EMERGENCE: The president's disorder is the curse...

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2026

...from which we need to emerge: "I'm a scrappy kid from Youngstown," the Ohio candidate said.

"And scrappy kids from Youngstown, we never back down from a fight!"

At this site, the analysts loved that bit of rhetoric. They liked it all the way down.

For the record, that self-proclaimed scrappy kid is sixty years old at this time. It's her first run for elective office. She's running for governor of her state, and she's expected to win.

The analysts also like the cut of the jib of the rest of the rhetoric she put on display last weekend. Meanwhile, out in Iowa, a scrappy Senate candidate also offered some striking rhetoric as he spoke with Lawrence O'Donnell last night.

Personally, we'll go with the rhetoric of Candidate Amy Acton in Ohio over that of Candidate Josh Turek in Iowa. But various forms of new rhetoric—new ways of challenging and inspiring the American public--are struggling to emerge as November 3 draws near.

New ways of thinking are trying to be born! And from what nightmare do these new voices seek to let us emerge?

Yesterday, in Corpus Christi, a thoroughly disordered person was seen making outlandish claims toa lrge group of people in a thoroughly public setting. The RealClearPolitics site offers videotape of some of the president's comments.

Inevitably, the sitting president refers to Candidate James Talarico as "Talafreako" all through his remarks. Below, you see the transcript of some of his remarks, the evidence of a profound disorder.

(We would recommend discussing it as an untreated medical matter.)

We include the headline from the RealClearPolitics site. Here's part of what this nation's disordered president said in this disordered session:

Trump on Talarico: "No Politician In History Has Been More Obsessed With Turning Your Young Boys And Girls Transgender"

President Trump launched a full-scale culture war attack against "James Tala-freak-o" during a rally for Ken Paxton on Tuesday in Corpus Christi...

[...]

TRUMP: Talafreako wants to get rid of the guns. He wants to get rid of the oil. He wants to get rid of the meat.

But he wants to keep the transgender mutilization of your children, open borders. He wants to keep men playing in women's sports. Figure that one out.

This is what Talafreako stands for, and it's what he is, it's where he is...But no politician in history has been more obsessed with turning your young boys and girls transgender. I mean, he wants to—he said that recently.

I saw a thing where he said, "What do you like the best?" He said, essentially, "Transgender children." That was a straight— That was a straight—

You know, look. That's the way it is. You're not going to change it.

You know, it's like meat. He's going around to so many barbecues. That's probably why—either that or he has a mental illness.

[...]

And not only did Talafreako state that God is transgender, he actually said that if Jesus Christ himself came and visited the Texas legislature, Jesus would be promoting sex changes for little children.

You know, just—I'm not an expert on it, but I will tell you, I read enough about it. I find it amazing, you know, many of those little children, as he says, when they turn 22 and 25, they say, "Who did this to me? Who did it to me? Why did you do this to me?" Many, many.

[...]

But the only man standing between Texas and this raging lunatic is a man named President Donald J. Trump. Thank you. And I need the help of Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate. I need a little help, please. I need help. He's the perfect guy.

In the iconic film, On the Waterfront, Father Barry famously says this:

Jesus Christ is down here on the waterfront.

The sitting president has now disgracefully told a Texas audience thissss:

Not only did Talafreako state that God is transgender, he actually said that if Jesus Christ himself came and visited the Texas legislature, Jesus would be promoting sex changes for little children.

The candidate never made such ludicrous claims. It is from this manifest, undisguised madness that the rhetoric of a scrappy kid in Ohio is attempting to let us emerge.

This morning, Morning Joe played tape of those claims by the sitting president. In response to this inexcusable madness, Joe Scarborough said this about what the Trump operation has done:

SCARBOROUGH (10/27/26): They've twisted and perverted the gospel. It's extraordinary.

It's just extraordinary how much they've twisted and perverted it and created their own new religion. And they have! A completely new religion that lets them feel good about voting for people like Ken Paxton and Donald Trump.

So said Scarborough, who runs the best policy and political discussions seen on American TV.

Morning Joe played the tape of that insanity; Scarborough offered his view.  But the New York Times and other Blue orgs have been running away from this, an act of cowardice and incompetence, all through these past years.

This madness needs to be reported and discussed on page 1. If the paper's journalists aren't up to the challenge of discussing what's going on, those journalists need to step down.

We badly need a type of emergence. Many are refusing to serve.

Tomorrow: Candidates Acton and Turek

  1. "and she's expected to win"

What, a motherless child is expected to win? Expected by whom?

