Margin now 2.1 points: This being an alternate Tuesday, we'll be posting a bit later than usual today.
Out in the world of slow vote counting and actual facts, the nationwide popular vote now looks like this, according to CNN:
Nationwide popular vote (to date), 2024
Candidate Trump: 74,989,915 votes (50.2%)
Candidate Harris: 71,794,548 votes (48.1%)
Just for the record:
The victory margin is sliding down toward two points (or less), with something like three million votes still uncounted in California alone. Just for the record, this is the current state of the overwhelmingly massive landslide victory amassed by the candidate who won.
Our general view:
As a general matter, it's good to establish some basic facts before we start writing our novels.
ReplyDeleteMy head is shaved. "Fascists Rule My Country" tattooed on my forehead. I have two months to move to Canada.
What an asshole Somerby is!
I am Corby.
Canada is seriously gearing up for an influx from the US.
DeleteThese are not your grandfather's fascists.
DeleteThese ones, led by masculinely named men like "Tucker", "Jordan", and "Donald" (LOL) are afraid they'll get their asses kicked by drag queens.
Slapping them on the nose with a wet newspaper is the early 21st century version of D-Day.
Idk, the latent homosexuality seen in “men” like Tucker, Jordan, Knowles, Trump, et al is not that different than in the Nazi “men” of the past, and one can even draw a line back to the Stoics and the abuse of slave boys.
DeleteThat homophobia drives much of their fascism is unsurprising.
More proof "Every right-wing accusation is really a confession."
Delete"Margin now 2.1 points"
ReplyDelete2.1 points of what?
Are you dumb? The election result is this: The Donald has won, 312 to 226. Now and forever.
"2.1 points of what?"
DeletePercent of the vote. Are you dumb?
You are dumb, soros-bot.
DeleteUS President-elect Donald Trump has won 312 of 538 electoral votes. That's certainly more than 2.1 points of anything.
Trump won by barely matching or even losing support vs his loss in 2020, considering population growth, so the point is Trump has no mandate; Trump remains one of our least popular politicians in history, and because Trump has no impulse control, he will likely drag down the Republican Party for his own personal benefit (tariffs, deregulation leading to polluted air and water, letting Putin do whatever he wants, kowtowing to corporate interests, tax cuts for the rich paid by tax increases for everyone else, making America a laughingstock to the rest of the world, etc). It couldn’t happen to better people, bless their hearts.
Delete"US President-elect Donald Trump has won 312 of 538 electoral votes."
DeleteRight. But the electoral college is the undemocratic part of our democracy. Percentage of the popular vote is a better indicator of the will of the people.
I don't know about your democracy soros-bot, but in the US of A percentage of the popular vote has no significance whatsoever.
DeleteWhatever you say Mr. Soros. We're all your humble servants.
DeleteWould that it were so.
DeleteThey would claim a landslide and a mandate to do whatever they want no matter what the margin.
ReplyDeleteThis feels like Somerby’s excuse for rubbing our noses in the result. These essays are pointless.
Agree.
DeleteIt’s worse, some of Biden’s most impactful policies won’t be in full effect until 2025 and beyond, and Trump will slyly take credit for them, corporate media will allow it, and Somerby will stay silent on the subject, too busy being a stenographer for Republicans.
DeleteCarville takes his I told you so lap. He doesn't appreciate the racist and sexist, out of touch identity obsessed party with childish and deranged "modern" religion Democrats have become but Trump voters do.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECXzXtzuxGg
You'd think Trump voters, who appreciate the racist and sexist, out of touch identity obsessed party with childish and deranged "modern" religion Democrats have become, would step up and vote for them, instead of the party of bigotry, for a change.
DeleteRepublicans endlessly cry and whine about their racism and sexism being called out, but now suddenly “appreciate” it? It’s all incoherent hogwash, it’d be laughable, if Republicans didn’t spread so much misery in the world.
DeleteThe writing’s on the wall, Republicans have fucked around, and now they’re about to find out.
It is increasingly apparent that this election was determined by three main factors:
ReplyDelete1) less widespread use of mail in ballots than 2020
2) the racism and sexism that is rampant in our society
3) Republican trickery, such as voter suppression, kicking people off voter rolls, having nearly 3 million ballots rejected using a Jim Crow era law, massive bomb threats to polling stations, etc.
Why didn’t the Dems “steal” this election, like they supposedly did the last one?
ReplyDeleteThey were too busy keeping the border closed and tamping down inflation.
DeleteBetter sarcasm. They did tamp down on inflation.
DeleteNeither of those things would prevent or interfere with Dems “stealing” the election.
DeleteBiden should stage an insurrection like Trump did. The GOP understands that that’s what patriots do when you “lose” an election.
DeleteFirst thing he should do is asking his nurse to get his diaper changed.
DeleteThen stage an insurrection like Trump based on the Big Lie. Right?
DeleteWhy do White male Republican gun enthusiasts keep trying to “assassinate” Trump?
ReplyDeleteBecause White male Americans view guns as an extension of their manhood, a way to mask their insecurities about their own manhood, and a way to express their inner dark desires towards other men.
