But first, the world's poorest children: Susie Wiles said many things in her eleven (11) interviews with Chris Whipple for Vanity Fair.
Given the number of deaths involved, her most significant rumination may involve the apparent "sociopath"—no, it's not a clinical term—known as Elon Musk. Here's the start of Whipple's text concerning this disaster:
The White House Chief of Staff on Trump’s Second Term (Part 1 of 2)
[...]
From day one, Wiles had to grapple with another power center: Elon Musk.
“He is a complete solo actor,” said Wiles of Trump’s billionaire pal who led the scorched-earth blitz known as the Department of Government Efficiency. Wiles described Musk as something akin to a jacked-up Nosferatu. “The challenge with Elon is keeping up with him,” she told me. “He’s an avowed ketamine [user]. And he sleeps in a sleeping bag in the EOB in the daytime. And he’s an odd, odd duck, as I think geniuses are. You know, it’s not helpful, but he is his own person.”
Musk triggered the first true crisis of the Trump presidency and an early test for Wiles. Trump’s chief was shocked when the SpaceX founder eviscerated USAID, the United States Agency for International Development. “I was initially aghast,” Wiles told me. “Because I think anybody that pays attention to government and has ever paid attention to USAID believed, as I did, that they do very good work.”
In his executive order freezing foreign aid, Trump had decreed that lifesaving programs should be spared. Instead, they were shuttered. “When Elon said, ‘We’re doing this,’ he was already into it,” said Wiles. “And that’s probably because he knew it would be horrifying to others. But he decided that it was a better approach to shut it down, fire everybody, shut them out, and then go rebuild. Not the way I would do it.”
The passage about Musk's destruction of USAID continues at some length. Along the way, Whipple recalls what Bill Gates said about Musk's conduct:
In an interview with The Financial Times, Bill Gates remarked: “The picture of the world’s richest man killing the world’s poorest children is not a pretty one.”
With that, we return to Wiles. As it turns out, shuttering USAID's lifesaving programs isn't the way Wiles says she would have done it! Also this, according to Wiles:
"I think anybody that pays attention to government and has ever paid attention to USAID believed, as I did, that they do very good work.”
Anyone who'd paid attention thought USAID did good work?
It may be that Wiles believes that. But we'll guess that there are plenty of people within her orbit inside the White House who did know about the lives which were at stake, but thought the minimal expense involved in those lifesaving programs made the whole thing a perfect example of wasteful government work.
We were also struck by Wiles' remarks concerning Bill Clinton. Here's the account by NBC News of what Wiles said:
Top takeaways from White House chief of staff Susie Wiles' interviews with Vanity Fair
[...]
Wiles said she has read what she calls "the Epstein file" and said while Trump is in it, he's "not doing anything awful." She said Trump and the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were "young, single playboys together."
Wiles disputed Trump’s statements about former President Bill Clinton and Epstein, saying, "There is no evidence” that Clinton visited one of Epstein’s islands as many as 28 times, as Trump has claimed. She also said Trump's claim that there is anything incriminating about Clinton in the files was inaccurate.
"The president was wrong about that,” Wiles said.
"The president was wrong about that?" More on this topic tomorrow—but thanks for telling us now!
Wiles says Trump and Epstein were single bachelors together. That isn't true. Trump was married to Maples and then to Melania during the time he hung around with Epstein. Note that they had a competition going to sleep with other men's wives. That is adultery for Trump. That much is confirmed by already released documents.
ReplyDeleteThere are various dates when Trump was supposed to have ended his relationship with Epstein, but there is also evidence via texts between Epstein and Trump during times after they were supposed to have broken off their friendship. For example, Trump supposedly quit hanging around with Epstein in 2004-2005, yet Epstein had Thanksgiving dinner at the White House the first year of Trump's first term (2016). Trump says he made Epstein quit his Mar a Lago membership, but Epstein says that he was never a member but was also present in photos right up to his last arrest on sex trafficking charges. Given that Trump tells lies about everything, I am inclined to believe Epstein about such things.
DeleteNote that Steve Bannon, who was a member of Trump's first cabinet, was an ongoing consultant and friend to Epstein while he was fighting legal charges and trying to rehabilitate his reputation. That doesn't sound like Trump was estranged from Epstein, as claimed.
anon 3:02, I would note that Trump and Epstein had a "competition going to sleep with other men's wives" if you could provide valid evidence that such a competition in fact existed. I've never heard this before.
