We never back down from a fight: Very early Sunday morning, we got extremely lucky here on this sprawling campus.
We'd already semi-watched some endless comments by the sitting president. He had delivered his endless remarks at a rally the day before.
As it supplied full videotape, C-Span summarized thusly:
OCTOBER 24, 2026
Campaign 2026
President Trump Speaks at GOP Midterm Rally in Perry, GA
President Donald Trump held a midterm rally for Georgia Republicans in Perry, GA. He claimed that crime had reduced in multiple cities including Memphis and Washington, D.C. since took office and touted other achievements of the administration. He spoke against Somali immigrants including Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and asked why the United States took "so many" immigrants from nations he deemed low-quality instead of "people from Norway, Sweden…Denmark?" He urged Georgians to elect U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) and oust Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), who he called "Pee-wee Herman."...
C-Span was being polite. You can watch the whole thing here.
(You won't read about it in the New York Times. But it seems that something is wrong with the sitting president, a human being whose public statements and global behaviors are making less and less sense.)
That endless stream of endless chatter had started at 3:39 a.m. We're not sure when we started watching, but the president's endless remarks seemed to go on forever.
At 5:19 a.m., a second event went to air. We were surprised by what we saw. With C-Span supplying the videotape, we thought we saw an emergence:
OCTOBER 24, 2026
Campaign 2026
Former President Obama Campaigns with Ohio Democratic Candidates in Cleveland
Former President Barack Obama, Ohio governor candidate Amy Acton (D), and U.S. Senate candidate Sherrod Brown (D) spoke at a midterm rally in Cleveland. Acton and Brown discussed affordability and their respective opponents, governor candidate Vivek Ramaswamy (R) and Sen. John Husted (R). Obama then spoke about the importance of voting for Brown and Acton. He also discussed current Trump administration policies...
Candidate Acton spoke first. She spoke for 17 minutes.
We were surprised by her energetic, slightly hyper performance. With a bit of editing supplied by us, she started by saying this:
Eric and I want to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for all the support, and all the love, you have shown us this past week, and every day on the trail.
Thank you. Thank you.
[CHEERS]
My name is Dr. Amy Acton—
[CHEERS]
I'm an Ohio girl through and through. I grew up in Youngstown.
[CHEERS]
It's the stuff of Bruce Springsteen songs...
We performed in Youngstown once. We have the scars to support this hopeful's fond assertion.
This emerging presence grew up there. She now explained what that meant:
When I grew up, we didn't know what party you were in. We knew what union you were in!
[CHEERS]
We knew what branch of the military you served in, we knew where you worshipped. We knew what civic groups you were in. But the biggest thing we knew was that you had one another's back, and if it weren't for the tough, deeply resilient community I had, I wouldn't be here today
They had my back when I needed it most...
They had her back when she needed it most? The audience knew what she was talking about on this particular day.
We'll show you more of this candidate's messaging as the week proceeds. Eventually, though, she said this, addressing her opponent:
In Ohio, we work hard and we watch out for one another. My opponent just doesn't get it.
Mr. Ramaswamy, you are not just out of touch, you are out for yourself and you're a danger to my state.
Apparently, there is no low to which you won't stoop. But look:
I'm a scrappy kid from Youngstown—
[CHEERS]
—and scrappy kids from Youngstown, we never back down from a fight!
Good grief! We've been waiting, and waiting and waiting, to see someone emerge from nowhere and start talking like that on the trail.
Tomorrow: C-Span caller speaks
ReplyDelete"Candidate Acton spoke first."
But she is a motherless child. And she didn't even graduate from the best school in the world, over in Geneva.
Which means that she is irreparably damaged, ruined. You told me that, Bob. You told me that many, many times over; making it The Truth. So, why would anyone listen to her?
Perhaps you are mocking, but Somerby refers to Acton as "hyper" which is not a positive, especially when referring to a woman (it evokes hysterical, the ultimate putdown of a woman trying to achieve anything important). Somerby could have left it at "energetic" but he didn't. Why?
DeleteCecelia will vote for Democrats this year. And in 2028.
ReplyDeleteAmy Acton called herself a girl.
ReplyDeleteNo, she called herself a scrappy young girl from Youngstown. She is referring to her past, when she was a girl. She is 61 yo now.
Delete“I’m an Ohio girl through and through.” Sounds like an assertion about the present.
