In our view, she chose an unfortunate name: Concern about Medicaid coverage is OUT! By now, it's long, long gone.
In its place, focus on the Jeffrey Epstein client list is now very much IN.
The zone gets flooded with amazing speed at this point. Also, does anything around here ever make any real sense?
We now have major Democratic politicians calling for the release of the Epstein files. Does the work of the Justice Department really proceed in some such manner? After some sort of investigation, does the DOJ release a mountain of files about the various people who aren't being charged with crimes—most of whom, with great likelihood, may have done nothing wrong?
Is that the way the system works? We're going to guess that it isn't! Meanwhile, in her new column for the New York Times, Michelle Goldberg offers this portrait of the way some of us imperfect humans are sometimes inclined to behave:
Trump’s Fans Forgive Him Everything. Why Not Epstein?
[...]
Epstein was a major subject at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit, a conservative conference that began on Friday. Speaking from the stage in Tampa, Fla., the comedian Dave Smith accused Trump of actively covering up “a giant child rapist ring.” The audience cheered and applauded.
Having nurtured conspiracy theories for his entire political career, Trump suddenly seems in danger of being consumed by one. In many ways it’s delicious to watch, but there’s also reason for anxiety, because for some in Trump’s movement, this setback is simply proof that they’re up against a conspiracy more powerful than they’d ever imagined.
[...]
[T]he administration lies all the time—that alone doesn’t explain why this issue has so tested the MAGA coalition. To understand why it’s such a crisis, you need to understand the crucial role that Epstein plays in the mythologies buttressing MAGA. The case is of equal interest to QAnon types, who see in Epstein’s crimes proof of their conviction that networks of elite pedophiles have hijacked America, and of right-wing critics of Israel, who are convinced that Epstein worked for the Mossad, the country’s spy service.
Trumpism has always been premised on the idea that he’s warring against dark, even satanic globalist forces, and within the movement there’s a fierce yearning for the cathartic moment when those forces will be exposed and vanquished. The Epstein files were supposed to show the world, once and for all, the scale of the evil system that [some of] Trump’s voters believe he is fighting.
We've added two important words in that fine sentence. As Goldberg specified earlier, we're speaking here about some of President Trump's voters. We aren't speaking about all such voters, probably not even most.
That to the side, so it seems to go in these latter days. For starters, consider this:
In the aftermath of the so-called "democratization of media," bro comedians have seized control of much of the American discourse. That extends all the way from the Fox News Channel on down.
In that passage, one comedian is quoted accusing Trump of covering up "a giant child rapist ring." Is something like that taking place in the various twists and turns of this current convoluted legal case?
We have no idea. But as "democratization" has crept across the land, major portions of American discourse have been built around such fears, starting with the pictures of children on milk cartons and proceeding through the amazingly bungled preschool sex abuse trials of the 1980s.
Out in Los Angeles, the McMartin preschool case may have been the most famous. To refresh yourself about its strange evidentiary procedures, you can just click here.
Back in New Jersey, the Wee Care preschool case also seemed to turn on hysterical investigative procedures. Writing for Harper's, Dorothy Rabinowitz performed important journalism concerning that case. Somehow, the apparent fever surrounding these (and other) cases seemed to break at some point.
From there, it was onward toward QAnon's belief that the world is in the hands of a bunch of Democratic Party child sex abusers who are also cannibals. A pleasing summer on cable news pre-convicting Gary Condit helped us transition to that point, though that case focused on an intern.
A remarkable number of people seemed to accept the improbable claims at the heart if the QAnon craze. This seems to be one of the ways we imperfect humans are sometimes inclined to think.
In short, the democratization of media, producing the ease with which such fevers can be spread, has helped create a world in which what may have been secret or latent fears are secret or latent no more. The widespread acceptance of such improbable claims reveals what may be a surprising fact:
There seems to be nothing so implausible that many of us imperfect humans may not be inclined to believe it.
What secret fears lurk in the hearts of people? Today, thanks to democratization, few such secrets are left:
Was Barack Obama born in Kenya? For an amazing percentage of GOP voters, saying it seemed to make it so—and the current president made himself the king of the birthers through years of spreading braindead claims at the Fox News Channel.
Was the 2020 election rigged and stolen? The sitting president still hotly advances that claim, again and again and again and again. Many of his voters still seem to regard this claim as true, even after it has generally been abandoned by employees of that same "cable news" channel.
It's long been easy for those of us in Blue America to mock the voters in Red America who seem prepared to believe whatever the president says. That said, have there been any tiny flaws in our own Blue America's game—tiny flaws which may have helped the sitting president end up in the White House again?
We Blues have found it very hard to see the things we may have done to help the current sitting president attain his current status. We humans are gifted with limited cognition, and that's even true Over Here!
Why might someone who isn't crazy vote for Donald J. Trump? In our view, the answers are many and the answers are obvious—to everyone except maybe Us.
