Donald J. Trump enjoys Mother's Day!

MONDAY, MAY 15, 2023

Also, Bandy X. Lee's latest essay: We lost a lot of time today. That said, we thought you deserved to see Donald J. Trump's Mother's Day message, as delivered on Truth Social.

Mother's Day has always been special to Trump. Yesterday, this is the message he posted:

Happy Mother’s Day to ALL, in particular the Mothers, Wives and Lovers of the Radical Left Fascists, Marxists, and Communists who are doing everything within their power to destroy and obliterate our once great Country. Please make these complete Lunatics and Maniacs Kinder, Gentler, Softer and, most importantly, Smarter, so that we can, quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!

There's nothing new about this sort of thing. Last December, on Christmas Eve, he offered this holiday message:

Merry Christmas to EVERYONE, including the Radical Left Marxists that are trying to destroy our Country, the Federal Bureau of Investigation that is illegally coercing & paying Social and LameStream Media to push for a mentally disabled Democrat over the Brilliant, Clairvoyant, and USA LOVING Donald J. Trump, and, of course, The Department of Injustice, which appointed a Special “Prosecutor” who, together with his wife and family, HATES “Trump” more than any other person on earth. LOVE TO ALL!

Joe DePaolo did the background work at Mediaite. To peruse his report, click here.

We've long said that you can't conduct a serious discussion of Donald J. Trump unless you enlist the help of (carefully selected) medical specialists.

We don't say that to be insulting. We simply think it's fairly clear that something is seriously wrong with this tormented, disordered person.

We hope to wade back into this topic during this week or next. For today, we'll leave you with the link to Bandy X. Lee's new essay on Medium.

For better or worse, the mainstream press has long refused to acknowledge Lee's existence or the work she has done. She has said that something is badly wrong with Trump, and that it will only get worse.

You can read her latest essay, but the mainstream refuses to go there. For better or worse, the major orgs of the mainstream press have clung to a very old rule.

  1. Trump’s own sister has long been a staple of these shows, explaining Trump’s obvious mental problems. Again, that is the way Bob attempts to blame Trump on the left, they don’t properly understand that he is nuts. But what of Trump voters, and the high profile right personalities that signed off on his lies about the election and January 6th? Are the all mental defectives who demand sensitivity? Bob’s way of avoiding that question is to not bring them up.

  2. The new Durham report has been widely covered. See, e.g., After 4-year probe, Durham report slams FBI for actions in 2016 Russia investigation

It shows that the huge Trump Russia investigation was never justified! Trump's excitement about this investigation is justified.

    1. 8:22 your characterization of the Durham report is misleading and false.

Here is the report’s main conclusion:

“This report does not recommend any wholesale changes”

The report is a giant nothingburger; it complains about how the FBI got wiretap approval for Carter Page - which is a nonsense complaint, it complains about how the FBI used the Steele dossier - this complaint is inaccurate and irrelevant, and it complains about that some in the FBI weren’t Trump loyalists - boohoo.

Durham investigated longer and more thoroughly than Mueller, but unlike Mueller who had tons of indictment and convictions, Durham could only charge 3 people.

One charged was a scapegoat for the Carter Page wiretap (Page was not part of Trump’s campaign during this time), he didn’t do anything wrong but someone had to take the fall, so he plead guilty.

The other 2 Durham charged were acquitted!

A news reports on the Durham report quotes an expert:

…a national-security lawyer, Brad Moss, noted there were no additional charges and no changes to agency rules.

"What a massive and utter flop for Trump’s fantasies," Moss said. "It was a 'be more careful next time' report."

I don't believe it showed that at all. That may be what it was hoping to show, but what justifies drawing that conclusion?

    4. Dave shows how a tribal Republican now operates. Break off just as big a piece of bullshit as is possible and start passing it around. But, even with the Republican committee advantage it is GREAT that Durham will have to answer questions from Dems. Barr should be called too…

    5. 9:09 everyone should vote. Dems outnumber Repubs, so if everyone voted, eventually Dems would attain a majority role in government.

  4. Somerby links to an article by Dr Bandy Lee that goes over some general psychology concepts, doesn’t mention Trump. A reasonable takeaway from her article is that wide spread unresolved childhood trauma is causing various pernicious pathologies.

Dr Bandy Lee has appeared on many media platforms, most of them mainstream; let’s get real: Somerby thinks cable news is mainstream, but this is not supported by any evidence. Fox does seem to represent mainstream for right wingers, but CNN and MSNBC, the NY Times and the Washington Post, and similar outlets represent neoliberals, they do not represent mainstream non right wingers, who are broadly progressive.

Somerby is quiet on Dr Bandy Lee’s most recent interview, on the progressive-lite Meidas Touch network, where she explained that Republicans - she’s referring to all Trump supporters, around 42% of the country - is suffering from something she calls Trump Contagion, a pathology that makes them stuck in survivor mode such that reasonable persuasion has no effect, and that they are leading our country down a death spiral.

  6. "We simply think it's fairly clear that something is seriously wrong with this tormented, disordered person." -- Bob Somerby

You endlessly repeat the same few vague descriptors. If it's so clear, please explain in clear and specific terms what you think is seriously wrong with Trump. Explain what you mean by disordered. What are the specific disorders you have observed?

And most of all, explain why you think that 74,223,975 Americans voted to put such a person in the nation's highest office.

  7. We do not need to understand Trump's pathologies to discuss what he said in those two statements and apply that to various questions, such as "Is this man fit to be president?"

I wonder what Melania thought of his Mother's Day statement? A man who does not understand that failure to honor his own wife on such a day is a huge breach of humanity and relationship dynamics in families, is not fit to be president. We all saw that back when he dishonored the Gold Star families in his first campaign. And if Trump is not fit, he is also not our problem to fix. We only need to vote for someone better.

Somerby is trying to make this more complex than it needs to be. We do not need to diagnose Trump, or in the words of Bob Dylan, slightly modified: we don't need to analyze or categorize Trump, simplify or classify him, deny, defy or crucify him, Or select him or dissect him, or inspect him or reject him...all we really want to do is decide whether he should be president -- and the answer to that is clearly NO!! Because a man who cannot wish the mother his child a happy mother's day, is not going to be a good president.

And once that decision is made, there is no reason to continue talking about Trump.

    2. Is she a Republican voter? If so, I don't think she cares about Mother's Day. I think she only cares about bigotry and white supremacy, just like every other Republican voter.

  8. I'm not interested in playing this game any more. Somerby won't admit that Trump committed sexual abuse and defamed E. Jean Carroll, but he is willing to call him psychologically disordered? Is that court verdict too concrete for Somerby? Will he only discuss Trump in vague non-behavioral identity terms (yes, mental illness is a component of identity, as are personality disorders). Will Somerby participate only in psychiatric speculation and not in Trump's accomplishments (or lack of them), stumbles and fumbles, his mistakes and crimes?

Why is Somerby, who usually prefers the concrete, suddenly arguing that only intangibles matter when it comes to Trump? That's no way to pick a president, and if we aren't interested in supporting Trump in 2024, then why talk about any of this? It just doesn't matter what is wrong with Trump. That's truly his problem.

  9. In order to defeat Trump, the blue tribe has to motivate its voters, who happen to outnumber the red tribe.

Somerby has never (at least since his shift to the right wing) attempted to motivate blue tribe voters, indeed his efforts seem to be towards suppressing their votes.

As Trump as that Mother's Day message is it doesn't hit me as being nearly as unhinged as the Democrat agenda does now. As the kids say, "I can't" anymore.
