We're holding off for a day. Starting Saturday morning, we had an undesirable response to a prescribed pharmaceutical. As we regain full functioning, we'll wait for a brighter day.

ReplyDelete1. Obeying international law against a regime that flaunts international law. Suppose an evil regime murders thousands of its own people as well as thousands of foreigners. Takes over international waters, attacks foreign ships at will. Threatens death to you and your countrymen. Suppose that in order to defeat this regime, some small violations of international law would be necessary. Should honorable countries strictly obey international law, thus allowing this evil regime to persist?
2. Tolerance of intolerance. Suppose a culture believes in treating women like property, killing all Jews and gays. Should immigrants from this culture be tolerantly welcomed in, thus destroying the tolerant culture of the host country?

DeleteYour mistake here is to suppose that the 'small' violations of international law you envision, would bring about the end of the evil regime.
But of course they won't necessarily be 'small', and there's certainly no prospect of them bringing out the end of the regime.
They would instead just be the lashing out of an angry man-baby who has tired of his invasion and wants to move on to something else, but can't.
Flouts international law, not flaunts it. English is hard for foreign trolls.

As you know I'm not a Christian, but I think it's offensive to equate Christianity with a religion that throws gay people off rooftops and treats women like possessions rather than equal human beings.
As a Christian, I find it offensive that Christianity has been hijacked by its worst manifestations, Hegseth’s pastor for example, who believes women shouldn’t vote and homosexuality should be criminalized. What right wing Christian believes or acts on any of this:

Yes, preventive wars are always questionable. Are they necessary? Are they worth the cost? Can they be won?
DeleteAthens started a preventive war against Sparta. Athens lost and the war led to its demise. OTOH the Allies failed to start a preventive war against Hitler. It took 80 million lives and almost led to the end of freedom on the entire planet.
What's my judgment regarding Trump's war against Iran? I think a nuclear armed Iran would have been a big problem, even without leading to a nuclear war. Iran could have used the threat of their nukes is many different ways. There's a small chance the Iraqi nuclear weapons might have fallen into the hands of terrorists who used them.
I am not sure Trump's efforts will lead Iran to stop seeking nuclear weapons. I am somewhat optimistic, but quite uncertain.
The cost to the US in $ of this war is big.
I can understand why people think the war was not a good idea. However, there seem to actually be some Americans who are rooting for Iran to win! I suspect most of these are people are dupes, rather than homophobic, misogynistic, antisemites.