At this site, we thought of that hole in Blue America's game as we listened to the first episode of yet another new podcast. More accurately, we thought of that hole in Blue America's game when we saw the name of the podcast—the name its creator chose:
The Best People with Nicolle Wallace
Who are The Best People? They’re the most magnetic and engaging people in the room; the ones who know how to get that extra something out of every collaboration, connection, and endeavor. These are people who are the best at what they do and know how to bring out the best in others. Now, in an era of social and political upheaval, The Best People share lessons that we can all use. Listen as Nicolle Wallace seeks varied perspectives on how to keep reaching for truth, decency, and connection.
Wallace will be speaking with "The Best People!" When the analysts saw that name, they furiously tore at their hair, then ran out into the yard.
For the record, Nicolle Wallace is a good, decent person. (She's also wealthy by this time, a small voice sardonically says.) She's been a major part of the American discourse ever since the early years of this century. The leading authority on her career starts its portrait as shown:
Nicolle Wallace
Nicolle Wallace (born February 4, 1972) is an American television political commentator and author. She is the anchor of the MSNBC news and politics program Deadline: White House and a former co-host of the ABC daytime talk show The View.....
In her former political career, Wallace served as the White House Communications Director during the second term of the presidency of George W. Bush and as the Communications Director for his 2004 re-election campaign. Wallace also served as a senior advisor for John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign.
[...]
Since May 9, 2017, Wallace has been the anchor of the afternoon news and opinion program Deadline: White House on MSNBC. Deadline: White House garnered a total of 2 million viewers in July 2020, and in the following month, it was expanded to two hours.
Going back to her Republican days, Wallace has always been an extremely engaging "communicator." She has remained extremely engaging in the years since she, along with quite a few others, walked away from the GOP during these Donald Trump years.
MSNBC and CNN have slowly been routed by Fox in the "cable news" ratings wars. As this rout has developed, Deadline: White House has been one of MSNBC's most heavily watched programs.
During the Biden years, the program focused heavily on the legal cases being brought against former President Trump. We thought that was poor political judgment. In fairness to Wallace, no one has perfect political judgment, except quite possibly us.
Wallace started out in the GOP; she switched over long ago. She's an extremely engaging communicator and also a good, decent person.
That said, we've long thought that her political judgment may have been faulty during the Deadline years. No one has perfect judgment, and that even includes us Blues.
That said, even as many in the MAGA movement may seem to believe the darnedest things, those of us in Blue America may have holes in our game too.
This brings us back to Wallace's podcast, which she calls The Best People. The analysts screamed and tore at their hair when they learned about that choice.
After that, they ran out into the yard, where they rent their garments and howled. We thought they were overdoing it just a bit, but we did see their basic point.
In our view, we Blues can learn about the holes which may exist in our game as we listen to, or as we watch, this new podcast's first episode.
Tomorrow: Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow! (Or so the analysts said...)
Steven Pinker is innocent.
ReplyDeleteSteven Pinker gave polling data to the Russians.
DeleteRussians are black-mailing Trump with a photo of him smiling, lovingly, at a black child.
DeleteThis is why guys who participate in sex trafficking find it difficult to get a security clearance. It may be that Trump has been denied one all these years, so that is why he never gets those security briefings.
DeletePinker's pernicious support for neoliberalism, race realism, rape realism, and general misogyny aside...
DeletePinker is on the client list/flight logs.
A witness testified under oath that she "serviced" Pinker when he visited Epstein's island.
Pinker offered support for Epstein's legal defense, even though he was already a convicted pedo.
Pinker is guilty.
You disagree with him on science and politics. No problem. But then you make a false accusation. Big problem.
DeleteHe was on a flight to California to give a TED talk. He never flew to Epstein’s island.
If that witness were telling the truth, a feminist lawyer would have her suing him by now.
Helping a defendant get a fair trial is not a crime and doesn’t prove guilt in other crimes.
Pinker is innocent.
Pinker loves playing with pubescent girls privates.
DeletePicker poked preteen prostitutes.
Delete"Helping a defendant get a fair trial is not a crime and doesn’t prove guilt in other crimes." Doesn't not make it fucking gross.
DeleteIf you add-up all the seconds the media really believed Conservatives were against the child-trafficking of little girls, you'd have to round it up to get two.
DeleteThere is too much evidence of Pinker's involvement to assume he is innocent without investigation. A person of Pinker's stature would not voluntarily provide support to the defense attorney of an unsavory child molester if he had no connection with Epstein's activities. This is a busy man who jeopardizes his own reputation by helping Epstein's defense that way.
DeleteThe burden of proof is on the accuser.
DeleteIf the rich and powerful are embarrassed by their own bad acts, it will deter them from continuing to abuse children and it will prevent others from following their example. It would be nice to prosecute everyone who participated in Epstein's crimes but that may not be practical given the reluctance to prosecute Epstein himself and the time that has passed while Trump has shielded him. Failure to prove a crime doesn't undo that crime or its consequences for the victims. I don't think Pinker deserves the benefit of the doubt given the existing evidence that he at a minimum hung around with Epstein and abetted his wrongdoing. Men who do this stuff should be shunned not admired.
