That said, how did it happen: We're off on a mission of national import. We'll have no fish today.
That said, how did it happen? Given yesterday's IG report, which finalizes judgments about Comey's actions, how did these events occur?
1) On the liberal world's favorite cable news program, Comey's July 2016 sliming of Clinton was aggressively applauded, on two consecutive nights, by the program's guest host!World literature is full of imagery in which the protectors are asleep at, or have abandoned, their posts. (Picture Sonny Corleone, getting shot down at the tollbooth.)
2) When the corporate program's star returned from vacation the next week, she never mentioned Comey's name until late October 2016, when he struck for the record time. From early July through late October, no pushback occurred at all.
With that in mind, how did it happen? How did it happen that your interests were so completely abandoned on this wonderfully enjoyable TV show, whose mugging and clowning we so much enjoy? Not to mention its enjoyable, 18-minute stories about Herb Kalmbach, Nixon's lawyer!
For the past thirty years, we've been living in a world increasingly built on The Crazy. Donald J. Trump has become the leading example, but the culture of our own floundering pseudo-liberal world isn't real far behind.
Postscript: With establishment Washington, Comey had been anointed as the latest example of the world's most upright person. How do such errors so constantly happen? Also, does this explain why your protector had chosen to walk off her post?
Hey Bob, I saw a picture of you on the web. Nice.ReplyDelete
By the way, what happened to that "Trump War" you were predicting day in and day out just a couple of months ago?
Yeah, sure, that made a lot of sense. Hitting the vodka a little early today, Mao? Stay strong, Cheeto Chamberlin needs your loyalty, now more than ever.Delete
Re Mao's linkDelete
Every accusation is a confession.
The least surprising thing to happen in my lifetime is Conservatives waving away treason against the United States of America. I knew it was coming the moment they called me a "traitor" for criticizing GWB's Great Iraq Clusterfuck.
It's always projection with these fuckers.
Thanks for your confession, dear dembot.Delete
If you weren't a piece of turing-test-failing software, it would've been good for your soul.
Quit throwing your rattle out of the crib, Mao.Delete
Is this another projection you just confessed of?Delete

Poor abused dembot. My heart is bleeding for you.Delete
It's stupid shit like this that convinces me that Mao in Cal and David Cheng Ji are the same commenter. Remember when Obama bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia? "Conservatives" collectively lost their shit. Trump explained to us how weak that made Obama. Trump salutes an enemy tin-pot general, and David/Mao and their ilk are just fine with it. Remember when Obama negotiated a denuclearization agreement with guarantees and inspections? Worst deal ever said Mr. Art-of-the-Deal. Trump lets North Korea dictate our military preparations with South Korea and claims that all trust and no verify makes the nuclear threat go away. The Mao/Davids love it.Delete
Remember when Canada sneaked eight Americans out of Iran during the hostage crisis? I do.
I'm going to take stock of what I've got.Delete
"Trump salutes an enemy tin-pot general"Delete
You have sooo many enemies, and take sooo much pride in "military preparations". A militaristic swine - or, rather, a true Killary's liberal. Tsk. It sucks to be you, in times of peace and prosperity.
Mao in Cal/David Cheng Ji,Delete
Most of my enemies are domestic, notably ICE, the American Kripo.
I take pride in “military preparations”? What does that even mean? Like “pride” in holding the militarist parades like Trump? More evidence that every rightard accusation is an admission.
Do the scare quotes mean that the exercises are a waste of time? Possibly, but it’s easy to figure out what happens when allied armies are not prepared. Look up “Pusan Perimeter”.
I think the meeting with Kim was a good thing. Better than ratcheting up the belligerence. Too bad that Mr. Art-of-the-Deal got picked clean.
Keep on yapping’: War is Peace! Suffrage is Slavery! Ignorance is Strength!
"Do the scare quotes mean that the exercises are a waste of time?"Delete
No dear, they denote a quotation from your own drivel posted @1:37 PM.
Oh, never mind, keep on rumbling. In your unfortunate condition it might be therapeutic.
Sorry, I'm just not used to having my comments followed so closely. Finally, a fan.Delete
But, sweetie, drivel? So no substantive reply, then?
I'll smoke your tail feather son. Tonight.Delete
deadrat, I'm definitely a fan, though that may be a bad thing from your point of view. Never commented on your posts, because they’re so good – normally sticking to the post by Bob at hand any given day – that anything I added would detract. And I'm as guilty as anyone of being trolled.Delete
But I don’t understand why anyone responds to Mao. I said it when it first appeared, don’t feed this troll! Once, I did respond, and almost immediately deleted the comment. I realized that it was a mistake, and I didn’t want to add legitimacy to its posts.
