LONG ENDURE: We thought we were watching a "cable news" show!

MONDAY, MARCH 24, 2025

Can we long endure? We'll admit it! Yesterday morning, we were surprised by something we saw.

It was 6:49 a.m.—still early on a Sunday morning. We thought we were watching a "cable news" program—but to our surprise, one of the multimillionaire "journalists" in question was now saying this:

All right. Well, with help from the Hallow app, we're going to continue our Sunday prayer series with a prayer from the Hallow app.

If you'd like to join me, you can just bow your head, and we'll start:

"Lord, thank you for the gift of life. You are a faithful father. You never abandon us in our time of need..."

The prayer continued from there. As you can see by clicking this link, the text of the prayer appeared on the screen, underneath this heading:

PRAY EVERY DAY THIS LENT
               on Hallow

At 6:50, the prayer cut straight to a commercial for the Hallow app. Before the commercial ran, a moderator's voice said this:

Fox & Friends Prayer Series is brought to you by Hallow, the number 1 prayer app in the world.

For various reasons, we were surprised by what we saw. First, though, let's say this:

Stating the obvious, there's nothing unusual about prayer on a Sunday morning. It's a very common practice in this country—and there's nothing "wrong" with the practice.

Millions of people—they're our neighbors and friends; they're our fellow citizens—engage in this highly familiar practice. Stating the obvious, there's nothing "wrong" with doing so—but yesterday, we had thought we were watching a TV "cable news" program.

There is something a bit unusual bout reading prayers in that setting. Different people will have different ideas about whether it's a good idea.

For the record, the person who was reading the prayer was Rachel Campos-Duffy. She's longest running of the current co-hosts of the Fox & Friends Weekend program.

We'd describe Cam[pos-Duffy as someone who is extremely genial among her own but is often less charitable—perhaps even a bit less "Christian"—in her behavior toward others. Yesterday morning, we were a bit surprised to see her piety put on display because of what we'd already seen her do in the first hour of the Fox News Channel program.

In our view, Campos-Duffy qualifies as major morning-show on-air "talent." She's highly telegenic, but she's also spectacularly genial—though only perhaps toward her own.

Toward others, maybe not! For example, consider this:

Yesterday morning, at 6:11 a.m., Campos-Duffy had been the first person on the Fox & Friends Weekend crew to refer to Minnesota governor Tim Walz as—what else?—"Tampon Tim."

That's the gentleman's standard moniker on the Fox News Channel. Referring to Walz as "Tampon Tim" is standard, brain-dead, ugly fare from Fox News Channel superstars like Greg Gutfeld and Jesse Watters.

Yesterday morning, the name-calling also came from this pious Christian. And sure enough:

After Campos-Duffy introduced the segment about "Tampon Tim," acting co-host Lisa Boothe was soon sounding off. Here's the background to what happened:

A few days earlier, Walz had made a flippant remark about rooting for Tesla's stock price to plummet. In part, the flippant remark had perhaps been unwise because the Minnesota state pension fund apparently owns something approaching two million shares of Tesla stock.

On Saturday afternoon, Walz had already semi-apologized for the flippant remark—but so what? Yesterday, he was still being savaged for the remark all over the Fox propaganda realm, with his walk-back largely going unmentioned.

Possibly rendering unto Caesar, the remarkably pious Campos-Duffy mocked him as "Tampon Tim" at 6:11 a.m. This kicked off a typically flyweight pseudo-discussion in which the trio of friends went thoroughly "gossip girls." Just that quickly, the reinvented, toughened-up Boothe was saying such things as this:

CAMPOS-DUFFY (3/23/25): Did you see him decorating his Christmas tree with his wife?

BOOTHE: No. I need to see it, though. What happened?

CAMPOS-DUFFY: It must be seen, right, Charlie?

HURT: It's painful.

BOOTHE: These people—it's like a 50/50. Is he too dumb to know that he's talking about, you know, the destruction of his own state and his own people? Or does he know and he's just that evil that he doesn't care?

I don't know! 50/50.