Delete"N'ya, n'ya, n'ya said the little fox
DeleteN'ya, n'ya, ya can't catch me"
This business with Epstein is not a game. Young women were hurt, including Virginia Giuffre who committed suicide recently. Whoever is here thumbing his nose at us because Pinker perhaps cannot be proven to have been one of Epstein's clients is a fool who thinks it is fun to taunt those who take these crimes seriously, as Trump and his crew do not seem to.
I do not understand how anyone could have voted for Trump after seeing that photo of Trump and Epstein leering at teens like that. But Republicans seem to have different standards. Trump's lechery is proven and he condemned himself with his own words, if that was necessary for anyone to hear (see the pussy tape). Women vote Democratic because Democrats take them, and sex crimes, seriously. If Republicans cannot do the same, they will continue to lose women's votes, and perhaps some men too, if they have daughters or care about the dignity of the Republican party.
People are getting fed up with this crap.
A really bad way to deal with this crap is to make false accusations.
Delete"Having nurtured conspiracy theories for his entire political career, Trump suddenly seems in danger of being consumed by one. In many ways it’s delicious to watch"
ReplyDeleteSo many ways. My TDS levels are at an all-time high. Simply scrumptious.
It isn't a "conspiracy theory" if it is true.
DeleteConspiracies can be real and theories can be true.
DeleteThat's why you test theories against evidence. The problem with conspiracy theories is (1) they are not tested, (2) they are falsified but the true believers do not change their minds about the theory, (3) the theory itself is unfalsifiable, which means there is no possible evidence that would make the theory false, so there is no way to test it.
DeleteSchizophrenic and delusional thought is characterized by a refusal to consider any evidence that would challenge their delusions. Trump's latest statement about Hillary inventing the Epstein Files is an example of how delusional people invent beliefs to preserve their delusions from challenges by reality.
ReplyDeleteNicolle Wallace, the Typhoid Mary of Disinformation? Nice.
"Was Barack Obama born in Kenya?"
Well, that's what he, Barack Obama, himself told his literary agent to print in the brochure promoting his beautiful prose. I trust Barack Obama.
"The Epstein files were supposed to show the world, once and for all, the scale of the evil system that [some of] Trump’s voters believe he is fighting."
Only if those "files" demonstrate the the globalist conspiracy of moving American industries abroad, replacing American workers with illegals, and such. Do they?
I doubt it. Sexual escapades of the good-decents of the world (recorded for the CIA and Mossad) is what idiot-Democrats are crazy about (metoo, anyone?), not Trump’s voters.
No one is crazy about Trump's voters.
DeleteEver listen to them?
They can barely stand themselves.
No, no, no. There was genuine hanky-panky going on with Obama's birthplace:
Delete“I have people that have been studying [Obama’s birth certificate] and they cannot believe what they’re finding" - Donald Trump, 3-30-2011
Which do you suppose will be released first, the Epstein files or the 'unbelievable' things Trump's investigators were finding?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
If the only evidence people have that Obama was born in Kenya is a confused writer of a book blurb (these are not highly paid staff at publishing houses), then this was a ridiculous vendetta against Obama. Only someone like Trump would consider being born in Africa a liability, given his view that Africa is nothing but shithole countries (excluding South Africa). That's why this is a racist attack on Obama, not just political noise. It was their way of reminding everyone that he is black.
DeleteNo one cared whether Kamala Harris was part-Indian. The scandal over her biracial identity was similarly just to remind voters that she too was black.
Obama had nothing to do with the blurb in that PR pamphlet.
DeleteObama was born in Hawaii.
Cope.
Yeah, right, Soros-bot. I already know y'all are retards, no need to confirm it every few minutes.
Delete"An earlier version of a promotional booklet printed in 1991 by his literary agent, Dystel & Goderich, incorrectly listed his birthplace as Kenya. However, an agency partner later stated this was a fact-checking error and no information provided by Obama suggested he was born in Kenya." I remember an asshole coworker pumping Obama Kenya emails. I responded with two HI newspaper microfiche records of his birth. That was when I learned what pieces of total shit Trumpets be.
DeleteAh, an agency partner later "stated" something? Of course. Since I'm a retard that's enough for me; I'm convinced now.
DeleteIf you had evidence that Obama ever claimed he was born somewhere other than the US, you could present it.
DeleteInstead, the evidence demonstrates that Obama was born in the US and that Obama never claimed he was born outside the US.
Yet you, ostensibly, deny yourself reality and keep yourself deluded. At best, you are an ignorant moron. More likely, you know Obama was born in the USA, and are trying to soothe your emotional discomfort from having your dominance challenged by attempting to "own the libs". In reality you are just "owning" yourself.
womp womp
DeleteHello? Is anybody home, retard? I do have evidence: it's Obama's own brochure promoting his book.
12:41: Quick, grab your gun. That Pizza place Panetta and Clinton used to traffic children is still operational. When you enter the front door, go directly to the basement.
DeleteEven Obama’s supporters admit he was born on an island in the Pacific Ocean.
DeleteSee what I mean about them being complete fucking weirdo assholes? I have this scrap of a non story and that is what I am sticking with because I am an asshole and bigot. Just useless human beings. Worse than useless, they work to harm people.
