TUESDAY: He's crafted our most intelligent cable news show!

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2026

He may be wrong about this: We're grateful to Joe Scarborough for the cable news show he has built.

It seems to us that Morning Joe features the most intelligent discussions found anywhere in daily cable news programming. That said, we think he may be somewhat incorrect-adjacent on this:

Scarborough Fumes That the Media Has a Pro-Trump ‘Bias’ Because Reporters are ‘Numbed To It All’

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough accused the mainstream media of effectively developing a bias in President Donald Trump’s favor Tuesday, arguing reporters have become so accustomed to his rhetoric that comments that would engulf another president in controversy now barely register.

The host pointed to Trump’s remarks at a rally in Nebraska on Monday, where the president suggested Iran could “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego while defending the economic costs of the ongoing conflict as a “small price to pay.”

Scarborough said he checked the websites of several major newspapers Tuesday morning, naming The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Financial Times, and found only The New York Times had prominently covered the comments.

[...]

Scarborough added: “I mean, you could take his quotes from last night, you can take his quotes from other speeches, you could run together a supercut of all of those clips and that’s the same questions about his mental acuity that were asked about Joe Biden’s mental acuity. But that’s not happening and that won’t happen.”

We've often criticized the New York Times for failing to report (for disappearing) the steady stream of crazy remarks posted by the sitting president. That said, we thought the Scarborough gang were paraphrasing a bit freely today about the president's comment last night about San Diego and Los Angeles.

(The paraphrase offered in the passage we've posted strikes us as almost surely inaccurate.)

That said, also this:

Regarding the sitting president's "mental acuity" (and possible issues of "mental illness"), Joe and Mika and their standard roster of high-end guests have joined everyone else in the guild in refusing to discuss what they must surely think they know about the sitting president.

By the way, when was President Biden's "mental acuity" widely questioned in the mainstream Blue American press, including on Morning Joe?

That earlier president's "mental acuity" was relentlessly flogged on the Fox News Channel, sometimes in ways which were transparently bogus, quite often in ways which were not. We don't recall seeing that topic discussed on Morning Joe or elsewhere in Blue America's press until very late in the game, long after that president's debate meltdown made the (unfortunate) topic quite hard to avoid.

Were Scarborough and the rest of the group perhaps a bit over their skis today? It seemed to us that they might possibly maybe were!

The media doesn't have a Pro-Trump 'bias' because reporters are "Numbed to it all".
The media has a Pro-Trump 'bias' because they are owned by people who support fascism.

    1. There has been good reporting, especially in the New York Times, about Trump‘s corruption. It never gets mentioned in this blog.

  3. What signs were there early in the game (prior to 2024) that Biden‘s mental acuity was severely impaired? Other than of course, the bogus reporting on Fox News?

  5. The media are not pro Trump:
“extensive analysis by the Pew Research Center tracking media coverage during his early months in office found that 62% of the stories about President Trump were predominantly negative in tone. This was notably higher than the negative coverage recorded for previous administrations during similar introductory.”

    2. What does negative mean? Trump has done and said a lot of twisted shit, including his massive corruption, more so than any previous administration. So, that tracks.

But Scarborough is specifically talking about coverage of Trump’s degraded mental condition. For example, you never see coverage of him, falling asleep in every public meeting that he attends.

Yes, but given the stupidity of Trump's actions, this % should be much higher. The 62% figure proves Scarborough's point.

    5. And Biden never got good press after he followed the Trump/Pompeo surrender to the Taliban. So what, Trump is a complete fucking idiot that wants Iran to blow your dum ass up.

    6. Hector -There's no way to prove what percentage of Trump's action are stupid, but IMO a pretty high percentage are effective. (If you said a large percentage of his words are stupid, I would have agreed with you.)

