...and then a bit of a walk: We're returning today to our sprawling campus. Full services, such as they are, will resume tomorrow.
We'll start with the nine letters the New York Times published in yesterday's Sunday Review concerning that journey to Arkansas. We were especially struck by the first letter of the nine.
We've also been reading Chanel Miller's book, Know My Name. The review in yesterday's Book Review section appeared on line a few weeks back and can be accessed here.

Several days ago a black woman was killed in her home by a Ft. Worth police officer while playing video games with her nephew. This happened a week after a Dallas police officer was found guilty of murdering her black neighbor while he was eating ice-cream and watching TV.
I know that letters to the editor of the NYTimes is to you news, not history. And is vastly more important to you than either death.
I know that you will never comment about either killing.
So to you, DinC, Mao, Trump and all you fellow travelers: Have a nice day.
For TDH, the only important thing is attacking liberals and defending Roy Moore, Ron Johnson and Donald Trump.

ReplyDeleteTrump is too incompetent to do anything without a nefarious reason. In this case, he is circumventing court decisions and trying to use the UC Census to obtain citizenship data on people residing in the US using state records.
What will he use that citizenship data for? Some are concerned that this will have a chilling effect on participation by Latinos in the census. I am more concerned that this data will be used to round people up and put them in camps, deny them jobs, or some similar hostile action against targeted people. Or perhaps it will be used to throw people with Spanish surnames off of voter rolls.
I don't believe they would go to all this trouble simply to suppress Latino participation in the census. The point of including citizenship questions on the census cannot have been simply to suppress Latino participation. I believe it goes beyond that.