ReplyDeleteMichael Wolff has published this story, or one similar to it. I don't have much trust in his work.
DeleteNot even when it is corroborated? There are 17 years of conversations with Howard Stern about Trump boasting about sleeping with other men's wives. But you think Wolff is lying? The pussy tape with Bill Bush is corroboration from Trump's own lips. Are you going to also deny his infidelities with Karen MacDougal and Stormy Daniels while married to Melania (who had just given birth to Barron)?
DeletePro-tip:
DeleteIf you use the word "obviously", it means it's true, even if there is not one iota of proof.
Like when AC/ MA writes that obviously not all Republican voters are bigots.
"Are you going to also deny..."
DeleteYou're done. Show me where I denied anything.
ReplyDeleteSo, the Wiles woman published a scandalous book and made money. Fine.
So, you unfortunate TDS-sufferers will be regurgitating it for weeks now? Of course you will. Yawn.
"the Wiles woman published a scandalous book"
DeleteNo, Mr. Current Events, she didn't publish a book. She was interviewed by a magazine.
DeleteDoesn't matter. So, she will publish a book.
One can't let so much bullshit gossip and shit go to waste.
I don’t think you understand how boneheaded idiotic it was of Pres Trump to let Susie Wiles do 11 interviews with Vanity Fair. Vanity Freaking Fair…whose staff had a nervous breakdown at the suggestion of putting the First Lady on the cover. of their magazine. The shallow dumbest bougiest sons-of-bitches on the planet who sound like Leninists while waving around handbags that cost 5K. Did Trump think it was 2005 when VF was inviting him to their parties? It’s just inexplicable. If Trump is having an affair with any person on the planet (besides his own ego) it’s got to be Susie Wiles.
DeleteThey told her to go do the interviews so that she could put the word out that she has read the Epstein File and Trump and Bill Clinton are innocent of wrongdoing. Everything else is window-dressing on that. Don't forget that tomorrow is the deadline to release the files.
DeleteTrump is not having an affair with Wiles. She is not his type (not blonde, not shapely, not young, not dressed like a hoochie-mama, not enhanced by cosmetic surgery, not super-flattering and subservient, and she looks nothing like Ivanka. Your suggestion shows no understanding of Trump's taste in women. If anything, Wiles might remind him of his mother.
Anonymouse 4:58pm, you post shows no understanding of sarcasm. That an indication that you are the typical boneheaded, and brittle liberal chick.
DeleteSarcasm in speech is signaled by tone of voice. In written form, it must be signaled using words. You don't do that, and you are anonymous to all here, so how is anyone to know what you intend? That is a problem with Somerby's writing too.
DeleteAnonymouse 5:20pm, oh, I don’t know… maybe the fact that he has extremely wealthy and has pursued extremely attractive women and married some of them? Whoever it is who hires you people is a complete idiot.
DeleteWiles is not attractive.
DeleteAnonymouse 5:57pm, that’s why I suggested that Wiles is no Melania. OF COURSE Trump is not actually sleeping with Susie Wiles. However..the fact that Trump let his guard down and allowed this woman to do ELEVEN interviews with people who hate his guts just begs for the * facetious * pronouncement that he must be sleeping with Wiles. In reality, Trump put himself into VF’s hands because he somehow thought they were coming back to his golden Trump Tower escalator, just like the old days…. Is that too abstract for you?
DeleteIt was strategic. Why would a decent person malign Wiles in the name of half-assed sarcasm as you claim you did? Wiles is taking one for the team.
DeleteAnonymouse 9:54am pm, what are you talking about? My criticism was focused on Trump.
DeleteIn which King Orange J Chickenshit asks the question, "why can't we be more like North Korea?"
ReplyDeleteBoard of Kennedy Center votes to change its name to Trump-Kennedy Center, White House says
File this under, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME
Triggered, Hillary?

DeleteIf you gave a damn about the arts, you would be dismayed by this too, @3:39.
Anonymouse 3:35pm, my first response to your post was to ask myself if you are really that stupid. Evidently, this news is true, just like you being stupid is true.
DeleteNo, the stupidity belongs to Trump. He has single-handedly decreased subscriptions and ticket sales while eliminating an important performance venue. No one can go there now and survive the shame.
