TUESDAY: "Violent" and "crazy," Watters says!

TUESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2026

Things you hear at Fox: What sorts of things do citizens in Red America hear when they visit the Fox News Channel?

Below, we'll show you the latest from Jesse Watters. First, though, consider a news report from Fox News Digital, the online reporting site of Fox News.

In effect, we're now visiting the site of "The Fox News Times." Headline included, here's the start of the report in question:

DHS probes whether agents killed VA nurse following accidental discharge during Minneapolis ICE raid

The Department of Homeland Security is investigating whether U.S. Border Patrol agents thought they were being fired upon when one fatally shot Alex Pretti on a Minneapolis street over the weekend.

The New York Post reported that an accidental discharge of Pretti's Sig Sauer P320 pistol, which was being held by an agent after it was taken away from him, may have made authorities believe their lives were in danger.

Pretti, a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ICU nurse, who was legally permitted to carry the weapon, was fired upon around 10 times and died at the scene.

Officials initially said Pretti was brandishing the weapon as federal officers were conducting immigration enforcement operations.

"It was 100% an accidental discharge by the agent that relieved that person of their weapon. Because everyone’s guns were out, they think that there’s a shooting," one source told the Post.

And so on from there.

For what it's worth, that report, which is sourced to the New York Post, may be fundamentally accurate. It may well be true! It may be true that the DHS really is "investigating" this highly implausible possible "explanation."

(To peruse the New York Post report, you can just click here.)

For the record, that would be an extremely MAGA-friendly "explanation." According to this alleged possibility, Pretti's gun discharged by accident, making the agents assailing Pretti believe they were being fired on.

Offhand, this alleged explanation doesn't exactly seem to jibe with anything heard on the (many) videotapes of this fatal group-mugging event. But it's perfectly normal to see such material being floated by the New York Post and then by Fox News Digital, and it's easy to imagine the current DHS seeking a way to move forward with some such helpful claim.

Meanwhile, also this:

In yesterday morning's report, we recorded the latest error by Jesse Watters, as delivered on last Friday's edition of The Five. One day later, Pretti was fatally shot as he seemed to be wholly disabled.

As reported by Mediaite, Watters was now saying this on yesterday's edition of that high-profile show:

Jesse Watters Baselessly Claims Alex Pretti ‘Violently’ Obstructed Agents

Fox News host Jesse Watters claimed Monday without evidence that Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti “violently” obstructed federal agents before he was shot and killed.

On Monday’s edition of The Five, Watters began, “The guy who brings a loaded firearm, concealed, into a dangerous fugitive operation is crazy. You do not bring a loaded gun and start violently and physically resisting and obstructing a manhunt, okay?”

As of 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon, President Trump was walking back from the remarkable claims various high-end staffers had made about Pretti's motives and behavior during that fatal event.

By way of contrast, Watters was still saying that Pretti had "violently and physically resist[ed] someone or something" that day, and had "obstructing a manhunt" before he was fatally shot.

Also, Pretti was "crazy" to have been carrying his firearm on that particular day.

There was more to Watters' oration yesterday. We'd say he was behind the curve in his presentation of this agitprop--behind the curve in what was, even for him, a highly unusual way.

(To our eye, Watters is cast as the Fox "silly boy." But he's usually "better" than this.)

We'd love to see the New York Times report what happens on major Fox News Channel programs. So far, everyone at the Times, major columnists included, has let the cup pass from his or her lips regarding that type of service.

The wider world needs to know what's said and done on Fox. To date, the Times has been ducking this badly needed type of service, along with every major org over here in our own Blue realm.

Sometimes, valid complaints are voiced on Fox. (It even happened in that first segment yesterday!) That should be reported too. We Blues need to hear about the (many) ways we ourselves have been badly wrong.

  1. Any obstruction is violent and dangerous as we found out. It leads to arrest which leads to resisting which leads to shooting when foolish resisters cause our officers to experience a threat of being injured or killed at which point they can use lethal force. Nothing about events leading up to the shooting matters in this case except the moment of the shooting.

