Mistaken claim about Trump: The craziness of Candidate Trump is causing circuits to misfire.
Now it's even happened to Conor Friedersdorf. In a brief post at the Atlantic, he quotes Trump's "extravagant praise" for Hillary Clinton, as stated by Trump on Fox in November 2012.
Trump told Fox that Clinton is "terrific." This is Friedersdorf's assessment:
FRIEDERSDORF (5/11/16): Many Trump supporters feel that their candidate is the only one who says what he really thinks and tells it like it is. That cannot be true, for the simple reason that so much of what Trump says now is directly contradicted by what he said in the recent past.Routinely, Friedersdorf is very sharp. For that reason, we're amazed by the highlighted statement.
Today, he says, Hillary is an incompetent failure who was complicit in her husband’s abuse of women. A few years ago, the Clintons were terrific people and Hillary was a hard worker who does a good job. Trump flip-flops exactly like every other opportunistic politician.
No politician in modern history has "flip-flopped" in anything like the way Trump routinely does. We're amazed that Friedersdorf is failing to see what is sitting there right there before him.
Politicians do change their positions on various issues. Trump changes his position on a wide array of issues virtually every time he opens his mouth.
This behavior goes beyond anything that can sensibly be called "flip-flopping." It's much closer to the kind of behavior which suggests serious instability of some clinical kind.
Donald Trump isn't like other pols. Something seems to be keeping people from being able to see this.