DeleteCecelia, living in Eastern Europe, you don't understand that the arts must now survive on donations because Republicans won't support anything that might be intellectual challenging to them. Trump has made it so that no self-respecting patron can have anything to do with American culture until Trump is gone and they can change the name back. It is more cruelty for the sake of hurting people, and it makes us more of a laughing stock in the world, where Kid Rock would not be considered a musician. Calling others here "stupid" for telling the truth makes you appear to be the moron in the room, but that is no surprise to anyone here.
Anonymouse 5:03pm, thru all your hourly sturm and drang, you don’t understand that I’m just as surprised as you? Thanks for turning my surprise into laughter and schadenfreude.
DeleteThis is illegal:
Delete"20 U.S. Code § 76i - John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
U.S. Code
(a)In general
The Board shall construct for the Smithsonian Institution, with funds raised by voluntary contributions, a building to be designated as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on a site in the District of Columbia..."
Trump does not have the authority to rename this.
It's like the idiot christians erecting their demonic 160 foot tall crosses. Putzes and weirdos. Not christian .
DeleteJasmine Crockett or AOC can change the name back when they become president in 3 years.
DeleteWhy pretend it is legal in the first place. People need to stand up to Trump now.
DeleteCC honey, sorry dear, you've lost your punch
DeleteTrump said he wants to change the name of the Kennedy Center. Which leads to the question, "Why the fuck would anyone listen to a word Trump says?"
DeleteCecelia, first you call me stupid for believing the news that your King has renamed the Kennedy Center, and then when you understand that the story is true you still call me stupid. nasty bitch
DeleteAnonymouse 7:19am, no, what I said was that I initially didn’t believe you because you’re an anonymouse and apt to believe clickbait nonsense. Then I learned that you are correct in the info about the Kennedy Center, but surmised that being right as to a headline doesn’t mean you’re not stupid. That’s very sound reasoning and judgement.
Delete"David Rothkopf, columnist for The Daily Beast, said that Trump's primetime speech Wednesday night was troubling and had the "demented energy of one of Hitler’s Nuremberg rallies." And despite that, his "Adderall-infused rant" was "mercifully short," but it didn't remove the chaos of his current term.
ReplyDelete"President Donald Trump had a manic episode on national television Wednesday night during which he projectile vomited lies at a national audience," Rothkopf wrote. "As the spectacle progressed, his volume grew louder, his speed grew faster, and his falsehoods grew more egregious. In fact, it may have set new world records for lunatic, mendacious vapidity."
If Trump weren't commander-in-chief or even a family member, there would be a different approach, the writer explained.
"If you’d otherwise heard an aging relative howling at the moon as Trump did, you would gently remove any sharp implements from their immediate vicinity and start to talk to them about the nice men who would soon be arriving with the butterfly nets," Rothkopf wrote.
"Breaks with reality like we saw Wednesday night usually end with Thorazine drips and soothing elevator music, after all. Admittedly, Trump’s cell will ultimately have to be padded with golden cushioning, and perhaps constructed as an oval to help persuade him he is still president," he added. "Still, just as we should with a senescent great uncle, the American people need to get this guy some help—to keep a close eye on him, and keep him away from nuclear launch codes for, like, ever."
Yes, Susie stood by and clutched her pearls, as sociopaths were running amok. I am sure that there will be a footnote about her in the books written about the demise of the United States.
ReplyDeleteThank god for her steady hand, this is could have gotten really fucking bad, not just fucking bad without her.
DeleteShe is not a good guy just because she admitted a few truths. We don’t know that she stabilized anything.
DeleteShe stabilized the destruction. In other words, she was not the voice of sanity to mitigate the insane ramblings of this administration; she was there to insure that the insanity could continue apace.
Delete"The New York Times issued a statement explaining why one of the newspaper's columnists appeared in several newly released photos from Jeffrey Epstein's estate.
ReplyDeleteThe statement on David Brooks came minutes after House Democrats released a new batch of photos obtained from the late sex offender's estate showed the Times columnist at an event.
"As a journalist, David Brooks regularly attends events to speak with noted and important business leaders to inform his columns, which is exactly what happened at this 2011 event," the Times said in a statement to Semafor's Max Tani. "Mr. Brooks had no contact with him before or after this single attendance at a widely-attended dinner."
Epstein used to hold dinners and trips for famous scientists, professors and celebrities (such as Brooks) in order to provide cover for his sex trafficking activities. Legitimizing the travel and parties as a pursuit of knowledge and intellectual linquiry was Epstein's way of giving prominent men an excuse to be there, while other activities were taking place.