    BalasPadam
    Balasan
    1. The term obstruction must be defined somewhere. There is no way to construe anything Pretti did as obstruction of ICE activities. He was no threat to the officers because his gun was holstered the entire time they were wrestling him to the ground, right up until an ICE agent is seen pulling Pretti's gun out of its holster (at the small of his back). Pretti's arms were restrained so he could not and did not reach for it. Watch the video.

    2. So you agree DC police machine guns should have rained down on the 1/6 rioters. Finally something everyone can get together on.

They don't need this explanation. They heard GUN at the same time he stood up and at the same time the gun had been removed and they did what they are trained to do. Step back and shoot until the subject is neutralized.

    1. He didn't stand up. Look at the video. He is on his knees. No one is saying anyone called out "gun". It isn't on the video.

      Padam
    2. Yes ICE called "gun" per protocol. But the asshole failed to holler "gun secured" prior to the deep state murdering him.

"Video has value because it reveals the truth to people on the left and in the center who want to know what really happened. But Republican voters don't want to know what really happened. They want to be told that they're right. They want people they regard as authorities to tell them what they see in these videos (or what they would see if they watched them). Lies keep them loyal, so the lying will continue and the base will remain onboard."

      Padam
    3. Asshole = deep state agent who grabbed the gun and ran away with it while his partners murder Pretti

      Padam

    4. What really happened was that an armed retard was messing with on-duty cops, and, entirely unsurprisingly, he got himself shot and killed.

      Padam
    5. Unhunh. Got it man. Thanks, you changed my mind. I did not see Trump's deep state recklessly murder American citizens on multiple video recordings. Da.

      Padam
    6. I wonder how many lives Pretti saved in his job as an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nurse? I wonder how that compares to the lives disrupted by ICE agents, who live to bully others under the guise of government work.

Pretti wasn't an armed retard. It takes brains to become a nurse. He wasn't messing with cops (ICE agents are neither cops nor law enforcement officers and these were CBP officers with limited authority on city streets). But Pretti was trying to help people, specifically women who were being hassled by ICE. He was videoing them and blowing a whistle and protesting. None of that was "interfering," "obstructing," or illegal, as courts have recently held.

You trolls need to stop spreading lies here, smearing a dead guy who did more good in his life than those agents (no matter how big and tough they consider themselves). Pretti was serving his community when he died. Calling him a retard is just a tactic for annoying the left, but why would the right consider it worth money to come here and bother people like this?

Is this kind of trolling perhaps what those ICE agents were actually doing on the street? They were looking for someone who had been previously detained and appeared in court, perhaps on a seriously out-of-date warrant and perhaps on a pretext. Their goal seems to be to upset citizens in MN in retaliation for being Democrats, much as trolls are here to make themselves unpleasant and bug the left. But Russia pays for that! Why? What interest on the right is being served by hurting those who care about Pretti and his death?

When Trump fell asleep at Jimmy Carter's funeral, I assumed he couldn't help it, being an old man. But now I think he did it on purpose, because the right thinks that no slight is too small to use against the left. To them, politics appear to be deeply personal, their chance at revenge against people who they think have wronged them. The reality is that we are all being hurt by this govt, for no good reason. Because the Republicans at the top are monsters who thrive on cruelty, even random, indiscriminate acts against innocent people. What counts to them is their feelings of power when they tear the wings off flies.

      Padam
    7. The felon falls asleep everywhere he goes because he is an ailing demented old man who paints his face orange to look alive.

  3. A Sig Sauer has no safety. If it had a round in the chamber, it could be accidentally fired. Rational people do not carry the gun with a round in the chamber.

Accidentally firing a weapon means your finger must be on the trigger and pull it completely to fire. No trained officer would do that. You do not put your finger on the trigger of a gun when you are disarming someone. It would make it too easy to shoot yourself.

So, this explanation is far-fetched. It does not exonerate ICE because they would have to be idiots for this to have happened this way.

    BalasPadam
    Balasan
    1. They are idiots. Almost a prerequisite for a job with ICE.

  4. Puh-leeze, Bob. Some retarded guy messed with the cops, federal cops!, and got shot. Shot dead. End of story.

It's a dog-bites-man story; happens every day or so. It doesn't deserve to be mentioned twice. Or even at all. The guy is dead, and he will stay dead. Moral: don't mess with the cops. End of story.

