MONDAY: The way our Blue world can look to the Reds!

MONDAY, AUGUST 31, 2026

What the good person Sellers said: This very morning, we emitted an inexcusable thought.

We referred to something Caroline Sunshine said on CNN last Thursday night.

We admired her for having said it. This was our own account, this very morning, of what was said:

In Red America, the focus will turn to the peculiar (and still unexplained) border policies of the Biden administration. Attention may be drawn—as Caroline Sunshine did last week on CNN—to the rape and murder of girls and young American women by unauthorized immigrants who crossed the unattended southern border during the Biden years.

To see Sunshine's presentation, just click here. (For the CNN transcript, click this.) You'll see Bakari Sellers, a good decent person, interrupt her as he offers one of the irrelevant dodges which have become part of our Blue American array of talking points.

Oops! We cited something Sunshine said, but also an interruption by Sellers, a good decent smart experienced person.

We'll suggest that other decent people should let people like Sunshine talk. Here's what various people said on that evening's CNN NewsNight program:

SUNSHINE (8/27/26): Jocelyn Nungaray was 12 years old.

ABBY PHILLIP: Okay

SUNSHINE: She was strangled under a bridge. And the two guys that did it didn't have any previous deportation

SELLERS: More heterosexual Christian white men kill anybody than illegal immigrants.

SUNSHINE: Every person who is staying here who has not committed an additional crime is a threat and has to go home. And we don't talk about that, and I'm glad to.

PHILLIP: Every person who is killed in this country is a tragedy. Jocelyn Nungaray's death is a terrible tragedy, and those people who responsible for it should 100 percent be held responsible for those crimes.

SUNSHINE: They shouldn't have been here to begin with.

All three are good, decent people. Today, we speak in praise of Caroline Sunshine.

Who was Jocelyn Nungaray? Well known to Reds, disappeared for us Blues, we're sorry to say that her sacred story goes a great deal like this

Killing of Jocelyn Nungaray

On June 16, 2024, at 10 pm, Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old American girl, was sexually assaulted and killed in North Houston, Texas, United States. The case attracted national attention, as two illegal immigrants from Venezuela were charged with her murder. Authorities found her body the next morning in a creek in North Houston and determined she had been raped and murdered by strangulation. Texas prosecutors have indicted the suspects on charges of capital murder, kidnapping, and aggravated sexual assault.

Jocelyn Lisel Nungaray was born on December 27, 2011, as the older of two children. She was in sixth grade at Gordon-Reed Elementary School until March 2024, when she moved away to North Houston with her single mother and younger brother.

The story continues from there. Good God, what a shameand on Bloomsday, no less! As Greta Conroy tells her husband in Joyce's famous story, The Dead:

“I can see him so plainly,” she said after a moment. “Such eyes as he had: big, dark eyes! And such an expression in them—an expression!”

[...]

“He died when he was only seventeen. Isn’t it a terrible thing to die so young as that?”

Except this is much worse than that.

Bakari Sellers, a good decent person, interrupted with a standard bit of misdirection. It was a standard misdirection scripted by of our own Blue American tribe.

Did he realize that it was a misdirection? We don't know. Do you?

Sunshine had it right that night. Sometimes, our side is the one at fault.

  2. And there it is. That murder was Blue America’s fault, and Somerby recounts the lurid details, just to amp up the shame.

Bob has come a long way since 1998.

  3. Pretty ugly and xenophobic post coming from the supposed "liberal" that preaches pity for the corrupt and the criminal. saying they deserve politeness and kindness.

It is the prevalence of this kind of fake liberal that causes Dems to lose elections and the Dems are not having it anymore and right wingers like Somerby are losing their minds.

    2. Assuming that immigrants will commit unspecified future crimes suggests they should not only be deported but also preemptively jailed and punished preventatively. Hard to see why this shouldn’t be done for babies born in the US too. We can’t know who will be a killer as adults, so we must treat all of them as pre-guilty. If all citizens are jailed at birth, murder can be eliminated entirely. That seems totally worth it.