"new ways of challenging and inspiring the American public"

What? Saying "I'm a Real American, unlike that colored fella running against me" is a new way? Are you dumb, Bob? Are you a Dumbocrat?

Talafreako - that does sound funny. I like it. Probably another racist motherless Dumbocrat...

    1. Who describes a 61-year old woman as "a motherless child"? She grew up a long time ago and served her state by heading the anti-covid effort and the Dept of Health. Diminishing her by referring to her as any kind of child is ridiculous, obvious propaganda.

I hope Ramaswamy is not trying to run on his skin color. That is like stolen valor, given that he grew up middle-class privileged, attended prep school, Harvard and Yale. Then became wealthy selling pharmaceuticals, after working for a hedge fund. That isn't serving the people, something a governor is expected to do. It was serving himself, as he continues to do as a Trump crony and now a liar about his opponent's qualifications, backed by V-PAC, a consortium of 22 billionaires including Musk, who donated 5 million to his campaign.

      Don't vote for this guy.

"COLUMBUS, OHIO (The Borowitz Report)—In a bid to close out his gubernatorial campaign on a positive note, on Wednesday Vivek Ramaswamy released a campaign ad featuring his father.

“Unlike some people in this race, I wanted to show that I am not estranged from a parent,” Ramaswamy proudly declared in the 30-second spot.

Sporting his signature horns and carrying a pitchfork, Ramaswamy’s dad urged Ohioans to vote for the entire Republican ticket.

“I know that this is a midterm election,” he said. “But pretend that my other spawn is on the ballot.”

  2. The president's disorder is not the curse. Somerby externalizes Trump's disorder as something separate from Trump himself, over which he has no control. That is incorrect. Trump and his disorder are part of the same man and he has control over his actions. If he does not, those surrounding him have control and can remove him from office and prevent him from harming our nation. That is in the Constitution. All of the people with the ability to do that are not disordered too. And then there are the people who elected Trump, seeing what he is and does from his prior administration and intervening time out of office. Yet they elected him anyway. They are not disordered. They did that with their eyes wide open.

And now there is a slate full of people with the same disorder as Trump, running for election or reelection all over our nation in the midterm elections. Those people are not all disordered. They have made a choice to be Republicans and to say and do abominable things, like Trump. They cannot all be disordered without reducing the concept of disorder to a banal and trivial definition.

It is ludicrous that Somerby today attempts to whitewash Trump's evil deeds, his craving for wealth at any cost, his complete disregard for the people and our country to the point of selling our nation out to Putin.

If Trump has dementia, he should be removed from power. If Trump is shown to be corrupt (as he has been, in my opinion), he should be removed from power. If Trump is too ignorant to govern properly, he should be removed from office. But one cannot just shrug, label him mentally ill or disturbed or disordered and let things continue as they are. That is unacceptable. Republicans are too busy plundering our nation for their own gain, to bother protecting the people from Trump's incompetence, his excesses, from his treason in the name of greed and power lush. They are as much to blame as Trump, especially when it is so obvious who and what Trump is -- except to Somerby.

Reporting Trump's supposed illness on Page 1 has already been done, repeatedly, and it results in no action because Republicans are in power, and Trump lets them do what they want. So nothing is happening to change Trump's evil-doing. We need a new regime. That is in the hands of the American voters, not the press.

Somerby should be using his blog to urge each of every one of his readers to go out to the polls and defeat Republicans. Vote for Democrats up and down the ballot, but especially for the House and Senate. Then we can begin to address the problem posed by Trump and his accomplices. Without that, we are spectators to the demise of our once powerful nation, in thrall to tech bros such as Musk and Thiel and held in fear by Trump's not-so-secret police, ICE. Given that those surrounding Trump have surrendered to him, we are the only ones now who can save our country -- vote early, go to the polls in person if you can, vote Democratic.

  4. Notice how Somerby repeats Trump's entire rant against Talarico, without equal space for Talarico (or anyone else) to rebut it? This is how Somerby rolls -- he says look at this and then never rebuts or fact-checks anything in his quoted material (usually right wing). There is one sentence saying that Talarico never said what the president attributed to him. One sentence:

"The candidate never made such ludicrous claims. "

Then Somerby quotes Scarborough saying that Trump perverts the Bible. That is hardly a refutation of the stuff about Talarico promoting transgenderism.

