallized memory and especially semantic memory all improve even in old age. Old people know the most word meanings and facts. This refers to healthy old people. Sick old people are 25% of those below age 80. Over 80, it becomes more likely someone will have some health problem that affects cognition. Note that Biden was in his 70s during most of his term in office.
The presidency does not depend on playing video games skillfully or having quick reactions in racquetball. Playing golf is not a presidential skill. The things that inspire other world leaders to respect our president are wisdom, experience, leadership, and knowledge, NOT a vise-like grip in a handshake or a fake spray-tan and obviously fake hair approximating but not achieving youth. Trump fools no one and he is just as old as Biden.
Biden has the ability to deliver a solid speech. He has done fine in international one-on-one meetings with other leaders. There is no evidence he has been unable to do the job as president. That is why this uproar is so ridiculous, obviously political, and unfair to a man who has done an excellent job.
Ageist stereotypes about what fails in old age, based on generalizations not Biden's specific health, are not "mind-bogglingly obvious" but ignorant. Anyone who spends a lot of time around old people recognizes the wide disparities (differences) among them from person to person. What someone can do depends on their individual health, NOT their age.
There are many young people with serious health issues too. Some are on disability because they cannot work due to their health. Others receive accommodations. Some die in their 40s-50s due to their health problems. It would be foolish to elect someone unable to do the job of president simply because they are 50 years old.
Even Trump demonstrates this. He doesn't read because he supposedly has a learning disability. He won't listen to national security briefings. As a result of a lifelong habit of avoiding learning, he may be the most ignorant man on the planet. He would be in jail if he handn't inherited a bunch of money. About 70% of inmates cannot read either. Like them, Trump got ahead by stealing and committing other crimes.
Presidents don't succeed at their jobs by impressing and inspiring. They succeed by hard work learning how to meet the needs of their constituents, how to do the work of governing, developing and implementing ideas, projects, plans, legislation. Even the president does this stuff (except Trump, who destroys things). Other leaders listen courteously. There is nothing wrong with Biden's writing ability. A bad idea presented fluently is still a bad idea. But arguably, Trump's ability to speak is greatly diminished and no one says a thing about that.
Another symptom of cognitive decline is overly long, rambling comments....
ReplyDeleteThe Biden acuity coverup scandal is why people hate liberals. They have been caught too many times trying to manipulate public perception.
ReplyDeleteBiden’s acuity is fine.
ReplyDelete" ... trying to manipulate public perception."
ReplyDeleteWhat planet are you from?
Cecelia's lost it. Stop tormenting her.
ReplyDeleteWomen should stay out of politics.
ReplyDeletePolitics should leave women alone.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteBiden didn't run in 2016 because he was mourning his son. That's not a mistake. That's life. I think Hillary would have beaten him in the primary but a Biden/Hillary primary would have been much better for the party than the Hillary/Bernie primary was. Still, it was a mistake for Hillary to even be running since she was a woman who had just married into it in the first place.
Repubes hate Dems because they still care about the law, the constitution, and Christ's values. Rububs hate what Christ preached, that's why they never quote him. Fugly weird people.
ReplyDeleteWhen the midterms roll around the polls of voters opinions on the Democrats will be relevant. Either Trump will have shitted himself with the economy or not. If he has, after all the destruction entailed in that, the Republicans will have no credibility and those voters who left Harris will have no trouble abandoning Trump's enablers. He dragged them down the last midterms, and is capable of doing so again. He wasn't exactly a landslide popular vote victor despite her unpopularity and in fact has never beaten a male candidate. Whether the Democrats have learned their lesson in the presidential race is debatable, even unlikely, but the near future of the Republican party rests on the economy. If it slides, the Republicans up for election will be trying to distance themselves the way the Florida legislature has told DeSantis they're not his bitch anymore. But it won't work. Especially if they have slashed Medicaid and other safety net programs to raise the national debt 3-5 trillion dollars in the service of billionaires.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure.
DeleteDid they abandon the Republican, who was President between Clinton and Obama, and crashed the world's economy? You know, the guy who they forget all about.
Even without a crashed economy, Democrats can get most Republicans to vote for their candidate, if they nominate Hunter Biden's penis.
DeleteBush 2 would not have been re-elected if the economy had crashed his first term.
DeleteAnyone who isn't a bigot, or isn't perfectly fine with bigotry, left the Republican Party over a quarter of a century ago.
ReplyDeleteFrom Driftglass:
ReplyDelete"By now you will have noticed that our Never Trump "allies" are incapable of expressing their indignation with their former party using objective terms and a stand-alone vocabulary.