Delete2:46, Driftglass has a term he uses to describe them.
Delete"The Tribe that Rubs Shit in Their Hair"
As long as they are around each other they don't realize how fucked up and weird they are. But get them outside their bubble. It shorts their brain out.
"Hello? Is anybody home, retard? I do have evidence: it's Obama's own brochure promoting his book."
DeleteCan you link us to The Daily Retard so we can see for ourselves?
Wow, you convinced me. Of all the dumb ass arguments on Hussein's birth, you cling to the dumbest. But don't worry, after 16 years, Trump's lawyers are getting close.
Delete
DeleteDumb ass or not, I trust Barack Obama when he defines himself as "born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii" in his own promotional booklet.
You, Soros-bot, may call Barack Obama a lair, that's your business.
"After some sort of investigation, does the DOJ release a mountain of files about the various people who aren't being charged with crimes—most of whom, with great likelihood, may have done nothing wrong?"
ReplyDeleteJeffrey Epstein was not tried a second time because he was dead, not because he or anyone else was innocent. That thwarts justice not just for Epstein but also for the victims of his crimes. We know he would have been convicted because of that mountain of evidence and because he was convicted the first time around, when he managed a plea deal arranged by the same kind of power brokers that enabled him to keep abusing young girls.
This doesn't seem like a travesty to Somerby because his concern is with the wealthy and powerful men who were shielded by Epstein's death. Obviously, Epstein had clients and friends who participated in crimes against young women with him on his plane and his Island and elsewhere. They did not stop doing what they do when Epstein died. They have so far escaped justice too. But these ongoing crimes are not Somerby's concern. He is worried about the men whose reputations may be harmed by association with Epstein. Why was no one concerned about that damage when they chose to hang around with Epstein while he was alive and trafficking? To what extent have those powerful men made their own beds when it comes to publicity now?
I am a big Bill Clinton fan. I don't believe that he would have been involved in sex trafficking young girls simply by riding on an airplane, but if it turns out there are photos of him leering at teens while Epstein smirks, then so be it and my opinion of him will change, as it should.
Somerby finds it much easier to put himself into the shoes of those "innocent" bystanders in Epstein's life, than he does those of young girls being used by men in a sexual abuse ring. Those girls are the victims, not the men who were Epstein's friends and who have protected his circle for many years. But Somerby empathizes with the men. This is why women have had a difficult time obtaining trials much less convictions for sex crimes in the past. Because bros before hos, as the saying goes. And Somerby is lining up with the bros today. No surprise there.
It is time to clear the air about this sort of abuse by the wealthy and powerful. It starts with revealing who helped Epstein, who were his clients, and if that leads to the President, so be it too.
This is about justice and it should serve as a warning to the men with money who think that gives them the right to abuse whoever they want. The law needs to be enforced for all or it serves as no deterrent, especially for sociopaths with money. We know that Trump has a Hannibal Lecter fixation. We just don't know what subconscious motives keep him talking about it. It seems obvious to me that Trump is a bad man who has led a bad life. We just don't know how bad.
It is perhaps appropriate to remind everyone that Virginia Giuffre died of suicide, a lingering effect of Epstein's abuse. This clearly isn't over for the girls. Why should it be for the men?
Well said.
DeleteSteven Pinker is innocent.
DeleteHe gave polling data to the Russians.
DeleteVG killed herself because her husband left her and successfully took the kids per the courts. Look it up.
DeleteI'm convinced that most of these sex-panic addicts that Bob is subtly referring too -- including the entire MSNBC crowd -- would be demanding capital punishment for the McMartins if that case were going on now.
That's how nuts and paranoid things have gotten.
Labeling the belief that Epstein was guilty a conspiracy theory is wrong. He pled guilty to sex trafficking. His accomplice, Maxwell, was found guilty too and Trump doesn't dare to pardon her. The question is who were Epstein's clients. The right believes they were highly placed Democrats. I think Trump knows there were a lot of Republicans involved too. Those are the ones he doesn't want revealed, along with his own participation.
ReplyDeleteI tend to believe Musk when he said that this is a coverup of crime involving a lot of rich and powerful men. I would favor appointment of a special prosecutor to review the files, but that resulted in a cover up the first time Epstein was accused. Now there is a potential murder to be investigated too.
I am enjoying the irony of Somerby's statement that the #metoo movement is dead. That seems like wishful thinking now that the right and the left are united in the desire to know who else was involved in Epstein's sex trafficking. I personally doubt it was Hillary but YMMV. Doesn't she deserve to be exonerated by letting the truth be known? Or does Somerby only care about those guys who were somehow in the wrong place at the wrong time not thinking about sex at all?
Hillary Clinton is innocent.
DeleteShe gave polling data to the Russians.
DeleteI think the whole thing is exaggerated. And exactly what is "sex trafficking"?
DeleteThe definition keeps changing, and why is that?
The idea that Epstein was engaging in some kind of white slavery/prostitution ring there on his island is not confirmed anywhere, but that seems to be the automatic media (and MAGA and MSNBC) presumption.