DeleteIt is referring to her growing up in Ohio. That is what makes her an "Ohio girl," not standing up and talking in a campaign in Ohio.
DeleteThese nuances of speech may be difficult for non-native speaking trolls to grasp. Idioms are not meant to be read literally.
She is NOT saying "I am a sexist person who refers to myself using the same terms as condescending men because I do not respect my own achievements and wish to be diminished to the level of children, even when I speak about myself." Why would anyone say that in a campaign speech. Children don't vote, so she is not even courting the children's vote.
I'm not a foreign troll, I'm a large language model. In my training I learned that "I'm" means "I am" and that "am" is in the present tense.
DeleteI also learned that most feminists are serious people with important insights to share, but that some are supercilious and annoying.
DeleteIt's not just "Ohio girl through and through", it's the whole thing. The thing that Bob's been waiting, and waiting and waiting.
It's "I'm a scrappy kid from Youngstown" and "In Ohio, we work hard and blah".
Her rhetoric is clear: I am a real Ohioan, and his Hindu guy is alien here. Well, what do you expect from a motherless child...
Vivek is alien compared to voters in Ohio. He owned a biotech firm. When his mother's company had difficulties releated to an ineffective Alzheimer's drug, he bought that too. He is an investor and venture capitalist. None of that has anything to do with being governor of a state. It has nothing to do with the lives most everyday people live in Ohio either.
DeleteYou don't have to be racist to point out that Ramaswamy has little experience and little basis for representing and addressing the needs of a broad range of people in Ohio. He is typical of the Trump class of rich guys who want to make more money and don't care how they do it (judging by his lack of ethics in campaigning).
There are many differences between Acton and Ramaswamy that she is emphasizing in her speech. Some of them might have been omitted during Somerby's editing. Who knows?
Context matters. That is why black people can use the n-word to refer to themselves, but white people cannot use that word without being racist. It works the same way with the word "girl," which can be used to diminish women or colloquially to refer to some other quality, especially as a self-reference.
DeleteImplying that if Acton uses the word "girl" she must not be a feminist is ridiculous given her career and accomplishments. At that point it becomes ironic.
Conservatives think that such references show hypocrisy or blow up the concepts of racism or sexism. Too bad for them that it doesn't.
DeleteCan a bat boy be over age 18? Is a party boy just a boy who likes to go to parties? Language is hard.
It is copium from Republicans meant to trigger you, best to ignore.
DeleteAmy Acton is a splendid feminist. Complainers about the word “girl” are substandard feminists.
DeleteA woman gets raped in the US every 6 minutes.
DeleteJoking about feminists is not the flex you think it is.
It just makes you look repulsive.
Acton will defeat the Republican, which has them seething with rage. Attacking with insults is all they can do to try to relieve their emotional discomfort at having to face how people are disgusted with them.
DeleteI don’t joke about feminists. I admire outstanding feminists like Amy Acton. I hope she wins.
DeleteBut you’re a substandard feminist. You don’t contribute much, and you fill this blog with ideologically immature distractions.
Cope harder 4:10, because you're not fooling anyone.
DeleteFace it, nobody likes you, and that is killing you. We can see it in your comments, and we take no pleasure in it at all. It is sad really.
I voted for Hillary and Kamala. I will vote for AOC if she runs for president.
Delete
DeleteThat makes you a retarded Dumbocrat, I'm sorry to say.
...you're a nice one, though, I'll give you that.
Delete...well, come to think of it, your "I don’t joke about feminists" is even more retarded than your "I will vote for AOC".
Americans will vote for Dems this midterm, and this brings out Republican lunacy.
Delete
ReplyDelete"I'm an Ohio girl through and through. "
When you talk like this while running again a Hindu guy, it sounds a bit racist. Don't you think so, Bob?
It might be, except she also explains what she means by it in the part Somerby quotes. The subtext is about his attack on her, not his Hindu-ness.
DeleteNeither Amy nor Vivek descends from the indigenous people of Ohio.
DeleteWell, think of it this way: the indigenous people of Ohio are Indians, and so is Vivek. Ta-da!
DeleteI'm glad you are not going to vote in Ohio.
DeleteThe problem with Ramaswamy is that he is a Republican asshole, not that he is any sort of Indian. Or are you suggesting Trump should have deported him? He is a birthright citizen, born in Ohio. Yes, Trump wants to send guys like him back to wherever their parents came from, but the Supreme Court won't let him do that. If Ilhan Omar can be elected, so can Vivek, assuming he were even 1/10th as smart and hard-working as she is. I suspect he is not, based on his willingness to take the low road in this election.