Instead, like the Tamarians in the ST:TNG, Season 5, Episode 2 "Darmok", their critiques are expressed almost entirely in metaphors and allegories. Metaphors and allegories which are meaningful only to themselves. Specifically, they are hardwired to criticize their former party in ways that almost always involve comparisons to us villains here on the Left.
This was especially striking during this Bulwark interview "Little Marco Goes FULL MAGA! (w/ David French)". When describing Donald Trump's policies, David French cannot simply point out that they are catastrophically awful.
Instead you get:
...at an event at the White House so you know we'll get to that in a second yeah it's like Bernie's economics and Code Pink's foreign policy...
And:
Marco sounded like Cindy Sheehan.
And:
Cancel Culture from the far left, bad! Cancel Culture [from the Right] hold my beer.
And:
...you take almost any malady of the far left and then you take it over to the to the Trump right and they make it worse...
And:
...far-left condescension smug y'know, if you're disagreeing with me you're a bad problematic person. That's bad! Trump turns it into, if you disagree with me, I'm so obviously right that you're not just an idiot if you disagree that you're also a coward.
And, to repeat in case you missed it:
...every malady you saw on the far left in the sort of woke world the anti-woke MAGA world has replicated and amplified.
For goofs like French, it is imperative to continually remind anyone who will listen (which is a lot of people now that The New York Times has given him a job) that we on the Left were the OG villains, and that we still are just fucking awful.
In other words, "Bork, his face black, his eyes red.""
------------------------------
And this is exactly how Somerby functions except in reverse. He cannot use direct language to criticize the left but instead derides Gutfeld and uses all those analogies and metaphors to camouflage his disdain for the left, while calling himself a liberal. Maybe this is a personality trait rather than a political stance?
Spot on.
DeleteDefinitely a personalty trait, Republicans have no ideology; it is dominance all the way down.
Republicans hate the teachings of Jesus and the Constitution of the United States.
DeleteYes, anonymouse10:20am, you know the way Tapper is treating Biden? Bob HAS BEEN howling for years that they should be doing it to Trump. To refresh your memory…all anonymices have been doing in return is to say every nonsensical ridiculous counter that you can pull out of your butt against the idea. That’s LITERALLY your job. Launching stupid arguments at Bob is literally your sole skill. Yesterday, anonymices were opining that the same thing that Tapper was doing to Biden should be done to Trump. As though they hadn’t been shooting that very idea down for years!
DeleteRead below and stop pretending that Bob is any way cagey, metaphorical, and abstract about this:
**Over here in Blue America, large segments of the population 1) couldn't discern that fairly obvious fact, or 2) chose not to talk about it.
**Under current arrangements, large segments of BlueAmerica have joined forces with those messenger children.
**is he lying when he makes his crazy claims, or is he incompetent in some way which needs to be explored? By now, that's a blindingly obvious question. But within Blue America's finer orgs, no one is going to ask.
**After Memorial Day has come and gone, we're going to try to clarify the nature of this failure to serve. To Red America, but also to our own Blue America, we're going to offer this simple directive:
You have a citizen's duty.
**We Blues were deceived in a hundred ways on route to last year's election defeat. At present, our neighbors and friends in Red America are being deceived, around the clock, by the tools on the Fox News Channel.
At present, our neighbors and friends in Red America are being deceived around the clock. David Brooks won't talk about this. In full fairness, neither will Rachel Maddow, and neither will anyone else.
***All of us, Red and Blue, are being grossly misled. In theory, each of us has a citizen's duty—but in what does that duty consist?
***Something was wrong with President Biden. Something (presumably, something different) is wrong with President Trump. (As we've said, that strikes us as a human tragedy—as a tragic loss of human potential.)
***That said, what exactly is wrong with President Trump? In our view, David Brooks has a citizen's duty to step forward and center that question. If he has to speak to (carefully chosen) medical specialists, that's what he'll just have to do.
(It wouldn't hurt if Nicholas Kristof went ahead and did the same thing.)
***When in the world will David Brooks accept his duty as a citizen? When will the silent lambs of our highest elites at long last agree to serve?
***When will they confront the challenge posed by the Fox News Channel? When will they directly state the obvious fact that something is wrong with President Trump, as was the fairly obvious case with President Biden before him?
***”Something we were withholding made us weak?" When will our lambs walk away from their silence?
***When will these lambs agree to serve? When will they center the truth?
See, it’s funny when Cecelia chastises commenters here, cause she doesn’t believe a word of Somerby vis a vis Trump. What a maroon.
