Nothing has changed since the Mueller report!

FRIDAY, APRIL 19, 2019

In our view, the two basic questions:
In our view, nothing has changed in the wake of the Mueller report.

We still have two separate tribes telling two separate stories. Each tribe is talking to itself.

This is the way cable news and the Internet currently work. At this particular point in time, tribal division is big business as well as an ingrained trait.

Speaking from within the tribe which votes for Democrats, we'd say there are only two current questions:

Is Donald J. Trump mentally ill? Also, how can we talk to The Others?

Again and again, liberal reporters and pundits have agreed to avoid that first question. As a result, we're "shocked, shocked" every day concerning this reigning president.

It's Groundhog Day and Casablanca all rolled into one, minus the brilliant comic relief driving that second film.

Regarding that second question:

No, Trump can't sensibly be impeached, or removed from office, as long as so many of The Others see the world from his point of view. Nor is it clear that he can be defeated for re-election unless we learn how to persuade a bunch of The Others to see things in the admittedly brilliant way We so impressively do.

We tend to make zero effort to do this. We simply call The Others names, as members of our war-like species have always tended to do.

Mayor Pete tends to take a different approach to Those People, The Others.

Is Mayor Pete allowed to do that? Is he a deplorable too?

  1. The Mueller Report is a tacit criticism of the Obama Administration. All this Russian meddling was going on during the election of 2016 and the Obama Administration failed to deal properly with it.

    1. Obama wanted to do something about it in a bipartisan way (BTW, what a sucker Obama is; thinking the GOP isn't a criminal enterprise but instead is a political party), but Mitch McConnell (who Sean Hannity says is NOT compromised by Putin) wouldn't take action.

    2. @12:58 - I know that's a Democratic talking point, but it makes no sense. The President didn't need any new laws to deal with criminal interference in our election by foreign nationals. Law enforcement and protection against bad actions by other countries are totally within a President's power to deal with.

    3. David, you treasonous bastard.

After nearly 2 years in office with access to every single intelligence source our nation has to give the President, Donald J Chickenshit, Acting President, stood on the world stage in Helsinki and said the following:

I have President Putin. He just said it’s not Russia. I will say this. I don’t see any reason why it would be,...

He didn't see any reason, David, you fucking whore.

And then he proceeded to have a private one on one meeting with uncle Vlad, gave no summary of their discussion, and proceeded to confiscate his interpreter's notes.

      Fuck you, you traitor.

Yeah, that's what DinC took from the Mueller Report - Obama bad black president.

    4. So, where's your server, Hillary?

    5. 3:03,
Wake up. You've been asleep for so long, you're missing everything. It's been 28 months since the the NY Times pretended to care that Republicans pretended to care about Hillary's email server.

  2. It has astonished me how asleep at the wheel Democrats seem to be concerning the changes in the Republican Party.

There's been an influx of white working class people who who were the foundation of the Democratic Party and there are other parts of a constituency that has come to see as 'not completely off-base' all the warnings about a "One Percent" society and yet the party insults them more than they make appeals to them.

The line about there being a club "you ain't in it" has never felt truer to more people and all democrats are concerned about is highlighting, rather than mitigating, the things that divide the members of this set.

    1. That's not their thinking, but suit yourself.

    2. No has yet explained why appeals to a *white* working class aren’t properly called identity politics.

      Delete
    3. The appeal is based on jobs, not ethnicity.

In fact, I'm not sure just how white the "white working class" is. The term is used to refer to people living in depressed areas, mostly in the Midwest. There may be lots of non-whites living in those areas.

      Delete
    4. Because "white" isn't the only descriptor. There's women who are a part of this constituency and "working class" too.

      Delete
    5. The very fact of calling it the “white” working class underscores the focus on racial (not ethnic) identity underlying the term. Otherwise, Cecelia and others would simply say “working class.”

      Delete
    6. But that would be less precise about the former DNC constituency that went for Trump and who could be wooed back or wooed over.

Democrats haven't lost "the working class" as an entirety.

      Delete
    7. Hmm. So the Democrats need to woo a group of voters that you have identified as, not simply working class, but “white” working class. Perhaps the Democrats need to appeal to this special segment of the working class by what? Appealing to their “whiteness?” That sure sounds like identity politics.

      Delete
    8. You appeal to them on the issue that matters to them. They fear they were abandoned or were even duped, by a class that promised them a share of the fun, but mostly kept the toys for themselves.

      Use your imagination... Or don't.

      Delete
    9. What issue matters to them, their being working class, or their being white? The Democrats have always stood for policies that benefit the working class, from Social Security to Medicare, to the ACA, to consumer protections, you name it. There’s nothing about race in any of those programs. The mythical white working class didn’t just discover the Republican Party when Trump came along. The defection has happened for a while. It’s all the more odd since the GOP has never been the party of the working class, having opposed every one of the programs I listed. It is as if this mythical bloc of white voters saw something that injured their whiteness, and not their working class status.

      Delete
    10. @6:00 There was a lot of unemployment. Good factory jobs had disappeared. They hoped Trump would make a change that would work in their favor. How they will vote in 2020 is unclear to me.

      Delete
    11. What about their working status would they have to complain about? Their race is far more of an important issue than their class. Their class is doing fine. After all the Democrats gave them Social Security and Medicare and the wonderful ACA. And Democrats have done so much to support their unions. And have done so much to bridge the divide between the rich and poor and keep jobs in America. And they've done so much to clamp down on predatory lending and healthcare prices. Working class Americans are doing awesome!

They have absolutely nothing to complain about.

Therefore, it is all about skin color. They feel like blacks are inferior. This is their prime motivation, it is clear. Blacks.

