Our own tribe, in service to scandal!

Secret Service steals Pence: We wish we could show you what Jonathan Lemire said about Mike Pence and the Secret Service.

The sidekick said it this very morning, during Morning Joe's first half hour. The program's producers didn't post the videotape, so let's just put it this way:

Like Harry Litman before him, Lemire seemed to be trying to create the appearance of yet another scandal. To our ear, he seemed to be trying to semi-suggest that Pence's Secret Service agents may have been in the plot on January 6—that Pence had to foil their plans.

That said, insinuations are everywhere at tribalized times like these. Here's what Benjamin  Hart has said today at New York Magazine's Intelligencer site:

HART (7/18/22): The role of the Secret Service in the events of January 6 has come to the fore in recent testimony before the January 6 Committee. Star witness Cassidy Hutchinson testified that Tony Ornato, then a deputy White House chief of staff and previously the head of former president Trump’s security detail, told her that Trump was so upset that he couldn’t go to the Capitol on January 6 that he attempted to grab the steering wheel of a Secret Service vehicle. After Hutchinson’s testimony, anonymous sources disputed that Ornato had ever related such a story, but his status as a Trump loyalist raised skepticism about his credibility.

The committee has also detailed how Secret Service agents wanted to whisk former vice-president Mike Pence away from the violence at the Capitol on January 6, which would have prevented him from certifying the presidential vote. Pence refused to go.

So cool, and so exciting! Pence's agents "wanted to whisk [him] away from the violence at the Capitol on January 6." This "would have prevented him from certifying the presidential vote."

So cool! Of course, this would have "prevented him from certifying the vote" only until he was whisked back to the Capitol after the riot was over.  Surely, we all can grasp this blindingly obvious fact.

Everything is always possible, but no serious person has ever cited any evidence suggesting that Pence's agents were in on the plot. That said, so what?

At times like these, the gods of Insinuation flood the earth with thrilling tribal dreams. These dreams are conveyed to a waiting world by people like Litman, Lemire and Hart.  At present, a certain suggestion is taking shape as these dreams come forth.

It's hard to believe that we rational animals actually function this way. It's hard to believe that we function this way, but legions of disconsolate major experts all insist that we do!

Fuller disclosure: Remember, it's all anthropology now. According to experts, any hope of a sensible outcome vanished long ago. The goddess Athena's dream at the end of the The Odyssey has turned to dust once more!

Y'know, dear Bob, it hardly ever happens that a hate-mongering totalitarian tribe (such as your liberal tribe) will run one show-trial and stop.

According to our observations (alas, we don't have any anthropologists living in caves inside our head. We have to observe ourselves), one show-trial inevitably leads to the next one.

So, you should expect more of the same. For a while.

Hopefully, the November elections this year will put an end to it. If November does come this year, of course. Which is, unfortunately, far from certain. Oh well...

  2. I don't see such an insinuation. This was Pence's lawyer, Greg Jacob, who was with Pence at the time, testified to. No one during the testimony had suggested that secret service was doing anything untowardly. Pence refused and that was that. If there's any insinuation here, it's that Pence acted heroically.

  3. To expand upon what Ilya says above, Hart is recounting almost precisely what Greg Jacob, Pence’s attorney who was with Pence on Jan 6, testified to the Jan 6 commission. Here is the relevant section of the transcript:

“the Vice President had said something to the effect of, Tim, I know you, I trust you, but you're not the one behind the wheel. And the Vice President did not want to take any chance that the world would see the Vice President of the United States fleeing the United States Capitol. He was determined that we would complete the work that we had set out to do that day, that it was his constitutional duty to see through.”

Hart does not insinuate that pence’s secret service detail were trying to prevent him from certifying the election. They were trying to get him to safety, and Pence refused, supposedly. And it is highly unlike Lemire insinuated any conspiracy either, because he’s careful in what he says.

    1. Absolutely! There's nothing to see here. However, if Pence had left, who knows how things would have panned out. Certainly, by staying inside the Capitol, Pence was able to resume as soon as the building was secure.

  4. Meanwhile, the right is insinuating their conspiracy. They hint that Epps, who encouraged the mob to go into the Capital, was actually working on behalf of some federal government agency. There's no evidence to back this up. However, the right asserts that Epps received unusually good treatment from authorities and from the New York Times. The right hints that there must be something hidden in the story.