It is possible that Brooks had no knowledge of Epstein's real business, but it is also possible that he was as involved as others who were guilty of participating in sex with underage girls and women against their will. This ambiguity about guilt of the men who were Epstein's clients is the main reason why the Epstein files need to be released and investigation, to sort out who was guilty and who innocent. Meanwhile, all of the men who were involved will be claiming innocence, from Epstein right on up to Trump himself and all the weasels in between.
Why can't this all be swept under a rug and forgotten, now that Epstein is dead? For one reason, there are victims who deserve justice. Men don't seem to consider what happens to women to be important, but there were women whose lives were ruined by Maxwell and Epstein. Giuffre committed suicide because she could no longer cope with the aftermath. This matters to other women. Look at Marjorie Taylor Greene's break with Trump over the release of the Epstein Files. Other women will not vote Republican if there is doubt remaining over what happened and who did what, still tarnishing Republican men more than Democrats. Epstein and Trump started out Democrats but switched to Republican at the height of their sexual misbehavior. The Republicans own this.
And there are still some of us who believe that men who engage in crimes should be investigated and convicted, their misdeed made public and they should receive punishment for what they have done to girls and women. This is needed to deter similar behavior in other men who think they are too powerful to get caught. The law matters and there must be justice. Even for Republicans. Trump clearly considers himself to be above the law -- which is exactly why he must be prosecuted for what he did along with Epstein. Women are half the population of our country, more than half of voters, and we are not playthings for rich men to abuse and discard because they have money. That is just evil. We must demonstrate that our country still knows right from wrong and does not tolerate evil.
Ya'll convinced me to listen to Trump's speech. Woe is me! Shorter version of the speech: our country is so hot, everyone wants to fuck us.
ReplyDelete“He’s a very effective salesman when his heart is in it or when he’s on the attack. But the ‘I feel your pain’ speech — he just doesn’t have that club in his bag.”
DeleteHe is currently pitching he ain't about to drop dead, the adderal keeps me going man!
DeleteNYtimes:
ReplyDeleteOur in-depth examination found no evidence implicating Mr. Trump in Mr. Epstein’s abuse and trafficking of minors.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/us/jeffrey-epstein-donald-trump.html
Another one bites the dust.
That isn’t what the link says.
DeleteYes, it says that word for word.
Delete"An examination of their history by The New York Times has found no evidence implicating Mr. Trump in Mr. Epstein’s abuse and trafficking of minors."
DeletePerhaps you missed it.
Perhaps you missed the rest of the article?
Delete9:50 they did an investigation into the relationship between Trump and Epstein and they found no evidence whatsoever, not even a tiny shred, implicating Trump in Mr. Epstein's abuse and trafficking of minors.
DeleteJust read down a little further and you will see it.
Not "only some evidence" or "just a little bit of evidence" but "no evidence" whatsoever. The investigation didn't find anything at all linking Trump to Epstein's crimes. Did you see that in the article upon the second reading?
I recall that there was speculation that Trump had participated with Epstein in his sex crimes. But now the New York Times has put that theory to bed. It's 110% false. There's no evidence at all that Trump was connected to Epstein's trafficking. It may be that the people that found themselves believing that can now perform ing self-examination as to why they would let themselves go that far when in the end not only was it not true, there's not even any evidence of it at all.
DeleteGroovy news man.
DeleteThe best part of that NY times article is this quote:
Delete"After a lengthy investigation, the NY Times has learned there is no connection between Republican voters and those who aren't bigots."
"It's 110% false."
DeleteC'mon man. It's gotta be 600% false.
It's gratifying that we can now all finally be on the same page: there isn't a single shred of any kind of evidence whatsoever that Trump was involved with Epstein trafficking girls.
DeleteSome of us were convinced that Trump was involved. But now we know that they were 110% completely and totally wrong.
Blind partisanship is a hell of a drug.
DeleteI believe in rationality. But many of us are religious and think we can just say things are true because we believe them, even when there's no evidence. There has never been a more zealous religious cult online Democrats. For years it was Russian collusion. Now this. It's interesting to see religious dogma play out in the real world against rationality.
Delete
DeleteMeh. It's not a religious dogma. Religious dogma is not a fake conspiracy theory. Religious dogma is bigger, much bigger: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. You see?
What we have here is just a bunch of bots parroting idiotic DNC talking points.
"110% completely and totally wrong."
DeleteC'mon man. It's at least 600% completely and totally wrong.