      Delete
    12. The main thing to remember is that Clinton in 2016 and Obama for eight years before that and Pelosi and Schumer now ... and all the Democrats ... have consistently, time and time again, put the needs of white working-class voters above their primary donors: multi-national corporations from Wall Street, Silicon Valley, health insurers, and other power centers whose agenda collides head on with the needs of average Americans.

Despite taking huge sums of money from these power centers, they always will side with the working class over them.

So, given this, it has to be blacks, with their long fingernails and insatiable appetite for watermelon and chicken, that drives these ignorant, racist, white hillbillies away from Democrats.

      Nothing else makes sense.

    13. One of the things I could never stomach about Santa Clara is all the god-durned trolls.

      Delete
    14. Democrats have been losing the "white working class" (and all other subsets of white voters) since they passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
That has NOTHING to do with Trump. The only thing Trump has proven is that Republicans are exactly who we always thought they were.

77,744 of “them” would do it, in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Not that big a “bunch”, but your mileage may vary.

  4. About Mayor Pete, I'd recommend Nathan Robinson's observations in their entirety LINK:

    [QUOTE]
To give a bit of color to the “from elite school boyhood to elite school undergraduate years” story, Buttigieg portrays himself as an Indiana hayseed for whom the bustling metropolis of Cambridge, MA was an alien world. So, even though he grew up on the campus of a top private university 90 minutes from Chicago, the Boston subway amazed him. “My face would[…] have stood out amid the grumpy Bostonians, betraying the fact that I was as exhilarated by the idea of being in a ‘big’ city as I was by the new marvels of college life.”

    >>>>In April 2001, a student group called the Progressive Student Labor Movement took over the offices of the university’s president, demanding a living wage for Harvard janitors and food workers. That spring, a daily diversion on the way to class was to see which national figure—Cornel West or Ted Kennedy one day, John Kerry or Robert Reich another—had turned up in the Yard to encourage the protesters.

Striding past the protesters and the politicians addressing them, on my way to a “Pizza and Politics” session with a journalist like Matt Bai or a governor like Howard Dean, I did not guess that the students poised to have the greatest near-term impact were not the social justice warriors at the protests […] but a few mostly apolitical geeks who were quietly at work in Kirkland House [Zuckerberg et al.]<<<<

I find this short passage very weird. See the way Buttigieg thinks here. He dismisses student labor activists with the right-wing pejorative “social justice warriors.” But more importantly, to this day it hasn’t even entered his mind that he could have joined the PSLM in the fight for a living wage.

Activists are an alien species, one he “strides past” to go to “Pizza & Politics” sessions with governors and New York Times journalists. He didn’t consider, and still hasn’t considered, the moral quandary that should come with being a student at an elite school that doesn’t pay its janitors a living wage. (In fact, years later Harvard was still refusing to pay its workers decently.)

If you come out of Harvard without noticing that it’s a deeply troubling place, you’re oblivious. It is an inequality factory, a place that trains the world’s A-students to rule over and ignore the working class. And yet, nowhere does Buttigieg seem to have even questioned the social role of an institution like Harvard....

  5. Jeez, so much chaff going nowhere here until the very end. I'm really enjoying NJR's series on the flaws (and bright spots) concerning those running for President on "our side." And there seem to be very few more prolific, astute writers.

  9. ...also, to this bullshit "white working class" controversy:

"White working class" bullshit was invented by liberal racists for the purpose of splitting the American working class. To continue their scummy globalist scheming.

But their racist lies finally caught up with them, and now they are doomed. In the US, in the UK, in continental Europe. Everywhere.

  11. Think about these two statements:

“so many of The Others see the world from his point of view. “

    And:

“Is Donald J. Trump mentally ill? “

The “Others” see the world in the same way a lying, grifting, conman, delusional fraud does?

And WE’RE supposed to accommodate that worldview?

We might as well give up facts and any and all issues that matter to us.

  12. Hey, Boris, how are you and you zombie cult doing with you Seth Rich conspiracy bullshit and your pal Assange doing?

Mueller Report: Assange Smeared Seth Rich to Cover for Russians

As laid out by Mueller, Assange’s involvement in Russia’s election interference began with a June 14, 2016 direct message to WikiLeaks’ Twitter account from “DC Leaks,” one of the false fronts created by the Russians to launder their hacked material.

“You announced your organization was preparing to publish more Hillary's emails,” the message read, according to Mueller’s report. “We are ready to support you. We have some sensitive information too, in particular, her financial documents. Let's do it together. What do you think about publishing our info at the same moment? Thank you.”

A week later, WikiLeaks reached out to a second GRU persona, Guccifer 2.0, and pitched WikiLeaks as the best outlet for the hacked material. On July 14, 2016, GRU officers used a Guccifer 2.0 email address to send WikiLeaks an encrypted one-gigabyte file named “wk dnc link I .txt.gpg.” Assange confirmed receipt, and on July 22 he published 20,000 DNC emails stolen during the GRU’s breach.

By then, it was no secret where the documents came from. The computer security firm CrowdStrike had already published its technical report on the DNC breach, which laid out a trail leading directly to Moscow and the GRU. Analysts at ThreatConnect independently presented evidence that Guccifer 2.0 and DC Leaks were fictional creations of that agency.

But rather than refuse to comment on his sources, as he’s done in other cases, Assange used his platform to deny that he got the material from Russians, and make statements at an alternative theory. On August 9, 2016, WikiLeaks’ Twitter feed announced a $20,000 reward for “information leading to conviction for the murder of DNC staffer Seth Rich.”

For some, the cryptic tweet was their first introduction to a grim and fantastical conspiracy theory rooted in a real-life tragedy that occurred the early morning of July 10, 2016 on a Washington DC sidewalk.