  5. Oh course, Pence could have testified under oath and let us know exactly what he was thinking. I’m an amoral and cowardly non action, he has refused to do so.
    Yet unsurprisingly Bob feels any
    speculation is unexceptional. To be
    fair, exculpatory speculation in Trump’s
    favor is probably acceptable
    to Bob.

    2. Whoa, indeed, now when you mentioned it. They do sound unnaturally sexed-up by that mostly peaceful ™ protest, don't they? Tsk. Perverts.

    3. This reminds me of the time Right-wing snowflakes threw a childish temper tantrum just because black people's votes counted in the 2020 Presidential election.

    4. Is it true that nobody cares that Right-wing snowflakes threw a childish temper tantrum just because black people's votes counted in the 2020 Presidential election?
I'd like to see the polling on that basic question.
      Can you provide a link?

Don't give the racist crybabies the satisfaction.

It's like the Space Shuttle explosion in 1986.

    7. 5:45,
Thank you so much for reminding me that Right-wing snowflakes threw a childish temper tantrum just because black people's votes counted in the 2020 Presidential election.
      I really appreciate it.

    8. "...January 6 which nobody cares about."

Agreed. Who gives a fuck what any Right-winger cares about anything, even if it is losing Presidential elections in landslides.

    9. Who is losing elections? Democrats won in 2020, even taking two unexpected senate seats in GA. The backlash over Roe v Wade and the 1/6 hearings is making midterm races much closer than expected. This idea that Democrats are losing anything is another bit of conservative disinformation being spread via this blog because Somerby won't moderate his comment section.

I had been speculating that Somerby was being paid to discuss conservative talking points, but I think he is mainly being paid to provide a place to present comments, so that these conservative trolls can come along and do Republican/Russian dirtywork. That's why it hardly seems like Somerby is trying to write anything coherent and so much of his text is recycled nonsense. It doesn't matter what he says as long as conservatives can get their message out via these drive-by commenters, telling us that Hispanics don't like Dems etc.

    10. The only reason you'd like comments opposing your view silenced is that you know they're true. We will know how hispanics vote when they vote. We know how they're polling but you don't want us to know because your world view relies on creating mass delusion by smothering the truth. Nothing new for commies.

    11. Relax.
I’ll never be silenced about Right-wing snowflakes throwing a childish temper tantrum just because black people’s votes counted in the 2020 Presidential election, any more than I’ll let myself be silenced about how the Republican voters care about nothing but bigotry and white supremacy.
I hope that helps you sleep better.

    12. Disinformation is a scourge that does need to be eliminated. There is nothing good about lying to people. It harms the democratic process and is unpatriotic. The 1st Ammendment doesn't protect it. That's why Trump is going down for fraud, among other crimes.

    4. "California has just become the first state in the nation to assure that young people in foster care have access to gender-affirming health care.

Gov. Jerry Brown today signed into law Assembly Bill 2119, authored by Assemblymember Todd Gloria. It guarantees that both minors and nonminors in foster care can receive “medically necessary health care that respects the gender identity of the patient, as experienced and defined by the patient,” including but not limited to puberty blockers, surgery, and appropriate mental health services, according to the bill’s text."

Democrats are preying on children with no parents for now because they have no one to defend them from deranged lunatics castrating them. They're working hard on the ability to legally destroy non foster children against the wishes of their parents.

Who do you think you’re kidding.
Even without the latter, a sheep like you who buys Christopher Rufo’s bullshit nonsense, would choose the former every single time.

    6. LOL.
As if given the choice between tolerating white supremacy and winning the Powerball jackpot, 10:30 wouldn’t gladly choose the former.

    7. Let's stipulate I'm a white supremacist. Assuming there are voters who aren't, Hispanics among them, they are going to choose tolerating white supremacy over Democrats castrating their children.

    10. The Democrat agenda isn't limited to castrating and spaying children. It also includes snuffing out their lives by the millions before they're born. That about sums it up.

    11. Whereas the Republicans killed hundreds of thousands unnecessarily by ignoring covid, mostly elderly people. That about sums that up. But if you want to talk millions, let's look at all the other social issues, including that school shooting in Uvalde, which is directly attributable to Republicans.

The words "castrating" and "spaying" are not in the Democratic Platform, nor anything close to them. This is more Republican disinformation.