According to Boothe, Tampon Tim may really be "just that evil." It's basically a 50/50. Boothe said she doesn't quite know.

That was Boothe, at 6:13 in the morning. Three minutes later, as part of a different pseudo-discussion, the toughened Boothe, whitened teeth flashing, decided to go there again:

CAMPOS-DUFFY: You know what, Lisa? I've interviewed FBI agents who were whistleblowers on my podcast, and they said, "I was taken off of child pedophile cases and put on [cases involving] January 6th." I mean, just think about it!

BOOTHE: Yeah, that's evil—pure evil!

Tampon Tim might be evil. According to Boothe, it plainly was pure evil when "those people" at the FBI made the alleged re-assignments in the wake of January 6 (and we stress the word "alleged").

To her credit, Boothe didn't seek the names of the (alleged) individuals who had directed this (alleged) act of (supposed) "pure evil."  But the evil seemed to be everywhere with Boothe this day, until she piously bowed her head and engaged in prayer with her pious co-host.

By the way, why might "Tampon Tim" be evil? After Boothe's 50/50 assessment, the stunningly pious Campos-Duffy explained the way it works to the Fox News Channel's viewers:

CAMPOS-DUFFY: I think that what you're seeing here, this, this—it's not just Trump Derangement Syndrome. It's Elon Derangement Syndrome.

What it is, is— When you don't have religion in your life, and you replace it with politics, it drives you crazy. Because there's no—there's no comfort in politics, right? It's just not gonna happen that way.

And so, I think that that's what you're seeing. You're seeing a complete meltdown.

"Tampon Tim" doesn't have religion in his life. Luckily, Campos-Duffy does.

According to Campos-Duffy, that explains why Walz may be "just that evil." Won't you now join her in prayer?

So it went, this Sunday morning, on the nation's most-watched "cable news" channel. Briefly, we'll once again mention this:

There's absolutely nothing wrong with prayer on a Sunday morning. The practice is observed all over the world.

More specifically, there's nothing wrong with prayer from any known political perspective. In his first book, Stride Toward Freedom, Dr. King, then just 29 years old, described his devotion to "the love ethic of Jesus" again and again and again.

A century earlier, President Lincoln had described his view of the terrible events of the recent war, and of the centuries of terrible events which had led to that war:

The Almighty has His own purposes. "Woe unto the world because of offenses, for it must needs be that offenses come. But woe to that man by whom the offense cometh."
[...]
Fondly do we hope—fervently do we pray—that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said: "The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether."

Stating the obvious, there's nothing wrong with prayer, or more broadly with the adoption of a religious understanding. That said, there is something a bit unusual about adopting this practice on a "cable news" show—especially on a show which is so devoted to the practice of trashing and judging all "others."

Also, and just for the record, we'll mention this one last fact:

Hallow, "the world's #1 prayer app," is explicitly a Catholic app. We'll tell you more about the Fox & Friends "Sunday Prayer Series" as the week continues.

According to our notes, we thought of Lincoln two separate times as we watched yesterday's program. On each occasion, we thought of the question he asked at Gettysburg:

Can our American nation—or any nation "so conceived"—expect to "long endure?"

Along the way, alas! A certain awareness was forced upon us as we watched yesterday's show. Even as we watched Campos-Duffy and Boothe, we were forced to acknowledge this:

The sheer stupidity of this Fox News Channel program has routinely been matched, in recent years, by the sheer stupidity of those of us who inhabit Blue America.

In our view, yesterday's program was highly instructive. We flashed on Lincoln twice.

The second time, we thought of Lincoln as we watched videotape of a teenage girl who lives way up north and far away, way up in tiny Presque Isle, Maine.

Lincoln's astonishing brilliance emerged from a small, unlikely place. This very bright, admirably forthright young woman has emerged from another far place

The ugliness of the Fox News Channel has routinely been matched, in recent years, by the sheer stupidity which has emerged from our own Blue American nation.

It's never been easy for us Blues to see such facts about ourselves. All this week, we'll continue to discuss yesterday morning's Fox & Friends show, but we'll also be asking this question:

Can our nation—such as it is, without large change—expect to "long endure?"