Has Talarico advocated for kids to become transgender? Of course not. But why does Somerby let such lies stand like this, repeating the detailed slander without specific rebuttal. Then moving on to "On the Waterfront" instead of fact-checking the president's lies.

If Somerby is not willing to fact-check the lies, he shouldn't be quoting them at such length. That only helps Republicans. It only advances their talking points. It does nothing to keep Trump and his accomplices from winning the midterm. It only exposes Trump's filth to a wider audience.

    1. Somerby characterizes Trump as a "thoroughly disordered person" and his remarks as "evidence of a profound disorder", before again calling Trump a "disordered president" and stating the remarks were made during a "disordered session.'

"The candidate never made such ludicrous claims."

    5. 12:02 is spot on.

Republicans have been up to their old dirty tricks against Talarico. Somerby's post today is just another version of Republicans sending out those fake pamphlets in Texas.

Laser focusing on the exact proper diagnosis of what ails Trump is a distraction from Trump's corruption and criminality.

On the other hand, Somerby is fine with going after Omar, because who knows maybe they will find some slight infraction.

But don't go after Republican criminals. No no no. That is too punitive.

Get real. Somerby is a right winger pushing a right wing agenda, through coyness, slyness, misdirection, obtuseness, amplification. He tries nearly every trick in the book that fits his niche; if you fell for it that is on you. Somerby is counting on there being a sucker born every minute.

He hints, teases, implies, uses sarcasm (often unsignaled), refers to symbolism in other people's writing, name drops and mimics, and does not ever say what he really means. And yes, he lies by omission and by misdirection. That all means you cannot read his surface meaning and decide you know what he means.

    11. Great. I'm always willing to learn new things. So tell me what misdirection and/or lie by omission Somerby was employing when he wrote:

      Delete
    12. First, Somerby repeats all the lies verbatim when he could have summarized them in one or two sentences. Then his fact-check and rebuttal is a single sentence that does not report Talarico’s actual statements and position, his side of the issue. That leaves readers no clear comparison. The non-specificity of Talarico’s position amounts to nothing more than “oh yeah,” which is a misrepresentation of Talarico, a lie by omission from Somerby. He should explain what Talarico said and why Trump’s claims are ludicrous, but he didn’t.

  5. "This madness needs to be reported and discussed on page 1. If the paper's journalists aren't up to the challenge of discussing what's going on, those journalists need to step down."

It doesn't matter whether Trump is evil or whether he is insane. The effect is the same, he is incompetent and he is destroying our nation. He needs to be removed from office ASAP. The press reports news. It does not speculate about what must be done to solve our nation's problems. There is no value to hearing once again that Trump has done something wrong. We the people are faced with fixing his mistakes. That means doing something to stop this ongoing destruction wrought by Trump and his criminal accomplices.

Somerby keeps calling for the wrong remedy (more press reporting) instead of urging the people and our representatives to correct our national problem. Trump needs to be lawfully removed from office, his incompetent appointees removed with him, and better officials need to take their place. ASAP. Somerby never calls for anything to be done to fix what Trump has destroyed. Somerby only repeats what Trump and other Republicans have said, along with daily right wing talking points. Until Somerby calls for effective action, he can be presumed to be working for the right, supporting Trump by excusing his weirdness as mental illness (an affront to those truly suffering) and asking for the press to circulate Trump's garbage more widely through their publications. That is the last thing we need. We are all ready for the cure, not more of this wannabe fascists looting and pillaging our nation, while helping Putin attack Europe. America needs to wise up. That isn't going to happen if the press just keeps repeating Trump's mistaken rants. It is our job (and Somerby's, if he every wakes up) to fix our country, beginning with the midterms and continuing from there.

  7. From the "We're defending Democracy" scumbags

Democrat operatives spent months finding Alaskans with the same name as Republican Dan Sullivan so they could confuse voters and help Mary Peltola (D), according to The New York Times.

A staffer was tasked with finding every voter named "Dan Sullivan" in the state and then contacting them and coaxing them to run for Senate.

The plan worked when a man named "Dan J. Sullivan," a retired teacher from a small fishing village that can only be reached by air or ocean, announced he was running.

He has held no campaign events, has given very few interviews, and has voted for Democrats in the past.

As The Times reported, the Peltola campaign claims it had no involvement in recruiting "Dan J. Sullivan"; however, documents suggest the campaign was actively involved and that the operation was "much broader."

"The endeavor, which was internally called the ballot composition project, involved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs," the NYT reports.

Peltola was reportedly "definitely aware" of what was going on, according to Peltola's former campaign manager Elisa Rios.

