THURSDAY: We're enormously sorry we brought it up!

Our failed state and its douchebags: Yesterday afternoon, on The Five, it was Joe and Mika who were denounced as "douchebags."

"I never want to hear another moral lecture from those douchebags at Morning Joe," an angry fellow defiantly said

Five hours later, on Gutfeld!,  it was Rep. Jerry Nadler and the Southern Poverty Law Center's Bryan Fair who were denounced in that same colorful way.

"What the hell are these douchebags talking about?" the angry youngster asked.

On Tuesday evening, the same fellow had opened the Gutfeld! show with a joke calling Hillary Clinton a "bitch," instantly followed by a joke comparing Joy Behar to a cow. This is the braindead squalor our astonishing nation has chosen

Back to yesterday's edition of The Five, our most-watched "cable news" show:

We're sorry we said, in this morning's report, that we would discuss yesterday's use of that angry fellow's new favorite word. If you try to discuss this gong-show too often, it's your brain cells, and no one else's, which quickly start to die.

In yesterday's opening segment, the rude, inane overtalking of Tarlov came on thick and fast. It may be time for Tarlov to goto abandon this squalid imitation of life, this burlesque of human behavior, though she'd have to abandon her pay.

In this report, Mediaite captures one amusing part of yesterday's opening segment. Much, much more remains to be said about that segment, but we can't do it today.

Behar is 83. The termagant likes to call her a cow.

Suzanne Scott pays him to do it. What ever happened to Suzanne Sctt to leave her behaving this way?

Watters describes the world of The Five: During that opening segment, Jesse Watters said that he would go after Candidate Platner mainly through policy issues.

"We do a cable show, so we like to sensationalize it," the most-watched person in cable news said. "It's fun to talk about nipples and Nazis and his sex tape, but that's not going to do it."

One of the other youngsters chuckled. According to the world's top experts, this is the downfall we've chosen.

  1. Why does Somerby never mention Lachlan Murdoch?

This is Republican bonding over maligning shared enemies. It is how they feel like they are part of a group of buddies, included, one of the gang.

Yes, it is juvenile, but this hate is the glue that holds the right wing together. Somerby never targets anyone the left cares about, so he is obviously not trying to create any lefty cohesion here at his blog.

  3. "It may be time for Tarlov to go—to abandon this squalid imitation of life, this burlesque of human behavior, though she'd have to abandon her pay."

Why should she have to do that when it is the others who are behaving badly.

By the way, the phrase "imitation of life" refers to a film title about a black woman who passes for white and has an unhappy life. It has nothing to do with literally imitating life but is about not being really part of the society one is participating in. Tarlov is not passing for a conservative and Somerby's "borrowing" of the title of this excellent and moving drama has nothing whatsoever to do with Tarlov or Gutfeld or the right wing.

I would say that Gutfeld et al are not burlesqueing behavior either. They are being what the right is and they daily display why we wouldn't want to be them and why they do not appeal to the left at all. If anything, they are a burlesque of Trump and his incompetent approximation of a presidency. But it would take some thought for Somerby to develop and apply that idea, so he just borrows phrases and slaps them on whatever he wants, almost at random.

  4. Watters says he is not going to take the low road about Platner and Somerby sniggers as if he had actually taken that low road, listing vague descriptors of it. So Watters cannot win, and Platner gets slimed by Somerby anyway.

    1. Watters is going to take the low road about Platner, because Watters takes the low road about everything. It's what his audience demands.

  5. Joy Behar doesn't give a damn what Gutfeld calls her.

Suzanne Scott doesn't give a damn what Somerby thinks of Gutfeld's show.

Why does Somerby care about any of this when there are real issues?

  6. “This is the braindead squalor our astonishing nation has chosen “

It’s the squalor Gutfeld’s audience has chosen.

  7. It was wild to hear David Brooks call Platner a "moral degenerate" when Platner has not done anything degenerate on the level of Brooks, who dumped his wife of 27 years to have an affair with his assistant who is 23 years younger.

    Glass houses, right?

Brooks is also in the Epstein files.

Speaking of Epstein and nipples, we learned from the NY Times (ah now I see why Somerby criticized them the other day) blockbuster article on how the Trump admin held secret meetings in the Situation Room to figure out ways to handle the Epstein files, that one of Trump's kink is that he would flick the nipples of whichever Epstein girl he was having sex with. A witness testified to seeing a girl afterwards in the bathroom with red and bruised breasts/nipples.

Nobody is a bigger douchebag than Trump. What a gross motherfucker.