DinC, I gave some leeway for a while, because of his unfailing politeness (stole that from another poster). Not anymore. It’s really a waste of time. You respond eloquently to what may seem legitimate criticism of Bob’s posts. They have none such. Screw Mao and DinC. But give then credit, I suppose, they do self-identify, which makes it easy to take a pass.
You ain't smokin' nothin' of mine until you deliver on that scorpion soup you promised.
DinC and Mao are functionally the same commenter. The former is so ploddingly stupid and the latter is so ploddingly insulting that people tend to get frustrated and explode. I don't even want to guess at mm's systolic pressure at this point.
DinC's shtick is alternative "facts", and I occasionally counter those. But a while ago, I concluded that if he wasn't a troll, then he was incapable of making moral judgments, which is why I call him a moral idiot. I think the tipping point came on the subject of torture, but I don't really remember. Whatever the cause, there's no point on having a conversation with a moral idiot.
Mao rarely goes beyond the meaningless insult, and I'm afraid I'm guilty of occasionally trying to counter-troll him. Your policy is probably he better one.
And thanks for the kind words.
You're going be in a world of hurt.Delete
‘They demand we forever stay on cusp of nuclear war’: Lee Camp slams MSM censure of Kim-Trump dealDelete
"“Despite the historic move towards peace, most of the mainstream media is trashing the deal,” Camp said in reference to this week’s talks in Singapore, on the 200th edition of the satirical talk show on RT.
“CNN, MSNBC, the Democrats have all staked out a position to the right of the Republicans, demanding that we remain on the cusp of nuclear war, forever,” he said, adding that much of the consternation seems to be over Trump’s pledge to end US drills on the Korean Peninsula."
John Bolton, Mao.Delete
No wonder El Presidente is so envious of your paymaster, Comrade.
Don't go, Bob. I need someone to tell me that if I didn't call Trump a "grifter", he wouldn't have had to use charitable funds donated for veterans to illegally fund his Presidential campaign.ReplyDelete
"On the liberal world's favorite cable news program, Comey's July 2016 sliming of Clinton was aggressively applauded, on two consecutive nights, by the program's guest host!"ReplyDelete
July 5 and 6, 2016, are the only 2 consecutive dates in July for which transcripts of Maddow's show appear. The guest host was Steve Kornacki. Here are the links:
Go ahead. Read them. Show me where Comey's "sliming of Clinton" is "aggressively applauded" by Kornacki.
(Spoiler alert: it didn't happen.)
As a bonus, here is the transcript from the Hayes show from July 5:
Go ahead and look. You will see rather aggressive condemnation, rather than applause, of Comey.
But WTF? Bob is always right...in spirit, if not with his facts, right?
Maybe that's why he uses all those exclamation points, to signal "Don't take this literally, OK!".
Give us the dates of the shows in question please Bob. Thanks.ReplyDelete
Liberals deny the achievement gaps? No one talks about achievement gaps?ReplyDelete
Maybe Somerby should check his old alma mater.
The announcement came in 2010:
"New Achievement Gap Initiative at Harvard University Study Reveals Keys to Exemplary High Schools"
They have a whole program devoted to achievement gaps:
A whole program! Wow!Delete
You're halfway there. Now give us to the links to where the media, politicians, and the educationists have picked up on AGI. For extra credit, compare what you find to the airtime given to school "choice".
You keep moving the goalposts. Just like Somerby. Somerby says liberals deny the gaps. You claim no one talks about them. I provided a counterexample,Delete
which disproves both assertions.
Here's deBlasio, again, mentioning the gaps:
You can do your own research to find discussions of achievement gaps, in newspapers, blogs, at the NEA, etc.
Try Google. Lots of hits.
Try "NEA achievement gaps". There are more than zero hits.
Is the NEA "educationist" enough for you?
Has Somerby ever told you about the agi? I guess since, apparently, no one else mentioned it, he didn't bother.
Except, oops, here it is, being mentioned:
Maybe if Somerby hadn't burned so many bridges with his mean-spiritedness over the years, his blog might have more influence in the education debate. But you're not going to make yourself a valid or reasonable voice in that debate by saying liberals are dumb, stupid, repulsive, and exude a moral squalor, and that they don't care about school children. That's ludicrous.
Somerby would rather not engage with the actual discussions, because, then, how would he keep repeating his narrative?