    3. Referring to other people’s arguments as “misdirection” is name-calling and a diversion that evades addressing their points. I want to know why those Christian heterosexuals are not deported to Africa, given that they too commit murders.

    12. The trend doesn't seem to be toward electing centrists with corporate ties. It seems to be toward supporting progressives and anyone willing to fight Trump and the Republicans, showing signs of life in Congress not trying to "negotiate" with Trump. Given his lack of support by black voters and his lack of progressive ideas, I don't think he has any chance of being nominated.

To his credit, he supported Biden while he was serving as ambassador to Japan, but he is now trying to have it all ways at once by proposed a 75 yo age limit. There is no magic age at which someone becomes too old -- for some people it is age 60. Some are never capable. Our laws protecting workers have barred age discrimination, and the same reasoning applies to older politicians as applies to those who work in other kinds of jobs. Performance should be what matters.

So, it seems craven for him to change directions like that.

“Donald Trump negotiated a withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan during his first term by signing the United States–Taliban deal in February 2020.”

“Preliminary military findings indicate that the strike was an American targeting error caused by using outdated intelligence. The school building had been separated from the active military base years prior”

Not to mention that there is no evidence that anon at 3:42 didn’t care about those girls in Afghanistan. That’s pure mind reading and typical right wing filth. But the right winger expresses zero concern about those girls in Iran.

    10. i’m not aware of any travesties occurring at libraries. Drag queens aren’t pedophiles. Epstein was, and his victims have still not gotten justice. Trump was his close friend and enabler, if not a pedophile himself. If you were to read Trump‘s social media posts to those children in those libraries, that would be a travesty. 17. The Taliban is not allowing Christian girls to attend school in Afrghanistan either. If you're going to argue, at least make sense. No matter who implemented the withdrawal, the Taliban was still going to be left in charge.

If I were a schoolgirl, I would rather be left alive but not permitted to attend school, than to be killed for no good reason except incompetence as occurred in Iran.

    18. It is not a good look for Somerby to be emphasizing tragedies happening to 12 year old girls while not caring about the Epstein victims. Some of Epstein's clients and some of his victims were European or from other countries, but enough were American too.

Why has Somerby never expressed concern about Barron's relationship with the Tates? How can he worry about Gutfeld so very much, while not caring about the impact of the manosphere on American young men? Immigrants are really not our most concerning social threat.

    A bit later, sunshine says:

“SUNSHINE: Well, what's important is that they're doing it because everybody in our country unlawfully has committed a crime by being here. It's quite literally eight U.S. Code. You know, they're enforcing the laws that are on the books.”

    2. Agree.

It is not a crime to be an undocumented immigrant, it is a civil violation.

Improper entry into the US is a misdemeanor, essentially a speeding ticket.

The upper most estimate of immigrants that came here via improper entry is about 14%, but the actual number is much less because many of those people apply for asylum.

Bob is harping on a non issue and in a really repugnant manner.

At this point, not only is it clear Bob is right wing, but he is hardcore right wing.

  10. "MONDAY: The way our Blue world can look to the Reds!"

When the Reds do not see any of our shared reality clearly, why would they have a clear view of our Blue world? They don't have a clear view of their own Red world either. It is the nature of the way the Red World processes information that they are not living in proximity to reality. That is dangerous. It is also part of the definition of sanity and mental health.

We get it that there is a gap between the Blue World and the way the Reds see us, but that doesn't mean we have to accept, much less cater to their view of us, or anything else (Trump for example).

Somerby is not in good touch with reality either. That is clear from his beliefs that reality cannot be known and that there is no certainty about anything in the world. For quite a while now, he has just been repeating Republican lies told on Fox and by folks like Gutfeld. He seems to have made a conscious decision not to investigate beyond cable news. That leaves him with very little say about current events.

Old folks do tend to withdraw into a bubble, but that presages death and is not how you keep cognitive functions working. The best thing for old folks to do is learn new things every day, the more complex the better. Letting Fox tell you what to believe is a downhill slide. But that is Somerby's choice.

All those other reds can go fuck themselves. No one cares what they think of blue America. Their shared delusions are not real just because others believe them too.

    ReplyDelete