Tomorrow: When did the "Prayer Series" start?

    1. Why is Somerby surprised by this intrusion of religion into politics? Does he not understand that Christian Nationalists are behind what Trump and Musk have been doing, at the heart of Project 2025?

That degree of religiosity is not mainstream in the US, which has always been a secular nation being careful to separate church and state (due to the bad experiences of our founding fathers in Europe). For example, the Quakers and Pilgrims and Catholics of the colonies were religious dissenters driven to a new continent by the religious persecution widespread in Europe. They were determined to avoid such troubles in the USA.

Somerby bends over backwards to say he finds nothing wrong with prayer on a political show. Good for him, but Blue America generally supports the separation between church and government. Somerby doesn't want to go there, so he pretends this is about individual religious practice, which it is not.

I find it difficult to understand why any sincerely religious person would need an app in order to pray and maintain their relationship with God. The institutionalization of religious practice represented by mandated prayers on an app is kind of scary to me because having to be told what and how to pray is antithetical to religious experience and a mainstay of authoritarian control in places where the church is part of the power structure and uses its practices to oppress people.

Begging the question. No one "needs" an app. The app offers inspiration, education, homilies, catechesis, and various prayers and meditations that Catholics often engage in alone or at Church in groups such as the rosary, chaplets or novenas. Additionally those involving recitation of prayers in a certain order that many do not have memorized and where audio guidance is helpful.

Believers in Jesus and the like are the "edgelords", when the rubber hits the road they do not actually believe in their religion's nonsense, never actually following all the bizarre rules and rituals, instead they are in a cult and shove their religion in other people's faces as a way to assert some strange sense of dominance and to attain some strange sense of emotional comfort from the disasters of their lives - which itself is a function of their religion and of the wealthy/powerful class.

When the power of the wealthy is diminished, so too is diminished the interest in religion.

  2. "Another horror story of a law abiding foreigner visiting this nation being detained in harsh conditions by ICE has emerged. Becky Burke is a UK citizen who published comics under the name R.E. Burke. She has no criminal record anywhere.

In early January she legally came to the United States on a tourist visa. She stayed with a host families, as part of a cultural exchange programs, and helped out with household chores. She also enjoyed backpacking trips in the Pacific Northwest. Before coming she researched and made sure this was regarded as a legitimate use of the tourist visa, which does not allow someone to work in the United States. She had done precisely this arrangement in prior visits to the United States without issue.

While here she attempted to go to Canada but officials in Canada told her she had the wrong visa for that country and should get another one. On February 26 she attempted to return to the United States to catch a flight back to England. While going through the usual processing she was detained by ICE. It seems that after her January arrival in America ICE changed its mind and decided that helping out with household chores of a sponsor was not permitted on a tourist visa because it was work.

Rather than simply deport her back to England, or allow her to voluntarily leave as she planned to do, ICE detained her, in harsh some would say inhumane, conditions for nearly three weeks. She was not released until her case became a major media story in England and British diplomats made pushing for her release a priority."

And what is Somerby worrying about this morning? Nothing important, that I can see. He craps on some Fox News person then calls "Blue America" just as bad (without any evidence). Meanwhile hapless tourists are being harrassed to the point that our tourist industry is way down. So are income tax revenues (about 10%) which will affect our debt.

Why is Somerby so narrowly focused on nonsense that he cannot see, much less talk about, any real problems facing our nation? It is as if he only dredges up some complaint against Fox in order to say something bad about Blue America (without having to do any research). This has been his pattern, day after day. He used to talk about real issues but hasn't done that since Trump came on the scene back in 2015.

Somerby is another symptom of something horribly wrong in our country, largely emanating from the right. This blog has become a toxic place with nothing to offer those of us who are worrying about our democracy and our own rights as citizens under our constitution. All other liberals have been sounding the alarm, except for Somerby, who has nothing to say to any of us except that we are just as bad as those calling Walz "Tampon Tim," as if tampons, Walz or name-calling were any sort of problem while our president becomes more demented every day. And no, mental illness is not dementia. Dementia is a word Somerby appears to be unable to say. Why?