DeleteAnonymouse 8:16pm, I concur with Bob sometimes. and sometimes I don’t. The same way I am as to you too, expect I’m not here calling you a bigot every day because that’s how I get paid.
DeleteZzzzzzz…
DeleteMust be your supper break.
DeleteThe Democratic Party’s entire platform is the Word and example of Jesus Christ put into policy. That’s why fake Christians hate them so much.
DeleteYou just gave Jesus a side stitch.
DeleteJesus thought it was funny because he was an illegal immigrant or because he cared for the poor and disabled? Why does Cecelia hate Jesus?
DeleteAnonymouse 1:51pm, you know they may have Holy Family paper dolls you could play with.
DeleteCece,
DeleteShow us on the doll where Democrats forced you to treat black people with equality.
It's funny, because every Republican voter is a mouth-breathing bigot.
DeleteCha-Ching!
DeleteFun fact:
DeleteThe number of people who think there is a Republican voter who isn't a bigot, is zero.
Anyone who isn't a bigot, or isn't perfectly fine with bigotry, left the Republican Party over a quarter of a century ago.
DeleteCan you imagine Cecelia actually believing there is a Republican voter who isn't a bigot?
DeleteIf so, you are a prime candidate to purchase the Brooklyn Bridge from me.
What's your theory for why no one can spot the difference between Neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and the fine people on the Right?
DeleteAnonymouse 11:21am, I get that you need the money to buy some new material.
DeleteAnd on the Seventh Day God rested, instead of creating a Republican voter who isn't a bigot.
DeleteCecelia,
DeleteThanks for the list of Republican voters who aren't bigots.
Do you mind if I share it with the MSM?
On the seventh day anonymices sprang forth from the droppings of all God’s creation. NEVER go to sleep on the job.
DeleteAnonymouse 11:34am, you got it. They’ll puzzle upon butter and milk and then remember you’re flying monkeys.
DeleteIt's funny, because even the people who insist there must be a Republican voter who isn't a bigot, can't find one.
DeleteMath trick
DeleteMultiplying any number by the number of Republican voters who aren't bigots, always results in zero.
Anonymices 11:46pm wrong. The only beings that collectively equal zero are anonymices.
Delete11:46 - You may want to check out how many black voters voted for Trump. I doubt they all did so for bigoted reasons.
DeleteDon't beat yourself up, Cecelia.
DeleteIt's a trick question. There are no differences between Neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and fine people on the Right.
"I doubt they all did so for bigoted reasons."
DeleteWhy is that?
Sheesh.
DeleteAnonymouse 12:41pm, you can’t discern a difference between an abacus and your poo.
Delete12:42 is a War Games-type commenter. The only winning move is not to play.
DeleteA fucking black landslide for the convicted felon. Must be those people like the gangsta style, and the Felon is the OG. Per AP: "Nationally, about 8 in 10 Black voters supported Harris. But, that was down from about 9 in 10 in the last presidential election who went for Biden."
DeleteDG is correct.
DeleteYou're never going to find a Republican voter who isn't a bigot, so taking your ball and going home is the only way to save face.
Really? You think your wit and wisdom is making me tremble and flee?
DeleteI hope you'll stick around, so we can all see you fail to find the Republican voter who isn't a bigot, but you do you.
DeleteWhere are the tariff agreements? A week or two ago Trump said that the US reach tariff agreements with some Asian countries very soon. Probably India first. Since then, crickets. Not good.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you continue to think when the Felon opens his mouth a flagrant lie is not coming out?
DeleteThe way he turned on the EU 50% tariff then turned it off makes me hope he is doing it for insider trading, otherwise he is even more bugfck nutz than i thought. And I think he is completely bugfck nutz.
DeleteSen. Greg Murphy (R-NC) on CNN yesterday, when asked about getting fair tariff rates for the US:
ReplyDelete"You can either do it one of two ways. You can either do it militarily, which no one wants or economically, and he (Trump) is trying to do it economically, which is much better for the American people."
Thoughts on what the 'military' option looks like when it comes to negotiating tariff rates? Invade Brazil? Bomb Brussels? Is something wrong with this guy (and his party)?
Historically, military force isn't used to directly alter tariffs. It's probably being used as a rhetorical device to highlight tariffs as a preferable method of asserting national interests.
DeleteHistorically tariffs hurt our national interests.
DeleteYes there is something wrong with that Sen, what he said is nuts.
