Trump pictures testing at tattoo parlors!

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22, 2020

The shape of the problem we face:
In what ways should major news orgs cover Mister Trump's daily TV programs?

On Friday, well offer a list of ideas. But one thing is already clear:

The sheer stupidity of these sessions is their defining characteristic.

Consider what happened yesterday when one reporter asked about Governor Kemp's recent odd decision in Georgia. To his credit, the reporter did two things which very few others do:

After an endless monologue by Trump, he butted in to ask a follow-up question. And when he did, he said he wanted to direct his question to Dr. Birx!

The magnanimous president granted Birx permission to talk. But as he did, the cluelessness already seemed to be visible:
REPORTER (4/21/20): If I might just—pardon me. Hair salons, nail salons, tattoo parlors. Dr. Birx, can you weigh in on this? Because the people of Atlanta want to hear from you as well, as much as they want to hear from their governor and from you, Mr. President.

TRUMP: Yeah, I think—I think it’s fine.

REPORTER: What, what about—how do you success—safely have hair salons and nail salons and tattoo parlors where people apparently—

TRUMP: Where is that? Where is that?

REPORTER: This is in Georgia. —where people have to inherently be close together.
Even after granting Dr. Birx permission to speak, Trump kept interrupting. In this case, he seemed to reveal the fact that he didn't even know what state was being discussed.

At any rate, how do you safely open hair salons and tattoo parlors—places where people inherently have to be close together? The reporter had asked an obvious question.

In response, Dr. Birx said people can be very creative. After that peculiar remark, Trump chimed in with this:
TRUMP: And it also depends—as an example that you just gave—are they doing testing before they go in? We have to find that out. That’s why I’m speaking to the governor in a little while, and I’ll be asking him those questions.
Will the tattoo parlors be testing people for coronavirus before they're allowed to enter? In Trump's world, Georgia's tattoo parlor owners will perhaps have access to tests, in a country where doctors often can't test the people they'd like to test.

This kind of nonsense emerges each day from our commander-in-chief. How should big newspapers handle this fact?

On Friday, a possible answer to that obvious question will be part of our list.

Trump is asking this because where he lives, in his office, everyone is tested before they visit with him. So he assumes the same thing can be done in any business. He may even think it is already being done. He has no conception of how the rest of the world lives on a daily basis, much less how people are functioning during this crisis.

  2. It turns out that Trump was lying about Harvard University taking $9 million from the PPP. Here is the real story according to the Palmer Report:

"But one consistent rule in this era is that if you’re ever tempted to agree with Donald Trump on anything, it means something is wrong. Sure enough, it turns out Harvard did not take any money from the small business loan program. Harvard is confirming that the money it received was from a separate program that was designated specifically to help low income college students through the coronavirus crisis, and that the money will be going directly to the students in question."

Dear Bob, if you're so scared of experiencing cold-like symptoms (if any symptoms at all) in 99% of all cases, then perhaps you may want to postpone getting your tattoo for a few months.

Or, well, perhaps even indefinitely, because getting a tattoo doesn't strike me as a particularly hygienic undertaking.

Tsk. But if you, dear Bob, really-really do crave that tattoo, then, well, being (presumably) a rational humyn being, you may just go ahead and risk it.

Just like you're taking a risk every time you're getting into a motor vehicle, dear Bob.

    3. They shouldn't be getting tattoos then. Unless they really, really want it, and are willing to take the risk.

Likewise, I wouldn't recommend them to ride motorcycles, drink a pint of whiskey in one go, or smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day. Some do, however, and, amazingly, without any special permissions from government authorities.

    6. The granny, if she is afraid of getting infected, shouldn't socialize. With anyone, really, but especially with heavily tattooed people.

Dear dembot, are you trying to wear me out with your dullness? I must admit: it's working.

  4. Trump and Birx have put out a plan including standards. It's the responsibility of each Governor to decide how to implement the plan in her/his state.

Bob evidently wants the Trump Administration to oversee and second-guess each Governor's decisions. Evidently Trump and Birx do not want to take on that role. At least they have not done so as of now.

Questions about whether the Governor of GA is properly applying Dr. Birx's standards should be put to the Governor of GA. He's the right person to defend his action.

    1. Obviously, a governor will want to reopen as soon as possible, but it is also the responsibility of each governor to protect the lives and well being of their constituents. That is Trump's responsibility too -- but it is the one he is shirking.

Governors have no responsibility to implement Trump's plan. Bob wants reporters to hold Trump accountable for his actions and statements. Kemp did something stupid because of Trump's behavior. That behavior is what they are asking about.

