BREAKING: Goldberg becomes latest "truth-isn't-truther!"

TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2018

Big pundits must all take a turn:
Sad! Here's the way Michelle Goldberg began this morning's column:
GOLDBERG (8/28/18): One of the unofficial slogans of the Trump era—besides “grab ’em by the you-know-what” and Rudy Giuliani’s recent “truth isn’t truth”—is “nothing matters” (sometimes preceded by a nihilistic “lol”).
Sad! The meaning of Giuliani's now-famous statement was perfectly clear at the time. On Sunday, The Washington Post's official fact-checker almost copped to this obvious fact:
KESSLER (8/26/18): Giuliani, who is a lawyer for President Trump, asserted at one point in this television appearance that “truth isn’t truth.” He later explained that he was referring to “the situation where two people make precisely contradictory statements, the classic ‘he said, she said’ puzzle.”

Okay.
But there were three other key points he made in that interview that are worth exploring.
Giuliani "later explained," Kessler said, linking to something Giuliani said the next day. In fact, Giuliani explained his statement about ten seconds later, just as soon as Meet the Press host Chuck Todd stopped chortling and interrupting.

Giuliani's explanation was perfectly clear. It came about ten seconds later, not later on the next day. That said, it's just as we've been telling you:

In accord with Hard Pundit Law, every pundit knows that he or she must make sport with this statement. Within the business, this type of statement is known as an "instant iconic."

They spent two years pretending that Gore had said he "invented the Internet." Today, they all know they must have some fun with the funny thing Rudy said.

This morning, Goldberg became the guild's most recent "truth-isn't-truther." Anthropologically speaking, this is the way the brain of the great ape works, especially on stampede.

Hey, goldberg-schmoldberg, every goebbelsian liberal hack is exactly like every other one: following the Party Line of your lib-zombie death-cult...

    1. "This November 6 election is very much a referendum on not only me, it's a referendum on your religion, it's a referendum on free speech and the First Amendment. It's a referendum on so much," Trump told the assemblage of pastors and other Christian leaders gathered in the State Dining Room, according to a recording from people in the room.

"It's not a question of like or dislike, it's a question that they will overturn everything that we've done and they will do it quickly and violently. And violently. There is violence. When you look at Antifa -- these are violent people," Trump said,

      *******

One, he incites fervor in a base through constant lying.....

Two, he scapegoats minority populations and he affixes blame for complex problems to them and them alone.

Three, he alleges conspiracies that are hidden and nefarious and linked to those scapegoated populations.

Four, he spreads a sense of victimizations among those fervent supporters.

And five, he asserts the need to exert heretofore unprecedented power to protect his victim class from the conspiracies and the scapegoated populations.

Through all of history, you understand totalitarianism, you understand how democracies fall. You will find those five behaviors.

    2. Whoa, copy-pasting at 2:59 am and then at 6:43 am again?

Truly, the dembot copy/paste job - nay, the dembot calling - has no breaks. That's one good dembot right here.

    3. Hey dembot, look: U.S. GDP Growth Unexpectedly Upwardly Revised To 4.2% In Q2.

      Pussy-grabbing-perfect!

    4. Real wages fell in Q2 despite low unemployment, Tax and Jobs Act

      East shit, Vodka breath.

4.2% was beat by Obama 7 times.

  2. "They spent two years pretending that Gore had said he "invented the Internet." Today, they all know they must have some fun with the funny thing Rudy said."

Gore never said that he invented the Internet. Giuliani did say "truth isn't truth."

Another difference: Gore was making a factual statement involving himself and the Internet. Giuliani was making a statement meant to muddy the waters and cast doubt on Mueller.

Gore was the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party. Giuliani is a clownish cartoon lawyer-spokesman for the grifter in chief.

The intent of Giuliani's "truth isn't truth" was not to explain the problem of he said/he said to the rubes. It was to justify Trump's refusal to testify. It's utterly disingenuous.

And no one is having fun with this or thinks that Giuliani is funny. Not Michelle Goldberg, not anyone. Everyone thinks Giuliani is a despicable carnival barker twisting language and thought in service of a liar and a dangerous sociopath. (Somerby's words, by the way).

  3. Bob's post illustrates the problem with self-described "fact-checkers". Using that name doesn't guarantee accuracy or lack of political bias.

    1. @david
That's a statement that merits a "Duh!" in response.

Of course, here, Somerby is saying the fact-checker got it right. So, what are you saying?

    2. Somerby criticizes that fact checker for not pointing out that Giuliani's statement was perfectly clear at the time me made it. Bob writes, "Giuliani's explanation was perfectly clear. It came about ten seconds later, not later on the next day.

    4. Whatever. Giuliani felt the need to "clarify" in a tweet the following morning, which was in the article Kessler linked to. Why the need to clarify if the original presentation was so fricking clear?

  4. Why the need to clarify if the original presentation was so fricking clear?

Maybe, because the media were choosing to ignore the clarification in his original presentation.

    1. His original presentation is disingenuous bullshit. No one says "truth isn't truth" when they mean that it's so-and-so's word against so-and-so, Comey against Trump for example. A normal lawyer, when asked "will your client tell the truth" answers "yes", not "truth isn't truth."

    2. Not only is “truth isn’t truth” not an English idiom for “people’s recollections differ,” it was sandwiched between outright lies.

Preceding his truth claim, Giuliani said that the Trumpsters didn’t know that the Trump Tower meeting would involve Russians and certainly not an official of the Russian government, but the Trumpsters own emails revealed they expected to meet someone who was like “the crown prosecutor of Russia,” an infelicitous phrase considering what happened to the Romanovs.

Following the truth claim, Giuliani once again claimed that Mueller was setting a perjury trap for his client. This is actually a charge of prosecutorial misconduct against Mueller. As I’ve explained elsewhere, just because your client can’t tell the truth doesn’t mean that a prosecutorial interview is a perjury trap.

All this occurs in the context of Kellyanne Conway’s “alternative facts”, Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ constant lying and deflection, and Trump himself going Orwellian with “what you’re seeing and reading isn’t real.” It is contemptible to drawn an equivalence between the reaction to Giuliani’s revealing slip and the campaign to make Gore out to be liar.

    3. So 'truth isn't truth" is where Somerby feels Giuliani accidentally made an argument in good faith?
Wow, Somerby isn't even trying anymore.

  6. Rudy’s idiotic caveat was part of his crudely moronic performance defending our indefensible slob President. Since I don’t have to choose between him and Michelle Goldberg I won’t, but Bob is a real dunce on this one.

  8. Hello everyone, I must start by saying that I didn’t go into marriage with expectation that it will fail after 8 years. I and my spouse where not compassionate to ourselves. Trying to work out my marriage was self-defeating, we don’t really know why we no longer find ourselves attractive anymore. All we secretly thought was divorce, we couldn’t agree or communicate anymore, it was emotionally difficult moments when we face each other in the bedroom.
I know that a phycologist might not be able to help me go through divorce because it has never worked for me. Divorcing could traumatize our kids, I can’t let them be emotionally crippled.
I remember my grandmother once told me that not issues can be resolved physically, I should try solving some issues spiritually through a well-known spiritual doctor.
I can provide evidence that my life and marriage got more better and interesting with so much love and fulfilled promises after Dr. Wakina lighted up our fire with a magnificent love spell with the aid of dr.wakinalovetemple@gmail.com.
The spell work I never regarded rewrote my story. I’m touched beyond words, thanks Dr. Wakina.