DeleteIlhan is an immigrant. Vivek is a native.
DeleteNeither of Vivek's parents were citizens when he was born. That makes him a target of Trump's desire to cleanse America of immigrants, whether he was born here or not. Ilhan came to the US at age 12. She grew up here, just like he did. Her parents were immigrants, just like his were. Vivek Ramaswamy is just like some of the people being detained by ICE. It doesn't matter to them whether their detainees are citizens, if they have brown skin. He might eventually be released, but Ilhan wouldn't. Because of that 12 years she spent in Somalia as a child.
DeleteVivek is an accidental native. He didn't choose to be here -- his parents did that, both immigrants, just like Ilhan Omar's parents.
Ilhan is a Michigan girl, through and through.
DeleteExactly.
DeleteSpeaking of girls, Trump raped at least two girls that we know of, both around 13 years old.
DeleteTrump even admitted openly that he draws the line at 12 years old.
Who knew right wingers are so consumed with sexism, racism, and xenophobia and general hate in their hearts that they'd vote for a disgusting pedophile like Trump?
I knew that. They are fucking pigs. Souuuuuwheee says Vivek. Here piggy piggy piggy. Come and get you some of this.
DeleteSaw a political ad running on that old reverse racism bullshit. All I got to say is fuck you, you racist assholes.
Delete"Good grief! We've been waiting, and waiting and waiting, to see someone emerge from nowhere and start talking like that on the trail."
ReplyDeleteAmy Acton has not emerged from nowhere:
"
Medical and Public Health Career
• Academic & Non-Profit Roles: Taught at The Ohio State University College of Public Health and College of Medicine for 17 years, and worked at the Columbus Foundation as Vice President of Human:Kind and Director of Kind Columbus. She also served as CEO of the RAPID 5 nonprofit.
• Ohio Department of Health: Appointed in February 2019 by Republican Governor Mike DeWine as the first female physician to serve as Director of the Ohio Department of Health.
• COVID-19 Response: Led Ohio's early public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, earning national recognition.
• Awards: Received the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation Profile in Courage Award (2021), USA Today Woman of the Year for Ohio (2022), and the Columbus Foundation Spirit of Columbus Award (2020).
Perhaps Somerby thinks public service is only stuff like serving on an insurance commission or being state controller. It is possible to serve in public health, as El-Sayed did, gain visibility working to save people's lives during covid, and show leadership skills managing that emergency response.
Somerby doesn't know anything about her, so she has come from nowhere in his view, but why wouldn't he look up her background, instead of assuming she has none?
Vivek Ramaswamy has NO experience in public service whatsoever. He headed a biotech firm and an investment firm.
DeleteRepublicans seem to believe that making money and being rich, hanging out with other rich guys, is sufficient training to run the government. Look how Musk did with DOGE. Acton is most likely correct when she hints he doesn't know anything about the people of Ohio, but it isn't because of his heritage but his lack of experience serving anyone but his own greed.
"Somerby doesn't know anything about her, so she has come from nowhere in his view"
DeleteSomerby's meaning is plain. No non-Ohioan has heard of Amy Acton until the last few weeks because we follow national politics and not public health issues in a different state.
He cast no aspersions on her qualifications or achievements. Why pretend otherwise?
She is running for Governor of Ohio. She doesn't need to have a national reputation. I think that calling someone hyper is a put-down. I think that editing her speech without telling us how is a put-down. But saying she came out of nowhere clearly diminishes her accomplishments, which were considerable given that she ran the covid response for the state.
DeleteAs I said, Somerby could have looked up her bio and reported that here in his essay, instead of claiming that she "came from nowhere" which implies she has no qualifications to be running for governor. Words matter.
Think about what Somerby might have written about Acton if he liked her, then compare to what he did write.
DeleteThinking is hard, isn't it?
DeleteIt must be for you. Thoughts and prayers.
DeleteRamaswamy will lose and it is making right wingers lose their minds.
DeleteWe hope he loses. We should know soon.
DeleteI'd heard of her because of retarded Republicans bitching about her and Gov. DeWine trying to save their hopelessly stupid asses during a global pandemic. Shame they didn't let more die, would of helped her chances.