Starlink is intended to provide internet in rural areas where it is too costly or difficult to run cables.

Starlink satellites are rapidly failing, falling out of orbit back to earth to the tune of about 100/month.

Now Musk wants to overhaul the FAA, replacing our current and safe air traffic system with an untested Starlink system. Starlink does not even match our air traffic needs, we are not suffering from lack of internet service. Starlink does not have a good track record, clearly Musk is desperate for more government handouts; Musk is leveraged to the hilt, he needs government handouts to cover his massive loans.

  4. The Great Commission: In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands his disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations," which implies sharing the message of Christ openly, beyond private circles. This sets a foundation for public proclamation as a core part of following Him.

Boldness in Public: In Acts 4:29-31, after Peter and John faced threats for preaching, they prayed for boldness to continue speaking God’s word. The Holy Spirit filled them, and they "spoke the word of God boldly." This shows that proclaiming Christ publicly, even under pressure, is Spirit-empowered and expected.

Not Ashamed: Paul writes in Romans 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes." This reflects a call to share Christ unapologetically in any setting, including public ones, trusting its transformative power.

Preaching Everywhere: In Mark 16:15, Jesus says, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."

Jesus warns in Matthew 10:32-33, "Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father." This ties public confession of Christ to faithfulness, suggesting it’s not optional despite risks like persecution from internet atheists.

Tesla owners are suffering from poor build quality of the vehicles they bought/leased, it is embarrassing to have parts of your vehicle fly off as you drive down the road, but it is more embarrassing for others to know you bought a vehicle from a Nazi out to destroy our country, which is why they are selling their Teslas or changing out the branding logos.

It was Boeing that stranded the astronauts, their return was actually facilitated by Biden. There is nothing extraordinary about rockets/shuttles going to and from the ISS, it's been routinely going on for years.

Recently a rocket/space company successfully landed a capsule on the moon; Space X can't even get a rocket with a payload into orbit, they recently had their 9th failure. Space X is a fraud, even more than Tesla.

SpaceX rockets, primarily the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy, have delivered a wide variety of payloads to orbit since the company’s first successful orbital launch in 2010. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the types of payloads they’ve delivered:

      1. Starlink Satellites
Details: SpaceX has been launching its Starlink satellites since 2019 to build a global internet constellation. As of September 2024, over 7,000 Starlink satellites are in low Earth orbit (LEO), with plans to deploy nearly 12,000 and potentially up to 34,400.

Purpose: These satellites provide global broadband internet access, communicating with ground transceivers.

      Notable Missions:
The first batch of 60 operational Starlink satellites was launched in May 2019.

SpaceX has launched Starlink satellites in numerous missions, often deploying 20–60 satellites per launch.

Starshield, a military variant of Starlink, has also been deployed for the U.S. government, including four national security satellites on the Transporter-3 rideshare mission in January 2022.

      2. International Space Station (ISS) Cargo
Details: SpaceX has been delivering cargo to the ISS since 2012 under NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) program using the Falcon 9 and Dragon spacecraft.

Purpose: These missions deliver supplies, scientific experiments, and equipment to the ISS and return cargo to Earth.

      Notable Missions:
The first commercial resupply mission to the ISS launched on October 8, 2012 (SpaceX CRS-1), which was a partial success due to a secondary payload being stranded in a lower orbit.

SpaceX CRS-7 in 2015 was a failure, with the rocket disintegrating in flight.

As of March 2025, SpaceX has conducted numerous successful CRS missions, contributing to its high success rate.

      3. Crewed Missions to the ISS
Details: Starting in 2020, SpaceX began transporting astronauts to the ISS under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program using the Crew Dragon spacecraft atop Falcon 9 rockets.

Purpose: To ferry astronauts to and from the ISS, marking the first commercial rocket to launch humans to orbit.

      Notable Missions:
The first crewed mission, Demo-2, launched on May 30, 2020, carrying NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to the ISS.