Here are some Trump actions that I consider unusually smart. I won't call them brilliant, but they are things that other Presidents would not have done, but which turned out to work. Closing the Southern border. Bringing back merit-based personnel decisions. Recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Assassinating Soleimani, establishing an effective embargo on Iran's oil exports. Breaking Iran's embargo by getting the oil we want past the Strait of Hormuz. I even predict that the current war with Iran will succeed in preventing them from obtaining nuclear weapons, but time will tell.

    7. Trump's policies are effective at increasing wealth inequality, giving tax break to fat cats, increasing unemployment, causing a recession for the bottom 90%, starting unnecessary wars, having more polluted air and water, earning himself and his family billions of dollars at the expense of American citizens, ignoring a genocide, supporting Putin, increasing inflation, increasing gas prices, increasing grocery prices, increasing heating prices, making Americans and the world less safe, promoting racism, sexism, and xenophobia, making Republicans look bad, losing Republican control of Congress, eliminating healthcare and hospitals and life saving medical research, giving Netanyahu whatever he wants, making America look weak, on and on, etc.

That is an argument from incredulity, a logical fallacy. Your gut feelings mean nothing, especially yours because you are obviously biased. You still have all your work ahead of you to effectively argue this point. Nobody should pay any attention to you.

    11. Trump's economic policies have been good for Americans. Trump's tariffs are paying off.
American paychecks are growing even faster than prices are rising.

Real weekly wages rose 0.3 percent in August compared with a year earlier, the third straight month of inflation-adjusted year-over-year pay gains. Real weekly wages were higher than a year earlier in June and July after dipping in April and May.

    12. Great news!
The huge federal deficit Trump tripled is no longer an obstacle to hiring enough immigration judges to handle the backlog of immigrant cases.
People who understand things believe this will help the country process more immigration cases at a more rapid pace---which will lead to less illegal immigration.

Thank you Mr. President (for making bigots stop pretending they give a shit about the deficit).

      • Wage Growth: Nominal wages increased by about 3.1% to 3.2%.”

Sure, sure. In 2020 Dumbocrat bosses installed a brain-dead figurehead for president, and maintained (autopened) this arrangement for 4 years.

And now, since the moment it became obvious to everyone that the Dumbocrat King is (and had been for years) brain-dead, all they do is projecting their shame onto everyone else.

OK, I'm flummoxed. When our host complained about the reporting of Trump's remarks earlier, I concluded he thought reporters had unfairly conflate "take out a city" with "small price to pay."

But noe Our Host continues his complaint when Scarborough is careful not to run those two thoughts together.

Trump was talking about high fuel prices being a small price to pay and he did say "Let them take Los Angeles, let them take San Diego. "

So I'm stumped. What did Scarborough say that wasn't accurate?

    1. Apparently what was said is that high gas prices is a small price to pay to prevent "them" from taking out a city.

More or less the usual rhetorical bullshit ('fight "them" there or we'll have to fight "them" here'), but nothing remarkable, let alone scandalous.

      Delete
    2. But it is not the usual bullshit. The usual bullshit was the bullshit suggestion that Iran would use a nuke on Israel if they ever got one. But our carnival barker in chief, Donald J Chickenshit, has such utter contempt for his basket of deplorable cult fans that he just decided to raise the ante and see if they stay in the game. And lo and behold, they fucking cheered at the suggestion. These fucking yokels from Nebraska fucking cheered at the mention of Iran nuking L.A. No one could have ever predicted they would react that stupidly.

    3. When I first read the words I was willing to buy Somerby's take on the remarks. Then I saw the video. There is no mistaking the intent, which got a very good reception from the deplorables in the audience. Somerby knows what he is doing here..

It probably was the most remarkable and extraordinary claim ever made since Colin Powell embarrassed this country by lying to the United Nations to provide Junior Bush a pretext to invade Iraq.

Believe it or not but we have incredible intelligence apparatus and no one ever suggested Iran could nuke the west coast of the USA until Captain Orange Chickenshit pulled that notion straight out of his fat ass.