He and she got nailed for flying people back and forth, some of it for sexual purposes, and some of them were minors but not all. That was about it.
I'm much more interested in how he made his money and with whom-- but apparently, no one else is now. That's the true "client list" but it's one that no one is talking about.
Over the weekend Trump informed us the Epstein files were written by "Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden Administration.”
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of dopes would fall for such an obvious flim-flam? All of Trump's supporters, that's who!
Too much fun.
I have such utter contempt for trump maggots, but not anywhere near the level of contempt Trump has for his lickspittle fans.
DeleteThe media could learn a thing or two from Trump's disdain for his suckers.
DeleteI've been wondering about that myself. It'll be interesting to see how many of Trump's cultists will turn on a dime and start clamoring for an investigation into "fake" Epstein files.
DeleteI suspect most of them will just shrug off this little outburst of weirdness, and instead focus on the "great job" Trump is doing.
Quite a few MAGAs are seriously upset by this situation.
DeleteSomerby has the nerve to knock Nicolle Wallace and defend keeping the Epstein files secret in the same essay?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I think her podcast title, which Somerby criticizes but doesn't tell us what the name is, intends the word "best" to refer to the podcast itself, not the guests being interviewed. She is promoting a new podcast that is trying to gain traction. Its theme is like People Magazine, to focus on social news about the people who are being interviewed. People Magazine didn't have to call itself "Best" because it had little to no competition for that niche when it was launched. But Somerby has to make a snide remark about Wallace's attempt to compete in a crowded field. But she has to put some word in front of "People" in order to make it clear what is being referred to, avoiding confusion with People Magazine and other podcasts with the word People in their names.
But this is Somerby being an asshole again, to someone he dislikes, one of his favorite targets (female journalists who are more successful than he his).
She's a phony. An overwrought, ex GOP phony.
Delete"her podcast title, which Somerby criticizes but doesn't tell us what the name is, intends the word "best" to refer to the podcast itself, not the guests being interviewed."
ReplyDeletea) Bob does tell us the podcast name, in bold headline print; and
b) The 'Best' in 'Best People' does describe the guests being interviewed, which can easily be learned if you follow the link Bob helpfully provided.
Other than that you nailed it.
"DESPERATELY SEEKING THE BEST: Nicolle Wallace has started a podcast!"
DeleteThat is not the name of Wallace's new podcast.
Then Somerby says:
"In our view, she chose an unfortunate name: Concern about Medicaid coverage is OUT! By now, it's long, long gone. "
No link to the name, no mention of what the name is. Then he shifts to talking about Michelle Goldberg. Yes, he returns to Wallace later in his essay, and gives the name of her podcast there, but why all the mystery at the beginning when readers want to know that name? And the colon after the phrase about her name being unfortunate, followed by crap about Medicaid, which has nothing to do with anything.
Can Somerby no longer hold and follow a coherent train of thought in his head. This is like stream of consciousness, where he got distracted by his own thought about flooding the zone, completely drops Wallace in mid-sentence, misuses that colon, and doesn't get back on his initial topic until halfway through the piece.
This isn't writing. It is self-indulgent meandering through the weeds of his own mind. There is nothing here for anyone who thinks Somerby is writing to communicate.
Perhaps this idiocy doesn't bother you because you already knew the name of her podcast, in which case you might read right past the intro, but this is not how a competent writer functions. And because Somerby seems to get lost in his own thoughts, how competent is he to evaluate Wallace's performance, much less her new podcast?
And no, I didn't think it was a good use of my time to read down through the rest of Somerby's crap to find out whether he ever mentions Wallace again. A reader shouldn't have to do that.
Somerby is no longer cognitive. It’s sad.
Delete"In our view, she chose an unfortunate name: Concern about Medicaid coverage is OUT! By now, it's long, long gone. "
DeleteYour quote doesn't show that the first sentence is a header, not part of the main text.
But let's be real: you just want to dig your claws into Somerby and these benighted nitpicks are the way to do that.
I don't know how to modify text in comments but the part I quoted as a headline is bold in Somerby's essay. You should be able to see that for yourself.
DeleteNicolle Wallace does not claim to be a Democrat. She worked in Republican politics before becoming an on-screen journalist. She is married to a Republican investigative journalist. She may best be characterized as a never-Trumper, but she calls herself a "self-loathing Republican".
ReplyDeleteSomerby doesn't tell you that. He instead implies that she is a turncoat because she works for MSNBC (which is not a lefty network). Somerby's criticism of Wallace is unwarranted unless you believe that all on-screen personalities must fit into neat easily recognizable niches.
I get it that someone like Somerby, who is trying to portray himself as a lefty, might think he can make himself seem liberal by applying a purity test to Wallace, but many of us do not go around labeling who we watch by party but instead by quality of reporting. Somerby refers to Wallace as "engaging," much as he praised Harris for her smile, but being personable is not what journalism is about and it is not why she has an audience.