  5. Just a week before his fatal fight with Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis, Alex Pretti had ANOTHER tussle with federal agents causing him to break a rib

    BalasPadam
    Balasan
    1. 3:25 it is so obvious you have the hots for Pretti.

Pretti's dead, so the best you can do is jack off your tiny penis to the video of him being shot, being wrestled to the ground by several other men. Omg it is so hot for you, its like they did it on purpose to titillate you.

And we know you were already jerking off to that even before your infatuation developed.

You got it bad bad bad so hot for that VA ICU nurse.

      Padam
    2. Perhaps, it was a premeditated murder on ICE's part. Makes them eligible for death penalty.

      Padam
    3. There is now video showing he did not impede ICE operations. The ICE agents crossed the street to harrass the protestors and Pretti was helping a female protester when the ICE agents targeted him, coming over to attack him, shoving him into the street and then to the ground.

      Padam
    4. So, ICE agents were committing a felony when they attacked a woman; therefore, they can be charged with felony murder. Again, eligible for death penalty.

      Padam
  6. " fatal group-mugging event"

This is how Somerby describes what happened. I find this a biased description that tends to minimize what happened in what was a cold-blooded shooting in which nearly a dozen shots were fired at an unarmed man who had done nothing to deserve being mugged, much less killed.

A group-mugging event could be a robbery gone wrong. It could be a group of boys who jump another boy in an alley, stealing his cap and running away. The term implies rough and tumble wrestling with mild intent to harm anyone, swarming an opponent. It has nothing to do with being shot the way Pretti was. A fatal group mugging implies the guy on the bottom of the pile couldn't breathe. It doesn't imply that a bunch of guys with guns unloaded on the guy on the ground, shooting him in the back, which is what happened.

I find it offensive when Somerby "puts his thumb on the scales" abusing language to create a misleading picture of events. His crime is worse because he is the self-appointed arbiter of what is good journalism in the media. Here he displays his bias against Pretti and in defense of ICE agents who brutally murdered him while he was exercising his constitutional rights in our "free" country.

This is the kind of thing that pushes me too far and makes me think that Somerby is an asshole, a dishonest person pretending to ensure accuracy while being biased himself.

    BalasPadam

    1. Agree, today's post is about muddying the waters, same as always.

    3. If you are not a native English speaker, you may miss nuances of our language. If you are a native speaker and still don't get it, there is something wrong with your language processing. I explained very clearly what was wrong with Somerby's word choices. I can't do more than that. Others get it, so this is on you.

  7. CNN reports:

"Alex Pretti was known to the feds and suffered a broken rib in a violent confrontation with agents a week before Border Patrol officers killed him in Minneapolis, according to a report.

Pretti, an ICU nurse, told a pal he saw ICE agents chasing what he described as a family on foot, and stopped his car during the earlier incident around a week before he was shot last Saturday, CNN reported.

He said he pulled over in his car and began shouting and blowing on a whistle, at which point he was tackled by five agents, the source said.

Alex Pretti was known to the feds and allegedly suffered a broken rib in a violent confrontation with agents a week before his death in Minneapolis, sources have said.
    @dangjessie/UGC/AFP via Getty Images
Pretti claimed that one of the agents had left him with a broken rib after leaning on his back, the friend told CNN.

“That day, he thought he was going to die,” the source said, adding that Pretti had been released by agents at the scene."

This makes it seem like ICE targeted him and assassinated him on purpose. It also makes it clear that the practice of swarming someone with 5+ agents on the street is a standard tactic against protesters. Did he deserve to have a rib broken through excessive force on that occasion? I don't think so.

    BalasPadam
  8. Having been in a prior encounter with ICE while protesting doesn't make someone violent or crazy, but look at the defamatory language being applied to Pretti by Watters.

    BalasPadam
    Balasan
    1. Yes, it does make one violent and crazy.

One encounter could be accidental, but two in one week, that's not an accident. The retard was a violent nutcase.

      Padam
    2. No one said the ICE encounter was accidental. ICE is claiming the shooting was accidental. But Pretti was clearly on their radar, which makes that excuse seem like another lie.