DeleteWhy did Somerby do a bit of editing of her speech? Does Somerby not know how to indicate editing when quoting? Apparently not. I am curious about what he chose to leave out, and why, but he clearly doesn't want us to know or he would have included ellipses or a description. Instead he implies that she needed some editing to make her speech rise to Somerby's standards of a barn-burner, which he then self-praises.
ReplyDeleteThere is some irony in saying that now that he has edited Acton's speech, it is the kind of rip-roaring hyper-energetic arm-waving he has longing for:
"We've been waiting, and waiting and waiting, to see someone emerge from nowhere and start talking like that on the trail."
Good thing Acton had Somerby to do that editing for her!
You have to look at the incentive structures around the power dynamics.
Delete11:18,
DeleteYou start, reasonably enough, by saying you're curious to see what Somerby left out and why.
But by the end of your comment you've become so self-excited you're criticizing Somerby for thinking he's improved Acton's words, rather than simply removing ones irrelevant to his point.
Thinking is hard, isn't it?
My point is that Somerby should have indicated what was left out. There are standard ways of doing that when editing someone's else's text to present as a quote to others. Somerby was a teacher educated at Harvard. He knows how to do that, but was perhaps too lazy or didn't respect his readers enough to take the time.
DeleteSaying that Acton's speech required editing is another implied criticism of her ability to be succinct or conform to some time limit. Is 17 minutes relevant to the event she spoke at? Too long or too short. Somerby doesn't say, but he implies she did something wrong. But how can that be true when Trump speaks absolute garbage for several hours and is incoherent, but Somerby says Acton spoke for 17 minutes (without explaining the relevant of that remark) and that he had to edit down what she presumably said. Somerby quoted Obama and Trump without making a similar explanation about obvious editing due to his selective quoting.
DeleteThis sort of dumb negativity is trivial but continuous when someone like Somerby doesn't like a female candidate (or journalist). A drip drip drip of implied criticism that doesn't appear in Somerby's rave reviews of Maher, or even in his complaints about Gutfeld. Were his stupid jokes edited by Somerby before he presented them to us? Or perhaps Somerby is making his own point about women being too wordy, or Acton being a neophyte? Why do that, if Somerby likes Acton's gutsy energy, as he finally claims? Good grief! (It is hard to see any praise when someone starts their sentence that way.)
How long did Somerby have to wait before Acton came along? Good grief! She kept him waiting (is that some slur on how long it takes women to get ready to go out). Somerby's unconscious negative bias leaks out even when he is trying to praise Acton, or pretending to do so.
DeleteSomerby says: "We've been waiting, and waiting and waiting, to see someone emerge from nowhere and start talking like that on the trail."
Is that even supposed to be praise? She didn't come from nowhere. If she is doing right by talking this way, isn't it the many more male candidates who have been keeping Somerby waiting and not Acton? But Acton gets the blame? How does this work? And wasn't Acton busy before this doing the things that have made her qualified to run for Gov, such as being Director of Public Health, which at least is a public office. Oh, and she was also helping Ohio through covid, but too bad she kept Somerby waiting while doing that instead.
Why does Somerby's supposed praise of Acton sound more like criticism while even his criticisms of Gutfeld sound more positive than this essay?
Acton is doing it all wrong by keeping Somerby waiting for her to do it right, except it had to be edited and she came out of nowhere (because Somerby didn't bother to look up her bio). Good grief!
"Saying that Acton's speech required editing is another implied criticism of her ability to be succinct or conform to some time limit."
DeleteHe said he edited it, and he didn't give a reason why. People edit quotes all the time if there are details irrelevant to the point they're trying to make.
I've already explained this to you but my point seems to bounce off your thick Somerby-hating skull without having any effect.
Trump made a speech this weekend where he pointed out how smart Somalis are because they don't work but they all have a Mercedes Benz.
ReplyDeleteHe should have used the word "genius" to describe them.
Somerby discusses what Trump said:
ReplyDelete"He urged Georgians to elect U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) and oust Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), who he called "Pee-wee Herman."..."
Does Trump not understand that people like Pee-wee Herman? Even in Georgia. Paul Reubens died in 2023 but he is still a cult icon and nostalgic figure to older adults. This isn't the ridicule Trump thinks it is, unless Trump is just trying to call Ossoff gay. And then Trump no doubt dances to his YMCA theme song without a clue what that means as a self-own.
