BREAKING: Data from the Los Angeles schools!

THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2018

Is there a need for reform:
A column in yesterday's New York Times seemed to call for "reform" in the Los Angeles public schools.

The author complained about the role played by charter schools in L.A. In his column, he said that Los Angeles (the Los Angeles Unified School District) has "abandoned integration as the chief mechanism of school reform and embraced charter schools instead."

A boxed headline said this:
Charter schools make it possible to avoid the hard work of integration
According to the puzzling column, 154,000 students attend charter schools in Los Angeles. Total enrollment in the district seems to stand at something resembling 620,000. For official figures, click here.

Based upon his remarks, the author seems to feel that "integration," whatever that is supposed to mean in this context, should stand as "the chief mechanism of school reform" in L.A. This is the kind of lofty piddle the New York Times loves to publish.

Such columns signal the moral greatness of the great folk at the New York Times. Such columns reinforce Times readers in the silly belief that we are the good, caring people.

We don't quite see it that way. In our view, yesterday's column seems to show how little attention the New York Times has ever p[aid to the realities of low-income/minority public school education. The Times is extremely good at the con. The newspaper is an uncaring mess when it comes to everything else.

Is there room for reform in L.A.? Presumably, yes there is. Much more than that, there's a crying need for reform at the New York Times, and all across our self-impressed liberal world.

Is there a need for reform in L.A.? Just for once, we thought it might be interesting to examine some basic data when this louse-ridden newspaper swells itself up and peddles swill of this type to the base. Tomorrow, we'll show you recent data from the Los Angeles public schools—scores in Grade 8 math.

We'll also revisit the demographic figures we showed you in yesterday's post. At some point, we'll ask a basic question:

Why should anyone pay any attention to anything which appears in the New York Times? Beyond that, why should anyone have an ounce of respect for our larger sad pitiful tribe?

Please excuse us for now. We want to catch the rest of this afternoon's Dateline: Corporate Chorale.

    1. Hello, I am Theresa Williams After being in relationship with Anderson for years, he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to my friend and she suggested that I should rather contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that never believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I mailed the spell caster, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made promise that anybody I know that have a relationship problem, I would be of help to such person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem. 2. Why should anyone in LA care about what the NY Times says about its schools? Since New Yorkers do not live in LA, why should they care about Los Angeles schools?

Somerby really wants to call what the NY Times writes about integration "virtue signaling" but if he did, his cover as a liberal would be blown and we'd all know he is a conservative (those that don't already).

    1. Because liberals cannot ever criticize faux liberalism. Yes.

Tribalism, virtue signaling, screaming umbrage and moral outrage. The new liberalism. Bob's totally correct.

Meanwhile, economic issues take a far backseat. It's lots more fun to bloat yourself up in moral outrage than it is to, say, defend rent control. Or, fight for it!

    2. Liberals don't use the same vocabulary to criticize themselves. When you see these terms cropping up, they are coming from the right. They are markers of trolls.

It is idiotic to claim that liberals don't care about economic issues when the Democratic party is engaged in a debate between Sanders-style socialists and mainstream liberals on precisely economic issues.

  3. My cousin studied graphic arts in college. After she graduated, she was unable to find a job because she was afraid to apply for work at Anglo companies and didn't feel comfortable around Anglos. Her family and all of her friends were Hispanic and she rarely left those circles, so she was ill-equipped to pursue the opportunities created by her education.

This is why integration is important for our schools. Parents can provide culturally broadening experiences, but it is better if the schools do.

    1. Whats an "Anglo" company?

I haven't seen one in years. I think her excuse is actually an excuse for not wanting to leave home too far or too soon. That's quite common in young Hispanic females.

Sorry, don't buy it. Just like I don't buy "Whitey" in the NYT advice column being from "East Harlem."

    2. Anglo means white, English speaking

    3. I thought everyone spoke English? Or at least tried to.

Or is that now a white thing?

    4. There has never been a time in US history when everyone spoke English or tried to. That is a white supremacist thing.

  4. Maybe Somerby could discuss the problem of charter schools vs traditional public schools, a problem Kaplan describes. We know Somerby supports charters, when "sensibly" used, whatever that means.

  5. Speaking of the Corporate Chorale, why is it only AOL News that's noted that Omarosa SOLD that tape to MSNBC?

A tape that's pretty mickey mouse btw. 180Gs ain't going to buy anyone off, especially Omarosa, and Laura Trump only said on it that, hey, if you're going to be working for the campaign we don't really want you spouting off to people.

Pretty reasonable, and hardly a bombshell.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Does it matter whether she sold it or not, if the info contained and the things said about the tapes are true? When you see film on the nightly news of some wildfire, chances are it comes from someone who sold the images to the news station. There are people who do that for a living, beyond paparazzi.

Do you begrudge Omarosa a living. She was fired by Trump's outfit. These people are lying and their lies deserve to be exposed, even if by someone who participated in lying while on staff herself.

    2. I think it explains why MSNBC is spending so much time in flacking it.

And really, is $180,000 a year really enough to buy anyone off? Trump pays porn stars millions! The whole story is bogus -- and I actually feel a bit sorry for Laura Trump.

    3. It would have been enough if Kelly hadn't fired her badly.

No one does, Bob, no one does. Most of everyone recognises your "pitiful tribe" for exactly what it is: a zombie death-cult.

  12. Thank you Thank You Very much Doctor Otonokpo for making my ex boyfriend come back to me. I am Cordelia Sandra from Brazil and i am putting this testimony here too because i want to share my testimony of how i was helped by Doctor Otonokpo within 48 hours of contacting him. Yes, it was last week my ex boyfriend returned to me after i contacted Doctor Otonokpo. My boyfriend was always going back to meet his ex girlfriend because he never really left her. Her name was Sophie. I didn't know how it happened one day after breakfast that i saw him looking at his ex girlfriend's picture on Facebook and I flared at him that he doesn't care about him and he was with me and still thinking about his ex although we have been dating for 6 months. He stormed at me and left the house and never returned. I was heartbroken and wanted him to come back. I was in a nightclub with friend one evening that I saw him with Sophie there, I was humiliated that night and I regretted going there only to see him there. I went online after some days and found Doctor Otonokpo and read about him and I contacted him to help me get him back. I must say that within 48 hours, my boyfriend came back to me and pleaded for leaving me. Is this how spell works so fast? Please, if you want help, contact Doctor Otonokpo too to help you at otonokpotemple@gmail.com