There is now video from the 7 minutes leading up to the shooting, which shows that Pretti was neither violent nor crazy. He was helping other people who were being attacked by ICE (not detainees but observers across the street from the ICE operation).

I am sick of these lies. You refute one and another pops up. That makes Somerby's suggestion that Fox misinformation must be refuted seem lame. I think Somerby needs to find a way to discourage these right wing trolls who are just making shit up.

      Padam
    4. And that makes it OK how?

      Padam
  10. There is now video from 7 minutes before the shooting, showing the context of what happened. It is not a riot and no one was interfering with the agents. From Rawstory:

""Let's start first with the general street scene here and let this play out. What had happened, according to witnesses, is that a group of ICE agents had been in pursuit of somebody who they say was an undocumented immigrant, who they say was dangerous. He ran into a building there where the door was locked by people inside, and they couldn't get inside.

"Pretti and the other protesters, according to what we heard, were across the street shooting video. They were at some distance here watching it, and they were seeing this evolve on the other side of the street."

Foreman directed viewers to look at an image of an officer holding a pepper spray canister, and pointed out that witnesses said a small group of observers were standing across the street.

"According to witnesses, only about 10 people across the street from them, not pushing up on them, not necessarily crowding them," he said. "You hear the whistles in the background. It's a warning sign that many protesters have out there to say ICE is in the area. Now, what happens when you follow the next piece of the video here is that the agents, according to witnesses, and when you watch the video, they crossed the street to engage with Pretti and the other people over there, so Pretti is there.

"The agents come across and engage with them, and that's when you see this moment where one of the agents pushes Pretti off the road and you hear Pretti yelling, 'Don't push me,' and he says, 'I'm not in traffic, you're in traffic. You came in traffic to come over and push me.'"

The video contradicts administration claims that Pretti and others gathered in the area and were interfering with immigration enforcement, Foreman said.

"So again, the notion of this being a riot, which we've heard many times," Foreman said. "They may not like it, but this is hardly the definition of a riot. Then another person gets knocked to the ground and pinned down. If you look at that video, Pretti yells out in this video, 'Hey, leave her alone,' but he doesn't grab an officer. He doesn't approach officers. He just says leave her alone while they're pinning this person down. So again, all the indications here in this video, which is again, six or seven minutes before the shooting, shows all of the aggression coming from the officers aimed at these people."

"Then finally we move to the moment where they grabbed Pretti as he's trying to help a person who has also been pushed down," Foreman continued. "When you see that video, the agents storm in, look, they're shoving people. This woman goes to the ground, Pretti goes to help her. Remember he's a nurse, he's trying to help this woman who's down on the ground and the agents grab him while his back is turned and drag him into the center of people, where they're all gathered around here.

"You can see one of them starts striking him in the head with some sort of device, or you see him smacking somebody in the head here, and then finally you reach the point where the gunfire breaks out."

"So was it a riot?" the correspondent added. "It certainly doesn't look like one, unless you're talking about a riot of the officers themselves. Was Pretti, did he have a weapon out that he was showing anybody? No, there's no evidence of that in any of the video. Was he grabbing or attacking the officers? No, there's no evidence of any of that. As I said, the more video we get, the worse and worse and worse it looks for the White House account of what went on."

At this point, no one has benefitted from Pretti's death. We on the left do not push our own protesters into the line of fire in order to make martyrs. 17. Adam Serwer and Steve M. (No More Mister Nice Blog) have been trying to understand the MAGA/Trump mindset. Serwer says:

"The Trump administration and its goons don't think they're morally depraved, and don't see any virtue in the protests. The vast majority of them think that the protesters are paid, and that the goal of the protests is to destroy America.

Steve M. says: "No one in Trump World is rethinking the morality of what's taken place in Minnesota. The reshuffle is purely about optics. The Trumpers in Washington and on the ground in Minnesota and elsewhere still hate us, and still think we're evil. Maybe some of them now believe that a greater percentage of Americans than they realized are depraved lefties. But they still believe that all good people are on their side, or at least would be if the biased and treasonous liberal media weren't out-messaging the administration. They have no self-doubt, even now."