A point that should be noted is that trade rules are unfair to the United States. Trump is trying to solve this problem, unlike other Presidents who did little or nothing. Working to deal real problems, even in the face of embarrassment, is a reason I’m thrilled that Trump is President.
DeleteThe embarrassment comes from controversial attempted solutions, such as huge tariffs, aggressive deportations, and DOGE. Presidents who ignore the problem and do nothing are generally not much criticized for inaction.
Opponents of the current Republican administration must try to build a party and a platform capable of winning an election. Preferably one that isn't losing support of Latino men, Latina women, Black men, White men, White Women without a college education, young voters of races, Asian American and Pacific Islanders etc.
DeleteIt's hard to win with a party that everyone hates (and that hates everyone including themselves).
“ trade rules are unfair to the United States”
DeleteI don’t suppose you could have a deal between, say, the US, Canada, and Mexico that would create fair trading between thise countries?
Naaahhh.
The deal you’re referring to was signed by our President’s biggest enemy. ;)
DeleteThat is not the first time that particular troll showed a misunderstanding of the Democratic Party's agency in enacting NAFTA and what a political disaster it has been for them.
DeleteUm, who renegotiated nafta and called it the greatest trade deal ever?
Delete"Trump is trying to solve the problem." Do more better DiC. Trump is a drooling goon. He is gone daddy gone. He ain't fixin on solvin nutten.
DeleteThe Left are trying to hold Trump to an impossible standard. No one can differentiate between Neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and the fine people on the Right.
Deletehahahaha!!
ReplyDelete3:05. The Democratic Party has Trump carrying their water for them presently, as he and his enablers espouse economic policy that will hurt the consumer. 25% tariffs on i phones? The EU is determined not to kow tow to Trump’s threats. The typical Republican mishandling of the economy is on steroids in MAGA world. Democrats as politicians are unpopular currently and may sort themselves out, maybe not. The midterms will, however, be a bitch for Republicans if the trend continues in which a majority of citizens polled believes that the country is headed in the wrong direction. Senate Republicans have the power to reign some but not all of Trump’s antics in . We will get back to you about your hubris in a year or so.
ReplyDeleteTrump has now paused the EU tariffs until July. He got NOTHING in return. He is a moron.
DeleteIt's not hubris. It's reality. (I'm a Democrat) What does it say about the leadership of the party that they have nothing to say to voters now and have no other plan than to wait for Trump to fail?
DeleteThe good news is that internal DNC documents leaked to The New York Times about efforts to reconnect with voters stated, “above all, we must shift from a moralizing tone.”
This confirms Somerby's thesis for decades about how we are perceived has always been correct. No one likes us. We don't understand how we are perceived. We come across as dicks. (You come across like a total, sad, loser dick every day.)
A successful 2026 midterm could be a curse for Democrats. We had a good 2022 and what did that do?
The good news is that after 2024, at least it known we have to change at the upper levels. If they can come up with a good plan, you, as a dick and a sheep, will be apprised of it when you need to be.
" No one likes us. We come across as dicks." Absolutely, MAGA.
DeleteThe enormous EU tariffs were intended to persuade Europe to negotiate the long-term tariffs seriously. Perhaps Trump dropped these tariffs because the EU is negotiating on a more realistic basis.
Delete"He got NOTHING in return."
DeleteYou mean he didn't make any concessions to himself?
God DiC I get so embarrassed for you. "Perhaps Trump" is some silly ass sane washing of the moron.
Delete11:24. I Googled Trump Tariffs just now and saw nothing about Trump dropping them. Delayed until July 9th is not dropping them. Likewise no press mention of the EU negotiating on any terms. What exactly are you reading?
DeleteDumbass: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cq857yqwvldo
DeleteDonald Trump's outright contempt for Republican voters is something the MSM needs to emulate.
Delete“President Donald Trump said Sunday that the U.S. will delay implementation of a 50% tariff on goods from the European Union from June 1 until July 9 to buy time for negotiations with the bloc.
DeleteThat agreement came after a call Sunday with Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, who had told Trump that she "wants to get down to serious negotiations," according to the U.S. president's retelling.
"I told anybody that would listen, they have to do that," Trump told reporters on Sunday in Morristown, New Jersey, as he prepared to return to Washington. Von der Leyen, Trump said, vowed to "rapidly get together and see if we can work something out”
"... according to the U.S. president's retelling."
Delete"All politicians lie."
David in Cal, 2025
Of course it remains unmentioned that foreign trade is Congress's job.
DeleteThe Europeans will be unified in not backing down to an amoral grifter.
