Hours later, Boebert rising!

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2022

Tired of all the success: Very frankly, we've begun to get tired of all the winning.

This morning, we noted the fact that Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) was trailing, if by a narrow margin, in her bid for re-election.

A few hours later, she's gone ahead, by 433 votes, with 98 percent counted. At Vanity Fair, it's being treated as perhaps a bit of a win that there may have to be a recount.

However Boebert's race turns out, the GOP will have control of the House and possibly of the Senate. If this is our tribe's idea of a win, we don't want to be there when we lose!

Fuller disclosure: It's still possible that Boebert's opponent, Adam Frisch, will come away with the win. For fuller disclosure, click here.

Meh. Make no mistake about it, dear Bob: this is an amazing, incredible, unbelievable win for your elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness.

...in fact, it's so incredible and unbelievable that we find it hard to believe. Seriously. You need to stop whining -- and rejoice. Celebrate, dear Bob. Celebrate. Okay?

    1. Bob, I'm just a reader of this blog, and yet most of the comments on here make me curse the human race. I can't imagine being the actual owner of the blog. I don't know how you maintain your sanity. You've somehow attracted crazies from both sides of the political spectrum. You have the right-wing crazies like broken-record Dimbot "Mao" repeating all manner of conspiratorial idiocy and presumably rooting for the shit-show known as the GOP. And then you have the left-wing loonies like church lady claiming you're really rooting for the red team, all evidence to the contrary. You have my sympathy, brother. Hang in there.

    2. Speaking of conspiratorial idiocy, did you see this, Dimbot?
"...earlier this week, a judge ordered two leaders of True the Vote, a right-wing organization pushing the voter fraud conspiracy theories at the heart of the debunked film 2000 Mules, to jail for contempt of court. An election logistics software company they have publicly accused of stealing the election for Biden has sued them for defamation; they claim to have evidence of election fraud but have refused to produce it." https://bit.ly/3E0JsB6

    3. Mike, people have told you before — Somerby doesn’t read his comments.

    6. Mike L., I address Bob rhetorically. I do the same thing with several deceased relatives.

Crank out the Wayback Machine, Professor "I told you so" Somerby. You were there: 1994 and 2010 midterms.

  3. Why is Bob picking on Boebert? Clearly the
poor woman has mental health issues.

  4. Bob was being a spoilsport, now he
Is just being sad. It would be interesting
to see a post from someone who
seriously thinks Bob’s tribe is not
    deep red. We’re all ears….

  5. Not only was there not the expected red wave, voters stated that their top issues were abortion and democracy.

To make it worse for Somerby, his electoral strategy that he pushes here regularly was a complete failure: generally speaking the play nice anti woke Dems mostly lost, and the more progressive and woke Dems tended to win.

Even worse for Somerby, he was clearly putting his hopes on a Hispanic vote red wave, which, outside of Florida, was shown to be an empty hope - those Texas latin candidates Somerby taunted us with lost big, the latin vote won PA for the Dems, flipped a seat in New Mexico, etc. Nationally the latin vote was exactly the same as Clinton's in 94, so wipe that smug smirk off your mug Somerby.

Somerby can crow all he wants, but that is what he is eating today, crow.

    1. Do you think we ran a moderate
      against Ron Johnson? Because
      we certainly blew that one.

    2. It was very close and Johnson is a MAGA superstar and an incumbent. He should have won by more.

    3. Um… bit of a dodge there. He is also a well known extremist idiot. Seems to me more moderate candidates will win in some situations, a more progressive one had a better chance in others.

  7. From Political Wire:

"“Overlooked amid frantic punditry about the ‘red ripple’ in Congress: Democrats quietly won and defended majorities in state legislatures across the country, weakening GOP power on issues at the heart of the national political debate,” Axios reports.

“State legislative races are on pace to be the highlight of the Democratic ballot. If Democrats hold on to Nevada, this will be the first time the party in power hasn’t lost a single chamber in the midterms since 1934.”

And yet Somerby insists the Republicans did well. Go figure!

  8. Here is what Taegan Goddard has to say about The Crazy:

    "Crazy Really Is Toxic
November 10, 2022 at 4:14 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 257 Comments

John Ellis: “The more the Republican Party embraces it, enables it, ignores it, pretends it’s not crazy, the more likely it is that ‘persuadable voters’ will vote against them.”

“The attempted murder of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, and the unwillingness of so many Republicans to say anything empathetic about it (lest they annoy former President Trump) was chilling. A short time after the attempted murder of her husband, Trump called Nancy Pelosi ‘an animal.’ That’s crazy politics.”

Goddard adds: Although President Biden was mocked for using the term “MAGA Republicans,” he was actually on to something."

Notice how different this take is from Somerby's nonsense.

  9. Republican Robin Vos says:

“Some of the toxicity of Donald Trump, and the persona that he has made for the Republican Party, has turned off educated people.”

  10. Meanwhile, weak minds are still being influenced by the violent statements made by Republicans during their campaigns:

"An Ohio man shot and killed his neighbor because “he thought he was a Democrat,” the Lexington Herald Leader reports.

Said the victim’s wife: “He’s come over like four times confronting my husband because he thought he was a Democrat.”

  11. "Democratic Secretary of State candidates are outrunning gubernatorial candidates, as Trump's slate of election deniers has been mostly defeated and his plan to steal 2024 has been wrecked."

Somerby has said nothing about this.

  12. Here is an analysis of the red wave reporting by the NY Times in the days leading up to the election. This is what real media criticism (analysis) looks like -- not the shit Somerby writes here:

  13. The thing with the pragmatic, sensible conservatives now is they have no constituency.
    The crackpots, assholes and religious
    fanatics may never abandon Trump.
This could be a good thing for the
    Country.

  14. Boebert is not rising. The votes remaining to be counted are from different sources. Some are local drop box votes and same-day votes that are likely to be conservative. Others are mail-in ballots and military/foreign resident ballots from overseas that are likely to skew Democratic. The counts go back and forth depending on what is being counted and dropped into the results. There are enough votes to overturn Boebert's current slight lead.

That means it is premature for Somerby to tout a Boebert win, and ridiculous for him to claim she will win. 538 has predicted she may lose. Those of us living in CO hope she will lose and think she should lose in a just world. It strikes us as odd that a liberal like Somerby would spend today rooting for Boebert, who is running in a solid red district and STILL losing.

  15. Ha ha, I told you Somerby was full of it with those red wave predictions!

  16. "The importance of that partisan gerrymandering—and the importance of today’s Supreme Court in upholding that gerrymandering—showed up yesterday in the cases of four states in which Republican lawmakers simply refused to change maps that state courts had determined were illegal. In Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Ohio, heavily gerrymandered maps stayed in place despite state court decisions that they were unconstitutional.
Those four states make up almost 10% of the seats in the House of Representatives. According to congressional redistricting specialist David Wasserman of the Cook Political Report, those illegal maps were likely to hand five to seven seats to the Republicans that they would not have won without them. At the same time, Florida governor Ron DeSantis put in place heavily gerrymandered districts—so extreme that the Republican legislature balked—that were expected to turn four seats Republican and create a House delegation more than 70% Republican from a state that Trump won with just over half the vote in 2020." https://bit.ly/3URB7qh
