Watters interviews latest guru!

FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 2024

First the toad-smoking expert, now this: The kind of programming being offered by the Fox News Channel is truly hard to believe.

As we noted yesterday, Jesse Watters' latest book was finally published this week. We saw "finally" because Watters has been promoting the book, day after day and night after night, for the past several months on the aforementioned "news channel."

As you may recall from yesterday's lesson, the Watters tome carries this title:

Get It Together: Troubling Tales from the Liberal Fringe

As you may recall, the remarkably unembarrassed publisher describes the project as follows:

Watters set out to interview a few dozen radical activists to find out where their wild ideas came from. When he did, he discovered that most of these figures from the liberal fringe actually need a therapist.

Their liberal causes have been generated by people who are illogical, emotional, and ill-informed. Watters uncovered some common threads among the personal stories of these liberals—childhood traumas, broken relationships, and a lack of introspection.

We know! This sounds like some sort of badly underfed parody project. In fact, the undertaking actually seems to be dumber and more pathetic than that.

As you may recall: To celebrate publication week, Watters is interviewing some of these figures from the liberal fringe on his prime time "cable news" program.

Yesterday, we linked you to Wednesday's night interview with "toad-smoking expert Hector Gonzalez." Last night, Watters' "Get It Together" segment started off like this:

WATTERS (3/21/24): It's a new edition of the Get It Together series, where some of the people I interviewed for the book come back and talk to us on Primetime.

Today, we're skipping to Chapter 16 to talk to "the decriminalizing drug guru."

Meet Doc Gunn, a drug guru who wants to legalize everything. He started getting high at 12, He doesn't believe people caught with drugs should be arrested, and he joins us now.

What's up, Doc?

What's up, Doc? Yes, that's what he said!

At this point, up popped Gunn himself, seeming to present as a badly underdeveloped performance artist of some undefined type. A short, inane interview followed, ending with a mercifully short bit of Gunn's musical artistry.

It's very, very hard to believe that Fox is presenting this sort of dreck as part of its "cable news" programming. It's hard to know what the typical Fox News viewer is supposed to think as he or she, sitting at home, watches this manifest idiocy.

(In truth, the propaganda message is clear. Liberal activists are all nutty. Please don't speak to liberals at any point in your life!)

To watch the mercifully brief segment with Gunn, you can start by clicking here. When Gunn comes on, you'll be watching "cable news" inanity at its most fully accomplished.

It's very, very hard to believe that such manifest nonsense is actually put on the air. It's also hard to believe that Fox can be producing such undisguised idiocy with no one else saying a word!

To watch Wednesday's interview with the toad-smoking expert, you can start by clicking this. Full disclosure:

Two hours later, at 10 p.m., things don't get a lot better when the Gutfeld! program comes on.

It sounds exactly like Corby, the resident troll of your comment threads here.

    2. It’s also different from Corby because Watters finds his guests nutty, but likable.

From members of Trump’s family to a senior in high school whose first pulling of the lever will be for Trump, Corby would do fifteen paragraphs on their perfidy.

That makes sense. I'm sure you know the truism that conservatives think that liberals are stupid, and liberals that conservatives are evil.

There's a reason for that: the liberal creed is, as you know, breathtakingly dumb.

    5. not nearly as dumb as thinking the 2020 was stolen and that Putin is leveling Ukrainian cities because of neo-Nazis

  2. Corby never argued in favor of drug legalization.

Total legalization has been tried in Europe with good results. Medicalizing addictions works better than punishment. But the main benefit would be undercutting the cartels and organized crime that thrives on the drug black market.

An analogy is to prohibition of alcohol, which fed organized crime (Al Capone for example). When it became legal it could be regulated. With uncontrolled quality of narcotics and especially fentanyl, people buying street drugs don't know what they are getting, which contributes to overdose deaths.

Treating this as an outlandish idea doesn't help our society deal with a serious problem.

    4. Just intended to point out that it's not an outlandish idea due to the huge support. And it's a good idea for the reasons you stipulated and many other reasons as well.

Any drug that gets really hard on people should be at safe-injection clinics that help people quit better than jail cells that only break people down to frail husks of their past selves.

There's no comparison to guns. A bag of drugs will not accidentally explode in your pocket and get someone else so high they die. These are not the same things.

Most people can handle guns reasonably well, as long as society isn't overloaded with too many of them. But cops don't like being trained on non-lethal skills and that creates fear. Business lobbies keep wages down and that creates uncertainty. Rents go up, groceries go up, mistrust goes up. You have to have stability in society to fix crime. Just changing drugs to be more or less legal isn't going to fix all crime either, there's still going to be white collar crime. It's just going to make some of that corruption happen with lobbyists getting dispensary contracts, basically the deals will still favor certain monopolies it will just be taxed.

    13. Marijuana is already on its way to being decriminalized in all states. The other drugs are the concern now. Are you for decriminalizing fentanyl and heroin Cecelia?

And talking about firearms without talking about assault weapons is not any kind of discussion either.

    14. Guns, race and to some degree even Israel are not really brought up to be talked about. They're just red meat for people.

That doesn't mean people aren't getting shot, poisoned by racist city planners sticking highways through their neighborhoods, and it doesn't mean the genocide isn't happening.

It just means those are emotional trip wires that the elite know how to use to play the American people like a fiddle.

"(In truth, the propaganda message is clear. Liberal activists are all nutty. Please don't speak to liberals at any point in your life!)"

Our Host has put his finger directly and correctly on the pertinent dynamic in play here. The point here--like the point of the awful Libs Of TikTok site--is to pick some random nut and paint them as typical of all those who aren't proper members in good standing of the current iteration of the Red Tribe.

What baffles me is why Our Host can't quite seem to come to the same conclusion when Katie Britt goes on the air to wail about the dangers of immigration and trafficking by "the cartels." The evidence is just as phony, but the intent is the same.

  13. "Trump Creates Conditions for Post-Election Eruption
March 23, 2024 at 8:51 am EDT By Taegan Goddard (Political Wire)

David Smith: “A bloodbath. The end of democracy. Riots in the streets. Bedlam in the country. Donald Trump has made apocalyptic imagery a defining feature of his presidential election campaign, warning supporters that if he does not win – and avoid criminal prosecution – America will enter its death throes.”

“The prophecies of doom, repeated ad nauseam at rallies and on social media, have raised fears that the former president is making an electoral tinderbox that could explode in November. While there has been much commentary assessing the implications of a Trump win, some experts warn that a Trump defeat could provide an equally severe stress test of American democracy.”

  14. Crazy people should not have guns. To that end, Biden has done the following:

"The vice president will announce the launch of the first-ever National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center, which will aim to help states effectively implement red-flag laws through training and technical assistance. The center will be funded through a Department of Justice grant stemming from the bipartisan gun control bill that President Biden signed into law in 2022.

Harris also will announce an official call to action for states to pass red-flag laws and to use the resources from the bipartisan gun control bill to implement them.

Red-flag laws allow a judge to take away a firearm from someone based on the suspicion that the owner could use it to harm themselves or others.

Under legislation signed by Biden in 2022, six of 21 states eligible for funding have accessed dollars through the program for states that have approved red-flag laws. Fifteen other states have red flag laws and are eligible for funding have not used money from the program so far. Twenty-nine other states have not approved red-flag laws and cannot access the money.

Biden announced in February, on the five-year anniversary of Parkland shooting, that the Department of Justice will give more than $231 million to states for crisis intervention projects, such as red-flag programs."