Then he should shut his fucking pie hole and quit sending mixed messages, David, you fucking ignorant fascist prick.

Donald Trump has posted highly incendiary tweets stoking protests against physical distancing and other coronavirus stay-at-home measures in three states led by Democratic governors.

“LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” the US president wrote in capital letters on Friday. “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!”

He followed up with a third tweet: “LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!” – a reference to Virginia’s governor, Ralph Northam, last week signing into law new measures on gun control.

You seem to have trouble looking at the big picture, David.

What happened, David, you fascist prick? Evidently, Donald J Chickenshit, Acting President, saw some ugly polls, eh?

    5. I agree, David. Trump was terrible dealing with the virus, from when he found out about it the first week of January, until Tuesday, but TDS is keeping people from seeing he's turned it around and has been almost perfect on the virus since Wednesday, April 22nd.

    2. Right, dembot.

I'm curious if DOJ is going to investigate gov. Cuomo's latest atrocity. I hope they will.

New York state just issued a drastic new guideline urging emergency services workers not to bother trying to revive anyone without a pulse when they get to a scene, amid an overload of coronavirus patients.

While paramedics were previously told to spend up to 20 minutes trying to revive people found in cardiac arrest, the change is “necessary during the COVID-19 response to protect the health and safety of EMS providers by limiting their exposure, conserve resources, and ensure optimal use of equipment to save the greatest number of lives,’’ according to a state Health Department memo issued last week.

First responders were outraged over the move.

“They’re not giving people a second chance to live anymore,’’ Oren Barzilay, head of the city union whose members include uniformed EMTs and paramedics, fumed of state officials.

“Our job is to bring patients back to life. This guideline takes that away from us,” he said.

    3. Just for the record -- the Cuomo "do not resuscitate" order story also popped up in the NY Post, an unreliable source if not quite as unreliable as zerohedge.com (the latter being a eyeball-harvesting website without the least validity). Within 24 hours the Post walked back the story, allowing that the order, which they no longer attributed to Cuomo himself, had been rescinded . The Post shit-stirrers still twisted themselves into pretzels to say that Cuomo was responsible anyway, as in the "NY buck stops in Albany." But by the time Mao launched his distraction -- don't look at Trump, look at Cuomo -- the whole thing was moot. WE DEMAND BETTER TROLLING, Mao dearest darling.

  6. Down goes Kemp. The quisling tried to do Trump's bidding because sucking up to Trump is soooooo much more important than following sound health policy in a deadly pandemic. The ratings must have been terrible so Trump and co. trash him something fierce. Now all the other useful idiots are left hanging.

  10. Slightly off topic:

When I took the test for Mensa I scored at 152, and best I can tell [Trump has] got a higher IQ than I do.

Saying his IQ is anything but extraordinary would be like watching a football player repeatedly score the winning touchdowns despite the efforts of half his own team and most of the referees on the field, and then say that player’s not much of an athlete...

Here’s the thing, When an IQ differs from yours by more than 20 points, much of what the other person is doing, either direction, is unfathomable to you. It’s as if you are speaking different languages....

I see so much that candidate Trump did and that President Trump is doing that seems to be to be over the head of a lot of people viewing him. They also confuse the reports by his enemies with what he’s really done and said.

What he did and is doing while single handedly battling every media outlet (believe me, Fox News was not his friend during the campaign) the active campaigning of a sitting president (unprecedented in the history of our democracy), the non-stop criticism of the Hollywood stars and professional comedians.

Who in power was on Donald Trump’s side this election season? The Koch brothers didn’t fund him. People in his own party worked against him as late as the last month of the campaign.

    1. Hey, how's Dr. Trumpenstein's Traveling Medicine Show going? Oh look:

The official who led the federal agency involved in developing a coronavirus vaccine said on Wednesday that he was removed from his post after he pressed for rigorous vetting of hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug embraced by President Trump as a coronavirus treatment, and that the administration had put “politics and cronyism ahead of science.”

In a scorching statement, Dr. Bright, who received a Ph.D. in immunology and molecular pathogenesis from Emory University, assailed the leadership at the health department, saying he was pressured to direct money toward hydroxychloroquine, one of several “potentially dangerous drugs promoted by those with political connections” and repeatedly described by the president as a potential “game changer” in the fight against the virus.

David, weren't you telling us not too long ago that it turns out Donald J Chickenshit, Acting President, was right about his Magical Elixir potion?