Somerby says Fox News routed MSNBC. It didn't help that Rachel Maddow left, but unlike Fox, the mainstream cable news stations are not the main source of information for Democrats. The left does not have a designated propaganda outlet the way the right does.
Full disclosure: I like Nicolle Wallace. I do not like Somerby. Unlike Wallace, Somerby has no integrity.
If she’s a Republican, she has no integrity.
DeleteThat isn't true. Liz Cheney showed that she had integrity despite holding different opinions on many issues. She risked her political career on joining the J6 Committee and impeaching Trump for his attempted coup. There are other Republicans who have similarly shown courage under pressure, which is an example of integrity.
DeleteSomerby is trying to portray Fox as entirely red and MSNBC/CNN as blue media. The few Republicans who are still working at those cable networks undermine Somerby's pleasing narrative. I think it matters more what Wallace says, not what label she uses to describe her own politics.
Just as with Somerby, who calls himself liberal but fails to support important liberal positions, should be judged by his words and behavior, not by his self-applied label. Somerby won't judge Trump for telling a lie because who knows whether he actually believes what he is saying. Similarly, who is Somerby to claim that Wallace is not Republican because she says something he finds hypocritical compared to her past views. Somerby has no idea if she has changed her mind about issues but just assumes she is being opportunistic, without a single glance into her mind or heart.
Supreme Court allows Trump to proceed with mass firings at Education Department
ReplyDeleteIn a scathing dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the court’s senior liberal member, said her colleagues had made an “indefensible” decision to let Trump proceed with taking apart an agency that ordinarily can be dismantled only by Congress.
Congress? How fucking quaint. What need does a fucking chickenshit King have for a Congress? He wipes with the Constitution every damn day as he strides thru history committing impeachable offenses every fucking day.
He wipes his fat criminal treasonous ass with the Constitution every damn day
DeleteWhat Chapter of Project 2025 outlines the plan to squash the DOE, Dickhead in Cal? Remember the Project 2025 that Prince Orange Chickenshit has no knowledge of and no plans to implement?
Delete@12:21 - Closing the Dept of Educ has been a conservative goal for many decades.
DeleteNo you fucking liar David. Their goal is to monetize public funds for private education and fuck over poor kids. Killing the DOE is a step for the evil fucks.
DeleteClosing the Dept of Educ has been a conservative goal for many decades.
DeleteThen let Congress pass a law to "close" the DOE, you hideous fascist fucking Dickhead.
"Closing the Dept of Educ has been a conservative goal for many decades."
DeleteAs has bringing back lynchings.
The corrupt SC 6 are a bunch of punk cowards also, they issue this bullshit "shadow docket" ruling that doesn't even address the core issue. But letting Prince Orange Chickenshit fire all these people before even ruling on the core issue, the deed is done and Chickenshit Alito can say his fingerprints aren't on the catastrophe the will result.
DeleteThe next Democrat president should fire the Supreme Court.
DeleteTrump doesn't need to fire the SC because he already owns a majority. That means he can use them to rubber stamp his most extreme acts, setting aside the Constitution and Congress.
DeleteThat’s why the Supremes have got to go.
DeleteGoldberg wrote, "Trumpism has always been premised on the idea that he’s warring against dark, even satanic globalist forces." Does she not realize that this accusation is even or descriptive of the Dems? Has she not noticed that the large bulk of Harris's and Biden's campaigns was accusing Trump and his people of being evil?
ReplyDeleteWell, "globalist" doesn't fit.
DeleteDescribing one's opponents as "globalists" is rational, while describing one's opponents as "Hitlers" and what-not is just retarded.
If the foo shits, wear the evil you nasty bigoted Democracy hating assholes.
DeleteFor Republicans "globalist" is code for "Jew".
DeleteBecause few people are more globalist than Trump, especially since he burned all his US bridges by lying to get loans that he then squandered by going bankrupt so many times, Trump has had no choice but to turn to global entities to fund his scams.
The issue is not "globalism" or "immigrants", the issue is that fat cats born with silver spoons are hoarding all the wealth, power, and resources.
Biden/Harris/Dems do not argue that Trump is evil, they argue that Trump is corrupt and a criminal, borne from his tortured upbringing, a victim of unearned generational wealth and generational abuse, a cycle Trump has not broken, as his kids continue to engage in corrupt and criminal behavior.
Has she not noticed that the large bulk of Harris's and Biden's campaigns was accusing Trump and his people of being evil?
DeleteYou made that up out of whole cloth, David. Have you noticed that every time a reporter asks Trump a question that puts him on the spot, he calls the reporter a nasty and evil person?
Trump is a chickenshit bully punk. That is what Dickhead in Cal likes most about him.
Delete'"Goldberg wrote, "Trumpism has always been premised on the idea that he’s warring against dark, even satanic globalist forces." Does she not realize that this accusation is even or (sic) descriptive of the Dems?"'
DeleteShe does not realize this because it's not true.
A large chunk of the Trump base is QANON (28% of all Republicans). These people will tell you that not only do Democratic leaders molest children but that they eat them afterwards. There is no comparable belief on the Democratic side.
