The compliance of the lambs: Last night, Rachel Maddow dropped the clowning and weird grinning long enough to roll her eyes at the FBI—and of course at Fox.
Why did some FBI agents want to execute the Clintons for their vile deeds at the Clinton Foundation? It's being reported that they took their evidence from Peter Schweizer's widely-derided Breitbart-funded partisan tome, Clinton Cash.
Rachel ran though some basic info, then offered this:
MADDOW (11/4/16): This week, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal reported there's been I guess you'd call it like a breakout. There's been a breakout from this otherwise insular little Breitbart.com corner of conservative media and political activism. We were left with a question.
Those two papers reported that apparently there are Breitbart.com fans, there are Breitbart.com true believers, there are people who buy this stuff, who are working inside the New York field office of the FBI.
The New York Times and Wall Street Journal, first to report that the New York field office of the FBI used that anti-Hillary Clinton book and DVD of the same name from the Breitbart.com guys and editor and his boss who's now the head of the Donald Trump campaign, the one funded by Donald Trump's biggest donor, right? They actually used that Breitbart.com anti-Hillary Clinton book as their source for launching a local FBI inquiry into Hillary Clinton. That was their evidence. That was their research.
These agents in the New York field office reportedly decided that they needed to look into what Breitbart.com was saying about Hillary Clinton. All sounds terrible! Sounds totally legit! We should look into that. We're the FBI!
It had previously been reported that New York FBI agents had brought this anti-Hillary Clinton stuff to a meeting with career Justice Department prosecutors back in February and one of the participants in that meeting described it as, quote, "one of the weirdest meetings I have ever been to."
But all we knew before now was that they had brought some stuff of Hillary Clinton and Clinton Foundation to that meeting. We now know, based on this current reporting, what the New York agents brought prosecutors at meeting wasn`t just generic anti-Hillary Clinton stuff or Hillary Clinton stuff they had cooked up on their own. No, it was this stuff that had been cooked up at Breitbart.
Thanks to Lord knows whatever's going on apparently inside that New York field office of the FBI, that little adventure which is now reportedly over, that little adventure of the Breitbart.com readers inside this one FBI field office, that's what's out now in today's news five days before the election. That's what was breathlessly reported on Fox News last night, "based on FBI sources."
Depending on what actually happened, it does sound crazy to think that the FBI may have been working from Schweizer's book. Maddow mocked the FBI, and she went on to mock Fox.
She didn't mock the New York Times, which built the worst news report of the whole campaign from work in Schweizer's book. We refer to the Times' 4400-word gong-show report about the scary uranium deal.
We couldn't help wondering! That giant report appeared in the New York Times in April 2015. Chris Hayes hailed it as a "bombshell report." But what did Maddow say?
Today, we went back and looked. You may not be surprised to hear that Maddow doesn't seem to have said a single word about that gong-show report. Truthfully, she mugs and clowns and entertains and plays it amazingly safe.
As best we can tell, Maddow never mentioned that gong-show report by the Times. Kornacki guest-hosted for her on the day it first appeared on-line and, on just a few hours notice, he treated the piece with great deference and respect. (There go those Clintons again!)
Because the piece was so long and so incoherent, no one should have tried to review it on a few hours' notice. Maddow never went back to critique it again. Future of the world be danged! It simply isn't done!
It's interesting to catalog the topics on which Maddow has gone AWOL. After Comey's weird behavior in July, she never so much as mentioned his name until he struck again. When the GOP attacked Susan Rice and invented Benghazi, she ran and hid in the woods along with the rest of the fiery MSNBC gang.
When Trump announced in June 2015, it took her weeks to speak up about his ugly announcement speech. In real time, she mugged and clowned and carried on instead. Finally, commentary seemed safe.
Meanwhile, she'll never report the history of the Clinton wars which may yet send Candidate Trump to the White House. Truly, Maddow's one of the biggest frauds in corporate cable news history.
That said, she's very good at selling cars. Unfortunately, the car she sells is herself.
In Maddowvania, Fox was wrong to credit that Breitbart.com anti-Hillary Clinton book; the New York Times, not so much! But dearest darlings, please use your heads! It simply isn't done!
Someone else may know what you need. The weirdly grinning Rachel Maddow seems to know what you want.
Also this: Rightly or wrongly, Bridget Kelly was found guilty today in the Bridgegate matter. Why knows? Tonight, Rachel may even let her viewers know that Kelly was on trial!
Personally, we aren't big fans of punishment culture. It seems to turn Rachel on.