Somerby spent a lot of time trying to convince the left to understand the right's viewpoint. We also see these views reflected in troll attitudes and one-liners, but this right wing view is so wrong that it is hard to know where to begin addressing it. Somerby's oft-repeated doom and gloom attitude toward humanity is more consistent with right wing attitudes than the left as I know it (having grown up on the left). We marched for the farmworkers in Los Angeles, when I was young. Ruben Salazar was killed by a police bullet while sitting on a barstool in East Los Angeles. I don't know how the right can have misjudged the left and even mainstream centrists so badly. Kristi Noem is not who we are. Neither is Trump or Vance or Bongino or Hegseth. These leaders are appalling. Of course we will resist.

Somerby's lack of outrage is a tell revealing his actual political views. He dislikes liberals, which makes him part of red America, not blue.

    BalasPadam

    1. Both the Democrats and the Trump-hating media have elevated Pretti to a martyr without providing a modicum of truth about his background or his involvement with ICE prior to his death.

    4. Are these examples of the better facts that Somerby claims are found on Fox News? It is a cesspool of lies over there. That they have spread to this blog should concerrn Somerby, but I doubt he cares. He likes the fake facts on Fox better than the truth to be found even in mainstream media, but even more on Independent media.

I think Somerby has lost all credibility with this latest attempt to support right wing coverup attempts over this killing. This should be a moment of truth for those who find Somerby plausible, not just for those newly disillusioned about how the right functions.

Telling us to watch Fox is akin to saying Cecelia ever has anything truthful or informative to say.

      Padam
  18. Here are some of the consequences of Trump's recent fiascos, as described by Steve M. He also explains the turnaround by the press:

"I suspect that the one-two punch of Trump's Greenland misadventure and his jackbooted thuggery in Minneapolis have unsettled the billionaire class. On Greenland, they watched as Trump took a wrecking ball to NATO and nearly motivated Europe to unleash a set of trade measures that could have frozen American firms out of the European market. Now plutocrats are reading poll after poll showing that Trump has alienated middle-of-the-road voters on immigration. They probably have nightmare visions of a Mamdani-esque Congress in 2027 (if only), and they want Trump to back down.

Something has made Chuck Schumer and other non-Fetterman Democrats in the Senate feel it's okay to block funding for the Department of Homeland Security, even if it means a partial government shutdown. Something has inspired even some middle-of-the-road Democrats to call for Kristi Noem's impeachment. (The number of Democrats in the House who are sponsoring a Noem impeachment resolution is now 120.) Something has made a few of the usually supine congressional Republicans feel they need to call for an independent investigation of the Pretti shooting.

I think the donor class is worried -- worried that Republicans in competitive districts and states will lose to Democrats, worried that meek centrist Democrats will lose to progressives. I think America's Establishment no longer feels it can insulate itself from Trumpian chaos, and that's the main reason Trump is losing the mainstream press, as well as moderate and semi-moderate officeholders, right now."

"The false allegations claimed he was fired from "Lakeshore Medical Center" for inappropriate behavior, but Pretti never worked there."

The right apparently makes up these fake claims and then launches them via its paid trolls and bots. Not only did ICE shoot Pretti, but now they are smearing him in whatever way they think will decrease public support for him and outrage about his killing.

These troll activities increase the sense of outrage I feel about everything the right does.

    3. He was an agitator who attacked agents just a week ago.

What kind of nurse spends his free time endangering law enforcement, protesters, and illegal immigrants?

We need a full review of medical professional ethics. Their ranks are filled with sociopathic terrorists.

  20. Trump gave a speech today where he talked about needing a Ph.D. or getting MIT to start your car, because of the emissions controls and other additions. I doubt Trump has ever driven a car. He says they only save half a cup of gas, thus confusing the purpose of emissions controls and better mileage. I would feel sorry for him if he weren't such an awful man.

    1. A true marvel of science and engineering, quadrupling mileage and minimizing emissions. Or so my uncle at MIT told me.

    2. Also too, in this below 0° degree weather in the 70's the fucking cars were impossible to start. Now you warm them up with remote start. What an asshole demented dumby.

  22. It appears MSNBC gave Alex Pretti a tan, a stronger jawline, better teeth, shorter forehead, and a nose job to make him less hated for the AWFLs. They broadened his shoulders, thickened his neck, and gave him biceps.