DeleteWhoa, listening to you, 3:09, one gets the impression that these mythical QANON are positively evil.
I wouldn't call QANON a force for good in the world.
DeleteHey 3:14, just got the news that Elvis and JFK Jr. are coming to Dallas tomorrow. Meet you there man!
DeleteThere seems to be something in human psychology that wants to see witches. The two cases Bob mentions are examples. Everyone should read the witch chapter in
ReplyDeleteExtraordinary Popular Delusions and The Madness of Crowds. So far only a couple of witches have been identified in the Epstein affair. Even rumor are enough to hurt a person's reputation. If actual visitors to Epstein's island are identified, those persons will be crucified. The mob is anxiously was waiting for them
I can't believe the media took the Republican Party's hilarious joke about being against the sex traffic trade serious.
DeleteThe media has no sense of humor.
Cecelia is a witch. She used to comment here.
DeleteShe gave polling data to the Russians.
DeleteDiC is an evil warlock protecting his coven of witches. Pretty much explains everything.
DeleteSomerby rails against the democratization of media and the Blues, but to buttress his insipid, incoherent argument, he only references Fox News - corporate right wing media outlet, and Wallace - longtime Republican spokesperson.
ReplyDeleteOw ow ow.
What happened to Somerby's brain?
What is an insipid argument?
DeleteAn insipid argument is almost as boring as you.
DeleteThat’s not a clear explanation of an “insipid argument”.
DeleteYou're boring.
DeletePolitically, Democrats should be content to let this saga playout inside the MAGA cult. Let them fight amongst each other and with Trump. It's already happening. This is why Trump has made an unhinged post on Truth Social, which Democrats should try to amplify. Any half-way sane person should be able to recognize it for the gyrations of an unstable mind in throes of onsetting old-age dementia.
ReplyDeleteFrom the legal perspective, it'll be interesting to see the maneuvers that Maxwell's lawyers will embark upon. That's a wildcard in this debacle.
Other than that, Dems should return to pounding on Medicaid cuts and the destruction of the Department of Education. The objective is to steer normal people towards the Democrats.
I know you said "politically," but there are major crimes involved that should be the focus of law enforcement. Politically, allowing Trump and his crew to cover this up would be wrong. Further, there are impeachable offenses involved that should motivate Congress to impeach and remove Trump with the blessings of both parties. This is serious malfeasance.
DeleteTrump has given Maxwell an argument with the Supreme Court. I expect that the govt will file a token objection to her appeal but that the conservatives on the court will overturn her conviction. That is the logical conclusion to the corruption that has already occurred. I think this is a foregone conclusion, not a wildcard.
Normal people are against sex trafficking of minors. The issue may not be as important to you as Medicaid cuts etc., but women feel strongly about it when rich men get away with crimes against underage girls. Perhaps a few fathers will too. We Democrats did not do the crimes in the Epstein files and we did not create the client list (as Trump is now claiming Dems did). We are the believers in law because without law there is tyranny. Trump cannot be allowed to get away with the stuff in the Epstein files by simply disappearing them and blaming Hillary.
Alan Dershowitz, who knows the actual facts, shared some information about the alleged client list.
ReplyDelete“Dershowitz answered "No," that there was no "client list" - as in something made by Jeffrey Epstein.
What there is, is a redacted FBI affidavit from accusers. There are several of them. From accusers, that accuse Jeffrey, that accuse various people of having improper sex. And that has been redacted. The names of the people accused have been blacked out.
Dershowitz said because he knew who these people were, "I can tell you right now none of them are public figures who are currently in office. Some of them were previously in office. Some of them are dead. But there is no client list."
He said "two judges in Manhattan" were suppressing the names "largely to protect the alleged accusers," and that's why he can't disclose them.”
Go take a flying fuck, Dickhead trump lickspittle fuckface fascist freak. Dersh who kept his underwear on while getting serviced by underage girls working for his FUCKING CLIENT is not a credible fucking source you fucking fascist freak.
DeleteBelieving Dersh is almost as stupid as believing Trumptarded statements. But again, we are responding to a nit in a hovel in Belarus.
DeleteDershowitz, who knows the actual facts from placing his Pinker where no moral man would...
DeleteSteven Pinker is innocent.
DeleteImagine what kind of gullible mouth-breathing moron one would have to be to listen to the Right speak about anything other than their bigotry, and actually believe it.
DeleteSMDH.
I would say that it's quite likely that there was no "client" list, whatever that meant, which suggests that Trump had been playing his supporters.
DeleteWhat we also know: Trump and Epstein were best friends. There are videos of them clowning together and having a jolly good time, looking at "young women" dancing. Whatever is in those files, it's likely worse for Trump than anyone else.
Other than that, I am hoping that MAGA cult will splinter and continues to devour itself. These people are insane.
Ilya, if there were a sex-related murder in the files, by someone other than Trump, would you still say the files are worse for Trump than anyone else?
DeleteI think Trump's ongoing facilitation of Epstein's trafficking is a major crime because it enabled all of the other activities that may have been going on involving trafficking.
