Helping Josh speak to the world: Even in his disappointment this week, Josh Marshall has continued to issue sharp economic analyses.
In this analysis, his latest, he thoughtfully "tries to answer a recurring question from a number of existing Prime members." We post the start of his attempt:
MARSHALL (11/11/16): We've had a recurring question from a number of existing Prime members over the last few days. Let me try to answer it.Too funny. According to Marshall, he's received a slew of emails asking if people can give him more money.
We've had a slew of emails asking whether you can contribute more to support TPM in addition to your subscription fee. We were already getting these emails before the election. We've gotten a lot more after the election. In so many words, yes, we do [sic].
[Before proceeding, I want to make one thing crystal clear. If you are an existing Prime member you should have absolutely no guilt, sense of obligation or anything else. You are 100% solid with us. This is purely for people who want to do more. Really serious about that.]
If you haven't inquired about that possibility, you shouldn't feel guilty, he says. He's really serious about that!
Marshall proceeds from there. As you can see, he's just trying to answer a question he recurrently gets from people who wonder if they can contribute more.
"Yes, you can," he seems to say, while strangely typing "In so many words, yes, we do." (In the address for this latest post, the phrase is "yes-you-can.")
Minds get eroded in various ways by the pursuit of money. Marshall started out as a writer on the bright end of liberal journalism. All these years later, he increasingly sounds like a parody of a fast-talking businessman hustler.
If the site was sharp, you'd accept that loss. In our view, the site traffics rather heavily in the world of Us and Them.
Unlike Marshall's original work, it doesn't seem real sharp at all. It's the place you go to get caught up on the latest tribal pap.
This is where the brain cells go: Steel yourselves. After that, read this.
We've seen more horrific accounts. That came up first when we searched.