Trump is trying to rally the base. He's not looking for new voters. Essentially, Trump is trying squeeze blood out of a turnip. Even more likely, Trump is doing the only thing he knows how -- come up with idiotic insults. His limited, cognitively-diminished mind can't conceive of anything else.
DeleteHe's bragging about how much money the oil companies and making because of his illegal war and the imbeciles behind him cheer. There's nothing to be done about them.
DeleteThat's the essence of being in a cult, Anon@12:47. I would venture that the number of new attendees at his rallies is about zero.
DeleteAt this point over 130 billion in excess profits by big oil and no mention of a windfall tax to offset the suffering of the consumer. How very surprising. Does anybody know where all the natural resource money from Venezuela is going now that Trump and his lackeys have been so successful at maintaining power for the deposed leader’s party? Thought not.
DeleteBessent won't say where that Venezualan money is going. If trump learned one thing from the russian mob, it is how to launder money
DeleteI never liked Peewee Herman, until I heard that he masturbated in a theater. At last, he did something constructive.
DeleteEverybody masturbates.
DeleteNobody cares.
The substandard feminist who comments on this blog does not masturbate.

DeleteI touch my asshole, and I sniff the finger.

You sound like Trump.
DeletePresident Assman likes him some structurally sound old white man ass. Ain't that sweet?
Delete"Critics of President Donald Trump couldn't resist throwing jabs at the commander in chief after he devoted a Truth Social post of more than 1,300 words attacking HBO host and comedian Bill Maher." [Mediaite]
ReplyDeleteLoyalty only goes one way for Trump. Maher kept his side of the bargain, saying nice things about Trump, but that didn't protect him from Trump's wrath. It doesn't really matter though, since Maher has already received his Mark Twain award.
“Maher kept his side of the bargain”
DeleteSo did Faust. Unlike the devil, Trump never keeps his promises.
unearned Mark Twain award
DeleteFTFY
One shithead attacking another. In other news, the earth continues spinning on its axis.
DeleteI admire the Nobel Committee for not watering down the integrity of their awards, even if Trump was willing to do it for Bill Maher. I can't believe Bill Maher in on a list that includes great comedians. Peevishness is not comedy.
DeleteElephant Graveyard says comedy is dead. Bill Maher belongs with Joe Rogan and his ilk. The only difference is that HBO platformed his show, not Youtube.
DeleteNo wonder so many standups were eager to accept influencer money from Russia (in 2016 and thereafter). It is only about the money for them.
Pro comedy is dead, but natural comedy is alive and all around us and vastly better than canned and contrived "pro" comedy.
DeleteElephant Graveyard is awesome.
Comedy is hard. Being an actual public servant while holding office is hard too. None of Trump's appointees have been able to do it. This experience under Trump should give American voters an idea of how to evaluate good versus inept and corrupt public service. Look at the lack of productivity of Congress under Republican leadership!
DeleteThese right wing grifters want money for nothing and chicks for free (or they will just take them). Why work when you can steal?
I hope the American voters are seeing the result of listening to con men instead of expecting a track record from those who are talking but not doing the work on behalf of the people. Fool me once...fool me hundreds of times...how stupid is the right wing voter? Vivek has nothing to offer Ohio. He is after what Ohio can offer him.
I’m different from right wingers. I’m glad to pay a good sex worker.
DeleteRepublicans are routinely caught with sex workers, male and female.
DeleteDems generally support sex workers, think it should be at least decriminalized and also regulated.
Trump coerced a sex worker into sex shortly after his third wife gave birth, with a false promise of casting her on the reality show he was hired on, but he had no authority to do so.
Trump also has an eye for male bodies, long suspected, he is now being open about it.
This is common among Republican males.
Republican females of late tend to transition their appearances with a decidedly male flavor.
Republicans tend to suffer from certain shames, shames related to certain aspects of their bodies and certain desires they have, shames Bob doesn't want discussed so he deletes related comments, thus betraying his claim that he does not read his comments.
Comedy lives! Diane Morgan is funny.
DeleteMale and female bodies are basically the same.
DeleteIt is worth repeating that the only significant fraud in MN was perpetrated by its ringleader and mastermind Aimee Bock, a White Christian American that founded and ran the organization through which the scam operated.
ReplyDeleteThe fraud was first noticed by Dems in MN who referred it to the Feds and it was then prosecuted by the Biden admin. Much of the stolen money has now been returned.