Does anyone think Lindsey Graham's sister is qualified to run for his seat? Several Republicans are switching to Independent or Democrat, just for this election.

  12. Voters put transgender issues at the bottom of their priority list. In every poll and survey it is literally the lowest priority issue.

In part because there are very few trans people, for example there are 500,000 athletes in the NCAA, less than 10 are trans, it may even be less than five.

In part because people have no issue with trans people. They don't cause any harm.

Even so, Dems have a commanding lead over Repubs on the transgender issue, by a wide margin. (Dems also outscore Repubs on immigration, another low priority issue)

Someone, perhaps a Dem plant, is fooling the Repubs into thinking that transgenderism and immigration are winning issues for them, they are not, it is causing Repubs to shoot themselves in the foot.

As Somerby notes, Trump is dragging down the GOP. At this point the GOP will need to offer something big to Americans, something they want. If Republicans passed Medicare For All that would go a long way towards redeeming the party, otherwise it is headed for disaster.

@6:43 didn't consult the research literature before expressing his or her opinion. AI says:

"Global Prejudice and Studies: Large-scale international attitudinal studies (such as cross-cultural research by Jaime Napier) consistently find higher rates of explicit and implicit prejudice against trans women compared to trans men across various countries and demographic groups, with male respondents showing the most pronounced gap."

    "AnonymousOctober 28, 2026 at 3:12 PM

Massive corruption? Lol. Let me know when his son starts selling paintings made from his own shit for a million dollars a piece."

Even AI knows this is not true:

"No, Hunter Biden's actual paintings and artwork are not made from feces.
The claim comes from an unverified allegation made on social media by Shaun Maguire, a venture capitalist and former landlord who claimed that Hunter Biden rented a property in Venice, California, failed to pay rent, and attempted to settle the debt using art made from his own feces."

But this illustrates why it isn't enough to call Trump crazy and let it go at that. Trump's supporters are just as crazy and they tell just as many lies. They think it is funny or clever to make up stuff like this, which clogs discourse to the point where a sense of truth is lost, people are not in touch with reality, and they cannot be reasoned with.

Republicans tolerate this, even encourage it. That is why they cannot be trusted in office.

  14. Somerby says he likes Acton's "rhetoric" but he doesn't like Turek's as much:

"Personally, we'll go with the rhetoric of Candidate Amy Acton in Ohio over that of Candidate Josh Turek in Iowa."

No discussion of what Turek did wrong (insufficiently scrappy, too Iowan and not enough Ohioan?) or what he did right. Just the disdain. Then Somerby goes on to repeat at length Trump's assault on Talarico, including all of the lies.

Rhetoric isn't what determines elections. Qualifications do that. A track record of achievement does that. Solid positions on issues and clear statements of future plans do that. An election shouldn't be about who is scrappiest or who sounds most rhetorically right. Did Somerby perhaps denigrate Turek's rhetoric in order to beef up his praise of Acton and avoid sounding sexist again? Without specifics, who knows? We readers see no quotes from Turek's speech, so we have nothing to go on.

This is not how a liberal or Democrat or hopeful blue voter supports a candidate. That faint dislike of Turek because of some rhetoric-related mistake comes across as a putdown compared to his talk about scrappy old Amy. Why not talk about the positives voters care about instead? Somerby's only specific about Amy is that this is her first election. He doesn't say that this is her first role in public administration and governance though. He leaves out her leadership during covid. And Somerby tells us nothing at all about Turek, except he is apparently rhetorically disabled. Somerthing thought it was more important to give us Trump's entire rant against Talarico, in all of its florid incoherence. We don't need that from you, Bob. Why not take this election seriously, as if you actually supported those liberals whose names you dropped only to disparage?

  15. There are no such thing as curses. The word refers to magic and superstition that does not exist in the world. Somerby's reference to Trump's curse makes him seem like some unfortunate person being persecuted by a witch, not for anything he did wrong, in a way that he cannot help.

Trump has brought his own problems on himself. He is the one hurting others, not a victim of sorcery or the target of hags consorting with Satan. It is unhelpful when Somerby talks about Trump in these terms. Trump is the evildoer and we the people are the victims and targets of his wrongdoing. No one believes in such supernatural calamities any more, so Somerby sounds ignorant and ridiculous when he frames Trump this way.

If we are going to find our way out of these troubles, we all need to talk about what is happening in a realistic and truthful way. Trump doesn't have a curse, he is a curse.
