An additional note on The Big Weekend Show!

Also, Berman succumbs: We probably should have mentioned this about The Big Weekend Show.

As we suggested yesterday, the show is devoted to steady-state world-class Dumb. On Sunday evening's edition of the program, this next thing actually happened:

Uh-oh! Eleven minutes into the program, it fell to Anita Vogel to perform an unenviable task. She had to read the text of a Truth Social post by none other than Donald J. Trump.

Uh-oh! This was the start of the Truth Social post—the post she was forced to read:

The Truth Social post continued from there—but yes, that's what it said. As you can see, the former president had skillfully misspelled the name of one of the Fake News journalists. 

"Slopadopoulos?" Yes, that's what the post said!

Now it fell to Anita Vogel to read the text of the post. As you can see by clicking here, this is the way she started:

VOGEL (8/11/24): I want to read something that former president Trump said on Truth Social...

At that point, she started to read. And when she came to "Slopadopoulos," she read it exactly as it was written! She didn't bat an eye.

In fairness, it wasn't Vogel's fault that Donald J. Trump had done something so childish and so stupid. It wasn't her fault that it fell to her to read the text of his post.

We'll only say that people like Vogel have been so dumbnified by now that they're willing to read something like that without a single word of comment or even a bat of an eye. The other three cast members of The Big Weekend didn't say anything either.

At this point, memories lit the corners of our minds:

A few weeks ago, on the day President Biden dropped out of the race, it fell to the Fox News Channel's Sandra Smith to read the text of a written statement by Vice President Harris. As you may recall, that written statement referred to "the Democratic Party," but Sandra Smith balked when she came to that unacceptable word.

Democrat Party, the hireling read. She knew that's required by law.

We're talking about "normalizations" this week. It's often said, rightly or wrongly, that a great deal of that former president's childish, strange and insulting behavior has been normalized by the mainstream press.

Something else has been normalized through a process of benign neglect. The spectacular dumbness which pervades the airwaves at Fox has been normalized all the way down. So have the contents of the garbage can the channel opens at 10 p.m. each weekday night.

This conduct has been normalized through benign neglect. It doesn't matter how dumb or how ugly it gets. The dumbness and the smut roll along and no one else says a word.

Meanwhile, there was John Berman this morning on CNN:

For the record, Berman is anything but dumb. In our view, he was basically playing dumb on TV this morning.

Berman, please! He got tough with Adrienne Elrod about the failure of Candidate Harris to have a press event in these past three weeks. For the record, that's pretty much the only thing anyone has been talking about on the Fox News Channel these days.

Under the unusual circumstances which obtain, we regard that complaint as extremely dumb. We were sorry to see Berman go there.