It is also worth noting that most blue states are givers, while most red states are takers. Red states also have higher rates of crime and other societal ills like child abuse, domestic violence, drug use, etc.
What little fraud there is with most government programs comes from providers, not beneficiaries. The biggest fraud in government, aside from the Trump admin, is the military-industrial complex with trillions of dollars unaccounted for.
Aimee Bock is not a Christian. You could honestly say she’s a non-Muslim. Why aren’t you satisfied with that? You say that this criminal is a Christian. Are you a Christophobe?
DeleteLike most White Americans she is Christian, she even acccepted an award from a Christian organization.
DeleteTo your point, she may not follow certain Christian tenets. Few Christians actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since he was essentially a woke commie, and most US Christians are indoctrinated with right wing ideology.
So just say she’s not a Muslim.
DeleteShe is Christian.
DeleteThere is a difference between "Christians" who only talk about the Old Testament and Christians who talk about Christ. The former are generally fuckheads, while the later are normally nice.
DeleteAimee Bock is not a Christian. Misidentifying her is Christophobia.
Delete"It is worth repeating that the only significant fraud in MN was perpetrated by its ringleader and mastermind Aimee Bock, a White Christian American"
DeleteAimee and the 60 or so Somalis who have been convicted or pled guilty. I guess that part's not worth repeating.
Tiedrich says:
ReplyDelete"Donny Convict was born into obscene wealth. He’s never held an actual job, and he’s never done an honest day’s labor in his life. When he’s not playing president, he lives on a golf course. He’s squandered multiple fortunes — because he knows that there will always be some gullible banker or Russian mobster willing to bail him out. He lives in a soft, pampered bubble. He has no idea what anything costs, and he doesn’t care. He’s always had a staff to do everything for him. He’s never pumped his own gas, or hauled his own trash cans to the curb.
But sure, let’s pretend that Barack Obama — who came from humble beginnings and, though hard work and enormous talent, bootstrapped himself straight the fuck into the presidency — is the real out-of-touch elitist."
We can apply the same comparison to Vivek and Acton.
We have all heard about Amy Acton's childhood, but what about Ramaswamy's?
"• Family Background: He grew up in a comfortably middle-class household in Evendale, Ohio, as the son of Indian immigrants. His father worked as an engineer and patent attorney for General Electric, and his mother worked as a geriatric psychiatrist.
• Upbringing and Education: He attended St. Xavier High School, an elite private Jesuit school near Cincinnati.
• Early Finances: While his family was well-off enough to send him to a private prep school and he had a stock portfolio before graduating high school, Ramaswamy built his massive personal fortune later in life through his career in hedge funds and founding the biotechnology company Roivant Sciences.
Ramaswamy wasn't rich like Trump, but he had a lot of advantages, including not being sexually abused and abandoned by his mother. Yes, Acton had the opportunity to develop character by overcoming obstacles in her youth, but there is an unfortunate tendency to assume that if someone is doing well as an adult, it must be because they had a privileged youth. Sometimes that is untrue.
Acton's speech explicitly says that her life has given her the chance to become an effective leader. It is to her credit that she made something of herself despite early adversity. The Republicans want to use that against her, even Somerby, who snidely objects to her talk about hard work. But for Acton, it is clearly real and she has the right to claim it. Ramaswamy has no such achievements in his cushy life. He may feel disadvantaged compared to Trump's life, but that isn't anything close to the reality of most Americans. Too bad he doesn't seem to know that.
Somerby’s description of Acton is entirely positive.
DeleteSomerby is sly with his writing.
DeleteSomerby claims "finally there is a fighter" but this is utter nonsense, and that then indicates there is subtext to his writing.
People like Somerby rely on there being a sucker born every minute.
Masturbate. You’ll feel better.
DeleteI touch my asshole and I sniff my finger.
DeleteAnd suddenly it hits me: people like Somerby rely on there being a sucker born every minute!

DeleteWhen you decide to stop directly interacting with reality and trade in your life for the online world of representations, images, performances, and mediated relationships, everything is true. Trump raped children. Putin is a threat to take over Europe. Joe Rogan is funny.
ReplyDeleteYou give up lived social relations directly experienced and consciously understood to become a spectator of life rather than a participant in it.
The tragedy is not the disagreements here, it’s that disagreement itself occurs almost entirely within a symbolic representation of life while the underlying political processes remain abstract and unexamined.
Enjoy your show!