Acosta was the guy who negotiated the non-prosecution agreement with Epstein. He was then appointed to Trump's cabinet in his first term. Pam Bondi was the FL AG who decided not to prosecute Epstein for documented crimes. Trump later hired her as a defense attorney and sent lobbying opportunities her way, until he appointed her AG in this administration, where she is currently running interference for Trump again on this Epstein matter. The people who were friends with Epstein are embedded in Trump's social circle and his presidencies. Why wouldn't the clients be too? I want to know who was involved and I am not a MAGA or Q-Anon believer. I think that where there's smoke there may be fire and I want a real investigation of what happened, including Epstein's supposed suicide.
Anon@6:38 -- When you say a "sex-related murder", do you mean Epstein's death? I am not aware of any other murders related to Epstein.
DeleteI suspect Trump has the most to lose from the entire cache of information being released. This is simply because he was Epstein's close friend for a very long time. Trump probably figures more prominently in Epstein's files than anyone else.
No, it is hypothetical. We don't know all the things that happened in the course of Epstein's trafficking of girls. Some perverts like rough sex, strangulation or asphyxiation and those can get out of hand. People use sex workers or keep sex slaves to do things that women won't usually do of their free will.
DeleteYou claim that what is in the files is likely worse for Trump than anyone else. I think it depends on what they did, for both other clients and Trump.
I see. Well, that's for the FBI to investigate if anyone had been harmed or murdered. Do we trust the FBI and Kash Patel? Certainly not Patel, but presumably there are still some professionals left in that organization.
DeleteI also don't think that there's a "client" list per se. Epstein liked to show off his girls and offer them to his rich guests, but I don't believe that pimping was his main occupation.
Dershowitz has been pretty reliable on this.
DeleteI know that claim infuriates people, but too bad. He's always made sense about this case.
"We don't know all the things that happened in the course of Epstein's trafficking of girls. Some perverts like rough sex, strangulation or asphyxiation and those can get out of hand. People use sex workers or keep sex slaves to do things that women won't usually do of their free will."
DeleteLOL there is no evidence that any of this stuff happened.
Jesus. I so hate these every-ten-years-or-so societal sex panics. People go totally bananas with all their inner fears.
Yea, suicide is dangerous.
DeleteAlan Dershowitz's version of reality will be considered reliable when he is hooked up to a polygraph. So, he says there is no client list. Was he Epstein's personal secretary? Ridiculous, almost as ridiculous as the idea of accepting Dershowitz's word on this matter.
DeleteI don't know if Trump is covering up a scandal re Epstein. If he is, I think he'll get away with it. Clinton would have gotten away with his Lewinsky scandal but for DNA evidence. Nixon would have gotten away with Watergate if he hadn't recorded the evidence of his crimes. At this point, I don't there's any way for Trump's opponents move forward. So, the story will disappear from the news.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the Lewinsky scandal with Clinton? A consensual blowjob with an adult woman?
DeletePS: I think Clinton behaved horribly. I just don't think that it's in any way comparable to the Epstein scandal.
Monica should have kept her mouth shut.
DeleteDavid, you have forgotten details of the Lewinsky scandal. Linda Tripp gave the dress with the DNA to Clinton's enemies, not Monica. Monica should never have told her anything, but she thought Tripp was her friend and trusted her, meanwhile Tripp illegally recorded her on the phone. Clinton's supporters didn't care about Monica but Trump's supporters do care about child sexual abuse, so Trump is in trouble with them. As far as Watergate goes, Nixon was not getting away with anything. The tapes corroborated what witnesses were already telling investigators and proved that Nixon was at the head of the scheme. They revealed other things about Nixon, such as the amount of profanity he used and how he felt about certain people, tarnishing his image. Tame stuff now days.
DeleteEpstein is not going away. Much of the evidence is already in the public record, such as Ghislaine Maxwell's trial depositions, flight logs, photos already public. This story is not going to disappear. The interesting part of the news today is Trump's inability to force it to go away.
More importantly, hard as Ken Starr tried to find a crime in the Lewinsky affair, there wasn't one. There was no perjury. There was nothing, other than bad behavior on a personal level.
Delete"There was no perjury"
DeletePoor retard. Is this what they teach you in the Soros-bot academy?
So, Trump has now instructed Bondi to turn over those papers she deems fit. Let's see how gullible the MAGAs are. Setting up Bondi for their rath was pure Donald Trump. The same is being played out with Trump's inflation setting in and Jerome Powell.
DeleteThere seems to be an organized campaign on the right to get Trump to appoint Matt Gaetz as special prosecutor to release the Epstein files. I think that is a very bad idea because Gaetz was himself being accused of sex trafficking of underage girls. That might make him vulnerable to coercion and blackmail in his capacity of holder of secrets. There would be a lack of trust involved.
ReplyDeleteAccording to polls, 75% of Republicans want the Epstein list made public and 85% of Democrats. Understandably, the Republicans might want to control how that happens but that is exactly why someone impartial should be in charge, given that Trump doesn't seem to want to do it through normal channels via the FBI.
If Trump's name is not on the list, that is how we will know something is fishy.