DeleteTrump is never going to prison.
ReplyDeleteThreatening him with prison literally caused him to become the most powerful man in the world again.
Fake news. Trump was never going to go to prison due to logistical issues. Trump going to prison had little impact on the election, he actually lost support from 2020, when he lost the election. Trump can not avoid his state/civil prosecutions, he will still have to pay those hundreds of millions of dollars, and he will still have to deal with facing responsibility for his crimes.
DeleteIn a sane country, a man (Trump) who attempted a coup d’etat and stole classified documents would either be in prison or barred from holding public office.
DeleteBut at this blog, pity was recommended for that man, and the people trying to hold him accountable were subjected to withering attacks.
People recognize Vyshinskyist abuse of power when they see it. Lectures about "norms and Democracy" made it all the more obvious.
Delete"people trying to hold him accountable were subjected to withering attacks."
DeleteNo. Jack Smith was not subject to any attacks, withering or otherwise.
Somerby attacked those who were obsessed with holding him accountable, to the exclusion of all other issues.
It would have been so much more satisfying for the chickenshit coward to allow it come to trial so he could prove this mythical abuse of power in a courtroom with rules of evidence.
DeleteNowadays, dumbfuck fascist cult members just all say it to each other and they all nod their heads.
Don't worry 11:55 AM, eventually the Democrat party cult will collapse.
DeleteThat's right, you fucking coward. Don't ever address the point.
Delete10 million members of the Democrat cult mysteriously disappeared this year.
DeleteAnd that's just a beginning.
"Somerby attacked those who were obsessed with holding him accountable, to the exclusion of all other issues"
DeleteThis characterizes no one. What a braindead comment.
It characterizes MSNBC's programming in its entirety.
Delete"Vyshinskyist abuse of power"
DeleteHow about the CHEATING BIG fraud Inspector Trump caught the Democrats at in Pennsylvania?
Will there even be an investigation, let alone a prosecution? Don't we want to stamp out voter fraud in this country?
Inspector Trump will follow through, won't he?
Polling, including exit polls, indicate immigration was the least concerning issue for Dems. Why is Somerby so focused on immigration when it is clear it had no electoral impact for Biden or Harris, when it is clear it is an issue that only serves Republicans?
ReplyDeleteI have been following two different news stories. I suspect they are actually different ways of spinning the same event.
ReplyDeleteA. Trump hasn’t signed a form that would allow certain defense information to be shared with him. This threatens national security.
B. Trump wisely did not sign a form for the government to contribute to the cost of the transition team, because it would impose conditions that should be avoided.
Can anyone confirm or refute whether these two stories refer to the same form?
Go fuck yourself, you fascist dick.
Delete"Trump wisely"
DeleteHa! Good use of sarcasm.
Here is the question you always should ask immediately when Dickhead in Cal tries to send everyone on a merry chase.
DeleteWOULD IT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO THE FASCIST PRICK EITHER WAY?
Not a whit.
I wonder if The Donald will donate all of his presidential salary again.
DeletePerhaps I ought to have mentioned that A was the version promulgated by liberal. B was the version promulgated by conservatives.
DeleteThis will be the most corrupt administration in history.
DeleteYou also forgot to mention that doing A is a complying with a law, Dickhead.
DeleteYes, @12:26 I know that Senator Warren made this claim. But, I haven't seen an explanation or the law which B allegedly violates. Nor have I seen others agreeing with her.
Delete11:17 is obviously Fake David, mocking the real David for his insipidness.
DeleteTrump signed the bill requiring the pledge in early 2020, Dickhead in Cal.
DeleteA source familiar with the process acknowledged that details are still being worked out with the Biden administration regarding the ethics agreement, which is required by law under the Presidential Transition Act and which applies to all members of the transition team. Updates to that bill requiring the ethics pledge were introduced by Trump ally Sen. Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican, and signed into law by Trump himself in March 2020.https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/09/politics/trump-transition-ethics-pledge-timing/index.html
DeleteYou couldn't find it, eh Dickhead?
David, I think thse stories do refer to the same required form. Also, I think 212:57's cite is correct.
DeleteIf you're feeling ambitious, you can read a Congressional Research Service report on the transition act here.
DeleteThe bulk of it describes the services available for an incoming president from the GSA. Funding for the transition is a pittance compared to what Trump's big donors can provide, so it doesn't surprise me much that he's not hurrying to sign up for it.
However, the last two pages of this report describe the disclosures and security clearances required by the law, and the Trump team seems to be ignoring them. I'll guess that someone will opine that those requirements don't apply if the transition team foregoes the government money. There could be a fight about it, but it won't get far in the short time before inauguration day.
Today's post from Our Host offers an interesting anchor point for all of the opinionizing we'll see and hear in the weeks ahead. Trump and his team will boast about the "massive landslide" victory they achieved. Everyone else will call it a squeaker.
ReplyDeleteSo, yes, a few simple facts are needed to make sense of the crazy claims to come.
But rest assured that, just like last time, Trump's team will offer us "alternative facts," and those will very quickly become revealed wisdom to Trump's faithful.