DeleteThe popularity of the Democratic party is at an all-time low.
DeleteThe popularity of the United States of America is at an all-time low.
DeleteThankfully, I live in the Republic of Anonymous, and not that collectivist, Marxist shit hole country.
Captain Individual>>>>>Captain America, all day everyday, and twice on Sundays.
DeleteMemorial Day -- the day Somerby celebrates his draft dodging avoidance of service. One more thing he shares with Trump.
ReplyDelete"QUEENS, NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—In what has become a Memorial Day tradition for him, on Monday Donald J. Trump laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Podiatrist.
ReplyDeleteTrump made his annual pilgrimage to pay homage to the heroic doctors who issued bogus diagnoses to ensure that their privileged patients never answered the call of duty.
In an emotional tribute, Trump thanked the fallen foot specialists who bravely risked their medical licenses so that others facing military service could be free.
Choking back tears, he said, “They gave everything so people like me could give nothing.”
The blood-thirsty war party (i.e. the Republican Party) never had any intention of ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
ReplyDeleteWill this plan work? Or is it the “dog food” situation?
ReplyDelete“ Democratic donors and strategists have been gathering at luxury hotels to discuss how to win back working-class voters, commissioning new projects that can read like anthropological studies of people from faraway places,” national political correspondent Shane Goldmacher wrote.
The Democrats reportedly coded the plan SAM – Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan.
“The prospectus for one new $20 million effort, obtained by The Times, aims to reverse the erosion of Democratic support among young men, especially online,” wrote Goldmacher. “It is code-named SAM — short for ‘Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan’ — and promises investment to ‘study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality in these spaces.’””

DeleteRidiculous.
DeleteEspecially with the 2nd Amendment just sitting there in plain sight.
In other words, is the problem Dem policies or how those policies are marketed? Frankly, I don't even know what the Dem policies are.
DeleteWhether you like Trump's policies or not, Trump has a bunch of clear policies that he's working at: ending Ukraine war, closing the border, expelling illegal immigrants, cutting waste and fraud, ending DEI. If Dems had the Presidency and both houses of Congress, what would they do?
Democrats don't have any values.
DeleteLet's review, Ukraine war raging unabated, breaking legal asylum protocol at the border, expelling legal immigrants without due process, increasing government spending and breaking vital agencies, and supporting the white Christian nationalist agenda. BTW - none of this is the felons agenda. Read Project 2025 dicshit.
Delete1:37 You conveniently forgot the tax breaks for billionaires, expanding the National debt, slashing Medicaid, and bankrupting the country.
DeleteThanks 2:53 and 3:09. These are criticisms of Republicans. What are the Dems’ positive policies? What would they do if they were in power?
Delete4:06 The democrats issued a comprehensive platform which apparently you are unaware of , before the election. Go find it on the internet. Trump didn't have one that he admitted to. Project 2025 was so egregious that they pretended it wasn't their platform. No one needs to outline for you what you had no curiosity about before you voted.
DeleteYes, @5:25, like most of the country I was unaware of what was in the Dems' "comprehensive platform."
DeleteThat's because Harris wasn't out promoting it and using it to garner votes. It was like they were fulfilling a duty to have a platform, but it wasn't an important part of the campaign. The Dems mostly ran a negative campaign.
It is nobody’s duty but your own to be an informed voter.
DeleteAnybody who doesn't follow both liberal and conservative news sources is not an informed voter.
DeleteWhat the fuck is a liberal news source? Is it the friend of the Republican voter who isn't a bigot?
Delete“Conservative” news sources? Are there any that don’t lie and spread propaganda, or offer toxic sludge like Gutfeld?
Delete11:17. Patently incorrect if you make the mistake of labeling Fox a news source.
DeleteA man has been arrested after a car collided with pedestrians in Liverpool city centre during Liverpool Football Club's Premier League victory parade on Monday.
ReplyDeleteMerseyside Police confirmed that the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.
Let's hope England comes to their senses about the criminality of white people, soon.
DeleteProbably a convert.
Delete
ReplyDeletePlus $5B to $175 Billion now!
Thank you, DOGE! Please don't stop fighting waste fraud and abuse, defunding 'em public enemies.
Squeal louder, idiot-Democrats!
9:00,
DeleteDon't expect DOGE to cut any funding from the military.
The Republican Party loves socialism.
Say what you will about the Republican Party cutting funding for hungry children, so they can give a tax break to the elites. But you can't say they don't know Republican voters are focused on keeping minorities down, and not economics.
ReplyDelete