Subsequent missions like Crew-1, Crew-2, and beyond have continued to transport international crews to the ISS.

      4. Commercial Satellites
Details: SpaceX has launched a variety of commercial satellites for telecommunications, Earth observation, and other purposes.

      Examples:
SES Satellites: SpaceX has launched multiple satellites for SES, such as SES-8 (2013) and SES-9 (2016), for global communications.

Iridium NEXT Constellation: Between 2017 and 2019, SpaceX launched 75 Iridium NEXT satellites across eight missions to provide global satellite communications.

Globalstar: In June 2022, SpaceX launched a group of four U.S. satellites with an on-orbit spare Globalstar FM-15 satellite.

      5. Government and Military Payloads
Details: SpaceX has launched payloads for the U.S. government, including the Department of Defense and other agencies.

      Examples:
Space Development Agency (SDA): SpaceX builds and launches customized military satellites based on the Starlink bus for the SDA, primarily for missile defense and observation platforms.

GPS III Satellites: SpaceX has launched several GPS III satellites for the U.S. Space Force, such as GPS III-3 in June 2020.

NRO Missions: SpaceX has launched classified payloads for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), including NROL-76 in 2017 and NROL-108 in 2020.

      Delete
    12. 6. Rideshare Missions
Details: SpaceX’s Transporter missions are dedicated rideshare launches that carry multiple small satellites for various customers.

      Examples:
Transporter-1 (2021): Set a record by launching 143 satellites in a single mission, including CubeSats, microsatellites, and other small payloads.

Transporter-3 (2022): Included four U.S. national security satellites alongside other smallsats.

These missions often include payloads from universities, startups, and government agencies.

      7. Scientific and Research Payloads
Details: SpaceX has launched payloads for scientific research, often as secondary payloads or part of larger missions.

      Examples:
DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test): Launched in November 2021 for NASA, this mission tested planetary defense by impacting an asteroid.

TESS (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite): Launched in April 2018 for NASA to search for exoplanets.

IXPE (Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer): Launched in December 2021 for NASA to study X-ray emissions from cosmic sources.

      8. Lunar and Deep Space Missions
Details: While most SpaceX missions target LEO or geostationary transfer orbit (GTO), some payloads have been sent to lunar or deep space trajectories.

      Examples:
Intuitive Machines’ Nova-C Lander: Launched in February 2024 as part of NASA’s CLPS program, this was the first U.S. lunar landing since Apollo.

Hakuto-R Mission 1: Launched in December 2022 for ispace, a Japanese lunar exploration company, though the lander failed to achieve a soft landing.

Psyche Mission: Launched in October 2023 for NASA to study a metal-rich asteroid.

      9. Other Payloads
Details: SpaceX has also launched unique or experimental payloads.

      Examples:
Tesla Roadster: Launched on the inaugural Falcon Heavy flight in February 2018, Elon Musk’s personal Tesla Roadster was sent into a heliocentric orbit as a dummy payload.

AMOS-6: A communications satellite for Spacecom, which was destroyed in a pre-flight explosion during a static fire test in 2016.

      Summary of Payload Delivery Capacity
In 2023, SpaceX delivered approximately 1,200 tonnes (2,600,000 lb) to orbit across 96 launches.

In 2024, this increased to over 1,498 tonnes (3,303,000 lb) across 134 launches, though only 85.5% of those launches had reported masses.

      Success Rate and Failures
SpaceX’s Falcon 9 family has a 99.35% success rate across 465 launches as of March 2025, with notable failures including:
SpaceX CRS-7 (2015): In-flight failure, loss of ISS cargo.

      AMOS-6 (2016): Pre-flight destruction during a static fire test.

Starlink Group 9–3 (2024): In-flight failure, the only failure of the Falcon 9 Block 5 variant.

SpaceX CRS-1 (2012): Partial failure, with a secondary payload stranded in a lower orbit.

SpaceX’s ability to deliver diverse payloads—ranging from commercial satellites to human crews, military assets, and deep space missions—has solidified its position as a leader in the space industry, with a focus on reusability and high launch cadence