And I wonder who said this:
"Let's establish the basic parameters of the current drama. In this corner, we aren't opposed to charter schools. We support their continued existence, especially in service to low-income kids.
On balance, we think charter schools are part of a needed set of experiments. We aren't opposed to charter schools."
Ever so slightly whimsical -Delete
If black kids are now scoring higher than when us whites were all kids, should the gap be particularly concerning?
Maybe the white kids are scoring too high, maybe it is counterproductive to be taught laser focused on how to ace tests. Asian societies may be productive in some sense but they seem excessively repressive and negative, cold and empty. Anecdotally when I encounter blacks I find they are at least as good as whites at solving problems but have limited opportunities due to racism.
A thought experiment on public policy should not receive too much condemnation, lol.
Remember Reagan's Sec of Ed Bill Bennett said:
"I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose -- you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."
Yikes! at least he offered a qualification:
"That would be an impossible, ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down."
I don't understand the ridicule from deadrat. Few if any Republicans are concerned about achievement gaps, or education in general. Undoubtedly Democrats could be more engaged, but they're the only game in town and shaming or ridiculing seems like a counterproductive effort at motivating anything to happen. I suspect deadrat has an ulterior motive other than being helpful or adding anything positive to the discussion. Republicans obviously want to shut down public education even though it's cutting off their nose to spite their face, they hate unions and they hate non white races that much.
Lee Atwater might have really nailed it when he spoke about the southern strategy and how overt racism was no longer needed:
Atwater: You start out in 1954 by saying, "Nigger, nigger, nigger". By 1968 you can't say "nigger"—that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me—because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this", is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "Nigger, nigger"

I want to be careful not to defend TDH as ardently as you attack him. Partly because TDH is hyperbolic and partly because I have a tendency to become that internet guy who always has to have the last word. And I hate that guy.
So you send me, again, to a de Blasio video that’s about universal pre-K, not NAEP achievement gaps. Is universal pre-K the panacea for the gaps? I guess we’ll find out. The first crop of pre-K kids is entering the third grade this fall. In the meantime, your hero is playing with fire trying to jigger the entrance statistics for his “elite” high schools.
I went to nea.org. Their “current focus” menu lists five things, none of them NAEP gaps, which is the top of their other list. If I follow the “Gaps” link, it as the rubric “Improve Achievement for All Students”. I missed the May 11 symposium on closing the gaps. Perhaps you can point me to slides. Did Rachel cover the event?
Why would TDH mention AGI? Does it have any presence? You point me to a seven year old article form the Times that’s basically a puff piece on Ronald Ferguson. Didja know that “[a]t meetings, he will turn passive-aggressive to move his agenda forward”? But you’re right: TDH is wrong when he says “never”. You got him.
Do you think you have a gotcha on charter schools because TDH supports them for low-income kids? Such a media researcher as you surely knows that charter schools are mostly a favorite grift of the right.
How many bridges do you think Somerby has burned? Who reads TDH? I mean besides you, me, Mao in Cal/David Cheng Ji.

I suspect deadrat has an ulterior motive other than being helpful or adding anything positive to the discussion.
Yikes. At least you offered a qualification. Oh, wait. You didn’t.
About my attitude: as the man says, “Yeah, I've had complaints about it, but it keeps getting worse.” I ridicule people who can’t read for comprehension and who can’t think straight. Even if they’re on my side of things. I’m thinking of adding people who’ve never been out of the US but who think “Asian societies” are repressive and cold and empty. And people who don’t actually know any African-Americans but are sure about their collective problem-solving abilities and their experience with racism. Ya got a problem with any of that?
My “ulterior” motivation is that I love the sound of my own voice. As plausible as that is, you don’t really know whether it’s true, so why not simply respond to what I actually write?

Out of more than 1,500,000 emails received over 4 years, Hillary Clinton forwarded 3 top secret emails -- containing only public information -- to State Department employees unauthorized to read top secret emails.ReplyDelete
James Comey said she was "extremely careless". God knows Dowd agreed with that. Statistically, Comey's assertion of carelessness is FALSE. Krugman reported that. No one else at the NYT reporting the news, analyzing the news, or writing op eds pointed that out.
The NYT gave Hillary Clinton less than a teaspoon of salt when giving her the benefit of the doubt. But the NYT gave Trump more than a ton -- 200,000+ times as much. Now that Trump is destroying our Constitution, the NYT and Dowd have decided that it may be unwise to give the benefit of the doubt to Donald Trump. Finally.
